This book is all about using the quilt block New York Beauty in various ways. The author does a very good job of showing someone how to paper piece a radian beauty block. Which is a great way to start out since this is a circular block. The variations of the quilts that can be made with this one block are interesting and showing different colorways of the same patterns gives quilters an idea of what can be done. Overall, this book was well done and useful.

This book is a great inspiration showing how one block can be turned into many different quilts. Good for teaching and/or collectors.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC
I love the New York Beauty block and am always interested to see new patterns for it.
The author provides a good basic introduction, and clear illustrated instructions, along with patterns for paper piecing a basic block, and a small version as well.
She follows up with 6 designs using the block, and colour variations for each project. There's a nice variety of sizes for the quilts too, so if this is your first time trying this fairly complicated pattern, you don't have to commit to a bed-sized project.
Note that there's only one block, and there's no instructions on how to draft your own design or re-size the blocks.
I'd recommend this short project book to beginning to intermediate crafters who are interested in expanding their skills and looking for a bit of a challenge.

There are several lovely quilt designs in this book, using the New York Beauty block and several companion blocks. Full instructions for creating the New York Beauty, using paper piecing, are included so that even a novice would have the tools needed to succeed. Templates are provided at the back of the book. Alternate colour-ways are also provided, demonstrating the effect colour changes have on the design. An excellent resource for any quilter.

This book features some basic instructions and advice at the beginning, and then delves into lots of different ways to style the New York Beauty quilt block. The pictures of final products look appealing, and the author shares clear written instructions and some step-by-step photographs. This is best for experienced quilters who are already familiar with paper piecing, since the author moves along quickly and there's not a lot of troubleshooting advice for when things go wrong, but people who already know what they're doing and like this quilt block will enjoy the different patterns here.

I received an ARC of “Radiant Blocks for Endless Quilts: Designing with New York Beauties,” from NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing/Landauer Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Written by Linda Hahn, this concise book is **jam packed** with stunning full color photographs. The author included several sections, namely: Introduction, Definitions, General Hints, The New York Beauty Block, Make a Mini!, Alternate Blocks, Quilts, Templates, About the Author, Acknowledgments, and Index.

The author sells her own foundation paper at her Frog Hollow Designs website—a foundation piecing paper that can actually be left **inside** the quilt, removing the need to tear it out. This was a great piece of information for those who are serious paper piecers, unlike the rest of us (raising my hand here!) that do the I’m-broke-so-I-use-old-phone-books-and-writing-paper-method.

In addition to the New York Beauty block, Hahn provides instructions for several other blocks and methods, like snowballing. I prefer Deb Tucker’s no-waste method of snowballing in quilt making. However, the author recognizes how waste (and the inevitable accumulation of unhinged mountains of scraps) bothers a lot of quilters. So, she provides instructions on how to use the scraps for making mini New York Beauty blocks and even provided a miniature template for readers.

What really impressed me about this book—besides the gorgeous photos—was that Hahn included directions that incorporated both inches AND centimeters. This was a step above other quilting books because quilters tend to only use the U.S. system (inches, feet, yard, etc.). As a result, this book can, and will probably likely, be used around the world.

Hahn included 6 different quilt patterns with **really** clear cutting and sewing directions. And I love that she included variations for each quilt. Not everyone can get to a quilt show, so books like Hahn’s are important to show how a single block can be transformed repeatedly to form different looks. New York Beauty quilt blocks can seem daunting to new quilters, but the author really breaks the process of creating these blocks into simplified steps. I highly recommend this book!

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

The instructions looked fine. I guess I just didn't find the resulting quilts particularly attractive. But if you happen to like this one quilt block and don't know how to modify it, maybe this is for you.

New York Beauties are not the easiest quilt design to make. The instructions were well written and the design layouts in the patterns are different from the usual one which was interesting. It is a pretty concise book.

Radiant Blocks for Endless Quilts is a useful and well illustrated quilting tutorial guide by Linda J. Hahn. Released 3rd Oct 2023 by Fox Chapel on their Landauer imprint, it's 56 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.

Although the introduction and first tutorial chapter are basic and beginner accessible, most readers will encounter less frustration if they come to the projects with -some- background familiarity with paper piecing, foundation piecing, general quilt construction, etc, and/or access to a friendly experienced quilting buddy.

The main chapters include 6 main quilt projects. These projects all use alternative colorways and layouts of the main New York Beauty block. All projects include template and fabric requirements/yardage, and tools and supplies in a highlighted text box, followed by step by step instructions. The tutorials are very well illustrated throughout, in color. There are numerous photographs of partial and completed projects throughout.

The templates are included and are full size (in the print format). The templates are drawn with seam allowances included.

Five stars. This is a concise, very well illustrated, step-by-step booklet to this versatile block as well as general guide to foundation piecing. This would be a great choice for public library acquisition, home use, sewing guild/groups, activity groups and similar.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
