I really enjoyed this book. As a Black woman preparing to make a career change (from being self-employed back to corporate), this book encouraged me to remember my worth when the time comes. The reminder to show up as myself was something I've never gotten in other materials about how to negotiate. It also made me reconsider when negotiation was necessary. Damali Peterman broke down just how often we actually use negotiation in life & how it is really conflict resolution at its simplest. She addresses the tough topics head-on, which I appreciate because you can tell in an instant WHO the book was written for. The chapter about "The Talk" hit close to home while also providing added tools to teach the young Black children in my life. Peterman uses practical examples of how to use her tools & systems in real life and explains them in ways that are easy to digest & comprehend.

Thank you to Putnam Books, author Damali Peterman & NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for a review. This review is my honest & own opinion.

I truly appreciate this book. Perhaps the timing is just right, but I could have said that 5 or even 10 years ago. The practicality of the examples and suggested ways of approaching common daily negotiating scenarios are very easy to emulate and tackle. At the end of each chapter are key takeaways that I can commit to memory and execute in any given scenario. I have to put in the work, but that's also part of the gift from this book. It gives me back the feeling of being in control of my money, my time, and my outcome. I want to share this book with my daughter, my son, students, and seasoned professionals alike. We can all benefit from this and learn so much.
