This is an overwhelming book encompassing religious studies, philosophy, postcolonial studies, and history in a seamless and easily readable whole. The author gives us a history of "Islam" as imperial perception and how making use of this concept was extremely productive for imperial ends, linking racism and secularism to colonial exploitation. A magisterial work.
