Fantastic read!

Luis A. Miranda Jr. writes about his life but more importantly his life in service of others. He writes no only about how he has helped the Hispanic community but how the Hispanic community needs help. Starting from his arrival in NYC to now, he explains how things have changed and how far we still have to go.

Very engaging read. It's wonderful to read about someone on the outskirts of politics who actually cares about the people they are helping. What a fantastic person. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about him.

Thank you to Netgally and Hachette Books for sending me an ARC of this ebook.

Miranda's memoir feels like two books. The first "part" describes his life growing up in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, and accepting a scholarship to study in New York City that led him to getting married and settling in Washington Heights. This is not a story about a scrappy immigrant who lifted himself with his bootstraps. Miranda gives credit to those who took a chance on him. He also admits that much of his good fortune is because he took risks but remained loyal to his mission in life to improve the lives of others less fortunate.

The second "part" of the book is treat for those who follow politics. It's an essential read for those interested in what is going on with the Latino community when it comes to politics. He draws on his past campaign experience to show that it is possible to unite Black and Latino voters and Latino voters of different backgrounds. It just takes work.

I was impressed that even though he admits to taking risks when making decisions, he's successful at fundraising because he has the data and success stories to back him up and prove that whatever he's working on is worthy of their support. One of those successful fundraising projects he mentions is his son's musical, "Hamilton."
