This is my second book by this author, and I really liked it. I fully intend to read others by her - someday. Like the other one I read, Husbands and Lovers is both immensely readable while also being easily put-down-able. I found myself not hugely invested in the story, but not so much that I at anytime wanted to dnf it. You know how sometimes you fly through a book in a day, give it a good review and then days later you can’t remember what it was about? This ain’t that. Maybe because I took so long to read it or maybe because ultimately it’s just by a better writer, I will remember the themes of family, trust, and forgiveness that were woven throughout, just as I do the other book of hers I’ve read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc.

I really liked this book! I'm a big fan of books that span various generations and periods of time. I loved how this story came together from the present, to a summer 14 years before and to the grandmother they didn't even know they had in Egypt.
The story wraps up nicely and I really liked all of the characters. I highly recommend this book!

10 out of 10 for Husbands & Lovers! I knew going into it that I admired Beatriz Williams and this story only helped grow that even more. I loved the way she wove together the two storylines and time periods, developing the characters and plots. The only part that seemed a little far fetched to me was when Mallory and Paige jumped on a plane to Ireland on a whim and we only got a chapter of them being there. Would have loved to dive into that trip a little more. Overall, great read! 4.5 stars!

My absolute favorite by Beatriz Williams since Along the Infinite Sea. The alternating story lines were captivating and I mourned having to leave each one upon ending a chapter.

This book follows two timelines, Hannah in 1951 located in Cairo and Mallory in 2022 with a 13 year old son and then to flashbacks to her in college. Her son needs a kidney transplant due to eating a poison mushroom and he's never met his father, who is now a famous singer. Both timelines are compelling and it's easy to get pulled into the book. A great read!

I could not put this book down. My new favorite Beatriz Williams novel. A sweeping tale of love and family. I could not recommend this book more! What a treasure! Thanks to NetGalley for the early read!

Big thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the advanced readers copy of this terrific book!
Mallory receives a dreadful phone call while her 10-year-old son is at sleep away camp. He ingested a poisonous mushroom and now needs a kidney transplant. While searching for a donor, she learns secrets about her family and Mallory along with her sister, Paige, try to uncover the truth. Mallory must also face the reality of her current situation when a summer romance from fourteen years ago comes back into her life.
I love Beatriz Williams’ writing and can appreciate the amount of research she spent on this book. I loved the juxtaposition of Hannah and Mallory’s stories and the strength they each have for the love of their children. I wish the book didn’t end!!

Super fantastic current fiction mixed with historical of two intertwining stories. I was enraptured and was cheering for the strong women in this novel.

Beatriz Williams has to be one of the better historical fiction writers out there these days. Her stories never fail to completely transport me. Often, after I finish them, I feel like I have surfaced from being under water and have to suck in lungfuls of air to just reorient myself. This was brilliant.

One of my top books of the year and my favorite Beatriz Williams novel yet. I loved both storylines, one set in 1950s Egypt and the other in modern-day New England. Each chapter ended on a mini cliffhanger and I flew through this book to find out what happened next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

This had an interesting premise but sadly just ended up not being for me.

“Husbands and Lovers” is Beatriz Williams newest novel. It is set in dual timelines of Mallory in current day New England and of Hannah in the 1950s in Egypt. Both had touching love stories and was suspenseful enough to read in a day.

I think dual timelines are so hard to pull off but when they do it's magical and Husbands & Lovers is exactly that. I loved how strong but caring the two female leads were and was so happy to return to Winthrop Island. I think this is a perfect recommendation for those looking to escape into a book.

Dual time lines - not surprisingly war time in the past, modern day in the present. Fairly formulaic but also compelling enough to keep me interested. The title and cover of this book make it sound like a harlequin romance and really should be reconsidered.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Husbands & Lovers by Beatriz Williams
This was an enjoyable book! There are two storylines and I felt different things for each. The modern timeline was more relatable and the characters were easy to get to know, and like-able. For the older time line, until halfway through I didn’t like any of the characters and didn’t really care what happened. Then someone clicked and it became entertaining and I needed to know what happened next (even if I didn’t really like the characters, still). Overall, an interesting and enjoyable story. A bit of spice, that’s unnecessary but doesn’t ruin the story.
I’d recommend this book.

Husbands and Lovers by Beatriz Williams is another amazing piece of work!
Mallory, Sam, Monk, Paige, Hannah and Lucien have an amazing story that connects them and Beatriz Williams tells it like no one else can! She brings some old friends from her other books back in this story and shows how connected generations really are.
Don't miss this!

I started this one night thinking I’d just read one chapter but that one chapter suddenly became half the book. Each timeline was so good that I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I had to know what would happen.
I adored the present day timeline most but also was completely invested in the 1950s as well. There is a small amount of spice that drops in after about 50% that I was a tad surprised by. I don’t think it was needed for the story, a bit incongruous, but it didn’t detract too much and since it does have romance as a subgenre I probably should’ve seen it coming.
I love how Williams set the scenes, brought depth to both stories, and connected everything in an impressive way. I’ve enjoyed many of her books and will continue reading whatever she writes!
Thank you Ballantine Books for the arc via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

“Husbands & Lovers” by Beatriz Williams is a story about two remarkable women. One who is a single mom currently living in New England with a son who desperately needs a kidney transplant, and another who is in a loveless marriage in turbulent Egypt in the 1950s. Ultimately there is a family connection but the historical journey we are taken on to get to the connection between them is romantic, exciting, heartbreaking and mysterious. This rollercoaster ride takes us on a journey to explore their long held secrets as we alternate between time lines. These two women made choices that lead to great sacrifice, family loyalty and forgiveness. I don’t want to give away to many details, but I promise you will be thinking about this book long after you finish it.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I'm so grateful to NetGalley for the ARC of Husbands & Lovers, the beautifully written and intricately woven new masterpiece by Beatriz Williams.
In the 1950s, Hannah finds herself married to a wealthy but overbearing man. Rather than accepting her fate, Hannah finds happiness -and more- in the arms of the mysterious Lucien Beck. As violence erupts in Cairo, Hannah is thrust into one tragic situation after another.
In 2008, Mallory agrees to nanny for her best friend Monk's family over the summer. Monk is a talented singer and songwriter, and Mallory is an aspiring artist. The two fall in love and are planning for their future until something happens that pushes Mallory as far away from Monk as possible... despite the fact that she's pregnant. Thirteen years later, Mallory's son Sam is recovering from an incident that left him in need of constant dialysis and Mallory is faced with the option of bringing Sam and Monk together after having kept them a secret from one another for all of Sam's life.
No other author can weave a story as gorgeous and utterly compelling as Beatriz Williams can. This will grab you from the very first page (when your heart will immediately break for Sam and Mallory) and will grip you until the very last sentence.

Timeless and bittersweet, Husbands And Lovers draws readers on an unforgettable journey of heartbreak and redemption, from the revolutionary fires of midcentury Egypt to the moneyed beaches of contemporary New England. The author has done a brilliant job with her compelling storytelling and beautifully meshed up timelines for the primary characters. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
