What. A. Fun. Read!! Twists and turns and humour, I thoroughly enjoyed this YA heist! Definitely not something I'm normally drawn to but I loved the cast of characters and how they all intertwined with one another.

This book started out on a high note and slowly went downhill. It didn't end horribly so I'm still giving 3.5 stars, but I'd hoped for more.

Maybe I should have tempered my expectations. That was probably my first mistake. But after watching movies like Ocean's Eight and what not, my heist expectations are high. So the fact that this heist wasn't stealing something quite as valuable as I expected, I was a bit disappointed.

Also, I think it's best to go into this remembering that *nearly* everyone in the crew is a teenager. There were points where Olivia would say confidential heist things out loud or do other dumb things that felt like rookie mistakes and it was frustrating. Then I'd have to remind myself that this was a heist for teenagers, not some polished Ocean's Eleven heist. Plus, I think there was room for error and improvement because it seems like they're setting this book up for a series.

I did want more revenge out of this book, but fine. I'll live.

Overall, I had a good time reading this book which I can never be mad about. I think some things were frustrating or annoying, but it was generally a fun book.

Heiress Takes All by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka is a heist novel that follows Olivia, a seventeen year old with a grudge against her father. Determined to get her revenge, she pulls together an eclectic group to steal her father’s fortune while he is distracted getting married. What could go wrong?

I liked this novel, I didn’t love it. I am a huge fan of heist stories. It’s one of my favorite tropes but I never felt connected to the characters or felt like the stakes were high enough. There is a lot of inner monologue with the main character that bogs the pace down quite a bit and some of the writing was a little too over the top for me. But I still got through the book and I know there will be a big audience for this when it releases. If I would have read this as a teenager, I would have been obsessed.

I would recommend this to anyone who really enjoyed the entire Inheritance Games series. Just go in knowing that this feels very young adult. There are some young adult books that I think can be enjoyed by older readers but this is one that I think will mostly be enjoyed by just teen readers.

As far as my personal enjoyment, this would probably a 2.5 star but I’m rounding it up to a three because I know some of that is just a me thing. This is a book I would buy for my daughter so there isn’t anything problematic. It just wasn’t great for me.

Completely fast paced (which I love). I was so excited to get approved for this arc, I’ve been anticipating this book for awhile. This is a heist novel immersed in family drama. I really liked the open ending as well.

I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.

I love a good heist novel, but this was not that. The pacing is painful, but I don't hate the characters...mostly. the over/under is that, by tomorrow, I'll forget having read this.

“Heiress Takes All” is a fun, fast-paced story of a girl seeking revenge on her wealthy father. Our main girl has assembled a crew to break into her father’s safe on his wedding day to wife #3. I enjoyed the pacing of the story and the eccentric family dynamics. Who doesn’t love a heist story?

I enjoyed the plot of this book, but I felt like the writing was a bit over done. It was hard to keep track of all of the details of the heist along with the descriptions of the locations. It felt like the authors were trying to keep things a little to mysterious to add to the heist element, but it missed the mark for me.

I really enjoyed this book! I love that they left an opening for a sequel. I loved getting to see Olivia grow and change throughout the course of the novel. This one is a winner! I’m a firm believer in the fact we need more heist novels! 😂

The author duo is one of my favorites, and I’ve enjoyed most of what they’ve read.

Loved this one--especially how the book started! A fun ride with a satisfying ending that left the doors open just enough for a book 2.

Olivia and her father have a strained relationship, to say the least; after he cheated on her mom, he kicked them out of their family home and Olivia’s life was no longer one of privilege. Now he is getting remarried – again – and Olivia is not about to celebrate. Instead, she and an eclectic group she’s assembled are going to take advantage of the chaos of the day to steal his money. What could possibly go wrong?

Throw in a lovelorn ex-boyfriend, cousins and another ex-wife seeking their revenge, and a nosy guest intent on making friends with the heisting crew, and Olivia is starting to think she is in over her head. Hijinks ensue as she tries to pull it off without losing her mind.

This is a fun book in that it reads like a decent teen movie. It is fast-paced with witty dialogue among the characters, and the villains help make it easy to root for Olivia and her team, even though they are doing something highly illegal.

Overall, the characters lack a bit of depth. For instance, Olivia’s father is almost a caricature of a selfish, philandering, and greedy villain. That being said, this is an entertaining read and, while the characters are not the most developed, they are smart and funny.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars rounded up

This book has a lot of promise: great theme, perfect cover, and awesome title. However, it needs editing and polish, in my opinion. There’s a lot of repetitive inner dialogue with the main character, and numerous sentence structures just felt clumsy and weird. Because of this, the story dragged a bit and didn’t flow nicely. It was also about 75 pages too long. I honestly didn’t love the main character and wished she was more likable. She actually got worse at the end of the story in what appears to be a set up for a sequel.

A little slow at times but a good mystery and a fun romp with lots of twists and turns that will keep teens engaged.

Thank you Little Brown Books Publishing and #Netgalley for providing me with the Heiress Takes All ARC in exchange for my honest review. I understand that this wasn't the final edit, so it's possible some of my issues were addressed before the final release. I was excited to read this book as I am a fan of "The Inheritance Games." And who doesn't love a good heist? What a great combo!

However, I had trouble getting into the story from the onset. Chapter one, (which is really a prologue) felt like a device to inject immediate drama into a story that lacked excitement in chapter two. Chapter two opens with a cliche—a girl looking in a mirror. Then we enter Olivia's current world, where she gets ready for her rich father's wedding at the employee lounge of the low-rent department store where she works. There's a whole lot of "telling" here as we watch Olivia apply mascara and foundation, etc. I wonder if there would've been a way to impart the information and backstory in scene?

Another issue I had is that we're supposed to forgive Olivia's larcenous actions because her father has wronged her mother. Mom had to work long hours now that she was poor, and ended up in a late-night car accident. This just felt too easy to me. I've seen it before. And while the Robin Hood, "stealing from the rich to help others" angle is used a lot, I'd have liked to have seen something a little more original.

The story continues with a lot of telling. We're inside Olivia's head. Very little seems to be going on around her. She's editorializing, recollecting, and observing, but the story lacks action, sensory detail, and stakes. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish the book, so it's possible things improve.

Maybe someday I'll take another crack at this book after its publication. It has a ton of potential.

tl;dr
A fast-paced heist plot stitched into a lot of complicated family drama.

Thoughts
If you like your heists with a side of ~drama~, this one's for you. We've got messy parental relationships, squabbling extended family, blackmail, and dash of a love triangle to round it all out. Olivia Owens used to live a life of luxury - full of money, and devoid of meaning. This all changes when her mother divorces her cheating father, and she's left hanging in in the void between them. Kicked out of her family home, and with a mother struggling to make end's meet, she decides to get revenge by stealing millions of dollars from her father, all in the middle of his wedding to his third wife. She cobbles together a group of skilled teens (and one out-of-luck teacher) for her crew, puts together a very serviceable plan, and gets to work. The crew members are all fun and well-written with strong personalities and reasons of their own to be in this caper. I always like the actor character, so Tom is my instant fave, but they're all great. So great that Olivia somehow winds up being the one with the least to go on. She describes herself as determined, but all flashbacks portray her as somewhat directionless, with no clear path to how she became who she is. She researches thoroughly, masterminds a plan, and then doesn't include any fallbacks or contingencies for the complications that inevitably arise. Her motivations never fully hit sympathetically relatable, or ruthlessly entertaining, hovering somewhere between the two. She spends a lot of time pretending to be the girl the tabloids expect her to be, and very little being herself. I can't tell who she really is at all. Maybe she can't either. The book ends as a fairly comfortable oneshot. The door's open just enough that a sequel could happen, but the ending is satisfying enough that it doesn't need more.

A heist during a wedding what could go wrong? Getting revenge on her father and claiming back some of her inheritance is Olivia’s plan going into her father's wedding She has her crew picked and assembled and contingency plans in place now she just has to get the passcode to her father's safe to get the money. In a high-stakes fast-paced ya novel.

This is a story I’m usually all over and in love with, but I couldn't get into this one. The pacing dragged and I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I found myself skim-reading a lot finding mild interest in the little character interactions but that was about it. Ultimately, this book just wasn’t for me.

Smart kids, twists and turns, and a loyal teacher. Oh...there is also a day that needs to have millions of his dollars liberated. What's not to like? There is a romantic subplot that I would rate as the "worst" part of the narrative. I just worst very loosely here because this is a very good book that will keep readers glued to the pages right to the the end. This book is a winner and will circulate well!

Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka push their characters into a morally gray and completely illegal adventure in Heiress Takes All as their protagonist Olivia embarks on an elaborate heist to steal millions of dollars that should have been her inheritance.

Olivia broke up her wealthy parents’ marriage years ago when she revealed to her mother that her father was having an affair, and an ironclad prenup meant the financial aspect of the split wasn’t exactly even. Since then, Olivia’s mother works multiple jobs and has recently accumulated a great deal of medical bills. Olivia couldn’t do much when her father married the woman he cheated on her mother with, but she starts to plot when she receives an invite to his third wedding.

She pulls in allies whose skills she needs, including a baker, a hacker, and a former teacher—all with different motives for helping her. Olivia can’t plan for everything, though, and things start to go wrong immediately as the bride tries to delay the wedding, the kidnapping goes wrong, and her former stepmother shows up and tries to redirect the heist. And what can she possibly do about her ex-boyfriend who is still insisting he never cheated on her?

Everyone came to this wedding with a motive, and Olivia isn’t the only one running a con in this heist story sure to captivate readers who enjoyed Jennifer Lynn Barnes’s Inheritance Games and e. lockhart’s We Were Liars. Heiress Takes All is a fantastic read and is sure to be a hit.

This was a really entertaining heist book, but I honestly don't know who I was rooting for. Olivia is not the most likeable main character, but she is bad in a fun way. I would definitely read more about her and her crew, and the door is left open for more, although this story does stand well on its own.
