After the initial pages, I found myself not connecting with the story or characters, so I decided to pass on this book. Did not finish

The Precipice Hotel is owned by the Bishop family, whose lies and secrets have been festering for many years. During a hurricane, the sisters and others are trapped inside the hotel, where they are asked to confess their past sins in order to avoid anyone being murdered. I found this book to be interesting, and I gave it 3/5 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance copy of this to read and review.
Charley is working as a maid at the Precipice Hotel for a boss with too much interest where it doesn't belong, but she has no other good options as she is also taking care of her Nana with Alzheimer's. Then her boss dies and his daughters will be coming in for the reading of the will. Oh and also, there is a terrible hurricane moving in....what could go wrong?? Who will be taking over the hotel, Charley really needs this job... Once the sisters arrive, so do the twists and turns! So many secrets, some new, some very very old...who can Charley trust, and should she? This was a fast-paced read (I have been in a bit of a slump so far in 2024 so everything is taking me a little longer than it should for some reason.) I enjoyed every twist, turn, and big reveal that came flying at me!
Once Big Happy Family by: Jamie Day, expected Publication date July 16, 2024.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press, NetGalley and Jamie Day for a chance to read this ARC
I really enjoyed The Block Party, so I was super excited to receive this! This was a solid locked-room thriller! The secrets, twists, and turns kept me intrigued and although somewhat predictable at times it was still very enjoyable. A solid 3 star read!

I really wanted to love this book but it just fell a little too flat for me. The setting of the novel was great and I liked that it was a "locked in" style storyline. However, I feel like more could have happened with the hurricane to make the situation a bit more exciting. The ending was fairly predictable (I knew she couldn't be trusted) and overall I just felt like the book could have been a lot shorter and still accomplished what it did. This is going to have to be a 3.5 stars rounded down for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this novel.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy.
I enjoyed this whodunnit book and kept guessing up to the end. It was a good read and had some interesting twists.

This was a very solid 2.5 star read for me. I enjoyed some parts more than others and it didn't overall drag. I would read another book from this author.

If you like a twisty turny book with an ending you don’t see coming then you will LOVE this book!! Set in a charming Maine hotel that is full of hidden treasures and murder this book will keep you guessing until the last page. I LOVED IT!!

I enjoyed "The Block Party" and looked forward to reading "One Big Happy Family".
George Bishop is the owner of a hotel called The Precipice in Maine. Charley is a 19 year old that is down on her luck and responsible for paying for her Nana's home care. George hires Charley to be a maid at his hotel. After George passes away, his three daughters ~ Vicki, Iris, and Faith ~ come to the hotel for the reading of the will. Lots of twists in the book ~ a hurricane ~ murder ~ secrets revealed.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a creative story with lots of twist and turns and definitely keeps the reader engaged and turning pages. The author does a wonderful job of introducing characters with just enough information to keep you guessing before ultimately filling in the blanks. The chapter about Iris’s young life was mesmerizing and so well written it was lyrical. I had a feeling about how Bree fit into the picture but my guess was off just a little and the way all the characters and their back story gets tied together is simply wonderful.
I received an ARC from the publisher St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley and appreciate the opportunity to read this book, however; this did not impact my opinion.,

One Big Happy Family, by Jamie Day, is a fun, locked-room mystery with lots of contentious family drama set at a cliffside hotel in Maine with a hurricane barreling toward them. A great escapist read, highly recommend!

Overall a good book with good twisty plot that kept you engaged throughout. It was one you want to get back to to read

This is a book about Charley who works at the precipice hotel, where the owner has passed away and his daughters have come for the reading of the will.
Just as you thought not all is well and we soon find out.
Great read

This book fell a bit flat for me. It had me hooked in the beginning and the first few chapters flew for me. As I read longer, I found myself just flipping through the pages and not really enjoying what I was reading.

What keeps One Big Happy Family from becoming a big ole mess are the multiple twists at the end. But they really are too many too late, capping off a novel that moves slower than a snail's pace. There's a lot of clueless characters in One Big Happy Family, and it isn't just members of the Bishop clan who excel at burying their heads in the sand. The first of many bad decisions-Precipice hotel maid Charley letting virtual stranger Bree hide out at the property-is like a snowball rolling down a hill that becomes the size of a mountain by the time it reaches the bottom. The writing is decent, the scenery stunning, but the tedious pace keeps them from having much of an impact. One Big Happy Family is a murder mystery wrapped up in family drama, but by the time you get to the end you won't care if anyone makes it out of this hotel of horrors alive.

This was nothing like her previous book "The Block Party". I picked this up thinking that this will be as good as that. However, this book was just disappointing. The story was so boring, ridiculous and predictable.

Fabulous book. An old hotel, a hurricane looming, 3 sisters wanting to know of their inheritance. And Charley, a devoted employee. Lots of surprises, had me turning the pages faster and faster. Read this book. I highly recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

Charley, a broke 19 year old ,works at The Precipice Hotel as a chambermaid and pickpockets from wealthy guests on the side to pay for her grandmother’s care at an assisted living home facility. After the death of The Precipice Hotel’s owner, George Bishop, his three toxic daughters arrive in town for the funeral which brings a whole another level of trouble for Charley.
One Big Happy Family by Jamie Day is a domestic , psychological thriller full of lies , deceit , shocking secrets and enough twists and turns that kept me thoroughly entertained.
