quick read, lacking in originality, but Alex's writing is easy to follow and pick right back where you left off.

A riveting page turner, with beautiful layers weaved in seamlessly. Watching Ryan feel the pull and call to explore an occurrence of the past, that he worked so hard to move on from, is interesting and compelling. Alex Finlay never disappoints.

A clever, quick thriller. This one is told from multiple perspectives across thousands of miles. It has the boyfriend who everyone thinks did it, mobster family man, and small town detective. I'm not much for mobster stories, but having it as one of the perspectives was fun. The twists weren't obvious, and the author did a good job making the characters likable enough to care what happened to them.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! I purchased for my library and shared with a monthly group as my favorite thriller for the month. I will look for more from the author.

My favorite by Alex Finlay! 👏💥
Five years ago, Ryan and his girlfriend Ali were at Lover's Lane when he was yanked out of the car and knocked unconscious. What happened to Ali?
Ryan wasn't charged with her disappearance but that doesn't stop people from calling him a killer. Ryan moved away with a new identity.
Poppy McGee, a rookie deputy sheriff gets her first puzzling case. Ali's car has been discovered in Suncatcher Lake with two dead men inside along with her cryptic note.
Oooh the mystery! Finlay did a terrific job weaving the characters and plot together. I couldn't put this book down wondering what happened to Ali, and how these characters are linked. A lot is going on here but in a good way. From Leavenworth to Philadelphia, to Italy, the UK, and France, readers follow Ryan, Poppy, and other supporting casts. Have fun trying to figure this one out!
I'm grateful for an ebook and audio copy of If Something Happens to Me . Helen Laser, John Pirhalla, and Paul Dateh are fantastic narrators and you can't go wrong with either format.
Thank you St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the DRC and ALC.

Newly-surfaced evidence from the cold case of his missing girlfriend, taken from her car in the night, turns Ryan Richardson's world completely upside-down. Ryan had moved on: changed his name, enrolled in law school, and left his past behind him. Until the new evidence comes out. Ryan searches for the truth and finds himself embroiled in a mystery that reaches from Italy, to France, to Philadelphia, to Kansas.
I love Finlay's trademark multiple-POV style, and this one was particularly enthralling due to the fact that readers don't find out the connections between the POVs until well into the book. It's difficult to summarize this one without thoroughly spoiling all the intricacies of the plot, but I'd definitely recommend it.

Phew.
it took me a while to finish this one because it normally isn’t the type of book that I gravitate towards, but I thought it sounded interesting and wanted to see if it lived up to the hype.
I would definitely recommend this if mystery/thriller books are your cup of tea.
Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press and Alex Finlay for allowing me to read and review this ARC.

This was my first Alex Finlay book and I will be searching for more! I have seen this author's books around the bookstagram world, but have not indulged myself! I am very thankful to Alex Finlay and Netgalley for the opportunity to explore a new author to myself. Check it out!

If Something Happens to Me kept my attention the whole way through. I didn't see the ending coming but found it really satisfying. Alex Finlay did a wonderful job of layering the subplots and styles and leaving me guessing. I'll definitely be reading his next release

If you're a fan of short chapters, cliffhangers that keep the pages turning, multiple timelines, and twists, then I would definitely recommend this one!
I was captivated by this one early on, and the writing style of intertwining cliffhangers at the end of chapters kept me hooked on finding out how things would play out!
The build up of action within a chapter would hit and then the chapter abruptly ended and the next chapter changed to a different timeline, therefore forcing me to keep reading to get back to the previous timeline!
This writing style definitely made this a binge worthy read for me.
Read this one if you like:
🎬 Action packed chapters
💥 Cliffhangers
🔫 Mobster plots

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first novel by Alex Finlay, but it won’t be my last. This was a fun, fast-paced thriller. I don’t think any of the twists were truly shocking. I saw the first one coming pretty soon after I started the novel. But the final twist took a little longer to put together.
The chapters were short, and alternated viewpoints, so I found myself wanting to read more. Quick and enjoyable read. Can’t wait to read another novel by Finlay.

What a ride! This story was so well told and came together great in the end. There were multiple story-lines and characters all throughout this book, and the author pieced them together seamlessly. It was so easy to follow and the way he connected all of them, and all the little twists that came out was perfection. Well done Alex Finlay.

engaging if not especially memorable. i feel like this was very thin on character development. probably best as a beach read.

This one was good. It didn’t blow me away but it was a good bingeable thriller! I loved the triple pov, the super short chapters and the shocking twists!

Alex Finlay has a huge skill with weaving different storylines together to tell one braided narrative, and this one is no different. Highly recommend for fans of his previous books--in essence, those who enjoy complex plot threads, multi-POV, and playing detective by trying to see how each narrative lines up.
Very grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc!

If Something Happens to Me is a fast paced thriller by Alex Finlay. Ryan lost his girlfriend Ali in an abduction since he was knocked out, he has no memory of the events. . He's moved on with his life, yet he knew there was more to the story. Years later, while he’s studying abroad, he sees the man of his nightmares. He follows him and what follows is a twisty thriller,
Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur books for my review copy of this book.

Ryan Richardson has spent the last five years trying to outrun his past. After that night—the sound of the car door ripping open, the crushing blow to his head, and Ali’s desperate scream as she was taken—he buried everything. No trace of her. No sign of the car. Just the endless whispers, the suspicion that followed him wherever he went. Though the legal system never convicted him, the internet trolls and podcasters never let him forget. They branded him guilty without evidence, and he couldn’t escape their judgment. So, he changed his name, started a new life, and entered law school, hoping the future would eventually drown out the ghosts of the past.
But on a summer trip to Italy with his classmates, everything changes. His father calls with news that shakes Ryan to his core: Ali’s car has been found. Submerged in a lake back home, miles from where she disappeared. Inside, two dead men. And in the glove compartment, a note with five chilling words written on the envelope in Ali’s handwriting: If something happens to me…
Suddenly, the past is back. And with it, the man who’s haunted Ryan’s nightmares for years. As he stands in Tuscany, far from home, he spots him—a figure from the shadows of that night. The man who took Ali. It’s too much to ignore. Ryan can’t keep running.
His search for answers leads him across Europe, from the sun-drenched hills of Italy to a small, quiet village in the UK, and finally to the crowded streets of Paris. But the truth is more complicated than he ever could have imagined. Along the way, Ryan uncovers unexpected allies—an ambitious sheriff’s deputy in Kansas, just starting her career, who is soon pulled into the mystery of Ali’s disappearance. And a grieving mobster in Philadelphia, whose own tragic losses may hold the key to unraveling Ryan’s darkest secret.
Every step brings Ryan closer to a terrifying revelation: the truth he’s been running from for so long may be even darker—and closer—than he ever feared. The past has never truly let him go. It’s always been just beneath the surface, waiting to resurface when he least expects it. And now, the pieces are falling into place in ways he never could have anticipated.

I devoured this one! Twisty, fast-paced, and everything I want in a thriller! Finlay kept me guessing the whole time, I was on the edge of my seat not wanting to put it down until I was done. When I finish a book in less than 24 hours, that’s definitely a good sign! 4.25 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to be able to read and review this book!
This was amazing. Alex Finlay never misses! Great read for winter times as well.

There are many POVs in this book. I knew they all had to be connected somehow, but wasn’t sure how. I was surprised when the connection was revealed. There were many twists and turns. I did have feelings about some things, but I was hoping I was wrong. Overall I enjoyed this book, but I’m not sure how I feel about how things were wrapped up.

First Thank you for the opportunity to read it! I've lived all that i have read by Alex Finlay and was excited for the opportunity to read this one.
Ali dissappears and Ryan is accused of it. He gets cleared, but decides to leave that life, he changed his name, and his to law school instead.
On a trip with friends to Italy, his life gets turned upside down and I loved reading everything in this book! I think it had a coyote eye rollers in there, maybe they just annoyed me, but I couldn't stop reading it, so 5 starts it is!
