The Good Eater: A Vegan’s Search for the Future of Food by Nina Guilbeault was such an enjoyable read! It gives readers quite a bit of the long history of vegan eating and a peek into the future of plant-based food options. I love that it focused on various reasons why someone might consider adopting a vegan diet - the environment, animal welfare, personal health, community wellbeing, etc. I enjoyed the author's focus on key players in various vegan movements from centuries past to now. She explained their reasons for becoming vegan and what they have done to further the movement, The Good Eater is a thought-provoking and engaging read.

Thanks to Bloomsbury Publishing and NetGalley for a review copy of this title.

This is an amazingly well-written, fascinating book. Guilbeault does an outstanding job of interweaving a broad examination of veganism with her personal evolution as a vegan. I didn't expect this to be such a page-turner, but it is. For anyone who's even remotely curious about the rise of veganism, its controversy, and an honest exploration of this lifeestyle, this is your book!

What a fun and interesting quick read. For some reason I was expecting recipes but that’s ok. I like hearing about the plant based movement. I think it’s a great idea.

This is a very smart read for those interested in the nuances of today's vegan and vegetarian food choices. The author moves beyond the obvious--this is not a book that spends too much time trying to convince the reader why they should consider a vegan diet--that is left to the myriad other books out there. This author is much more interested in how issues of food production and ethical sourcing play out in the vegan and vegetarian world. How do artificial meat and fish fit into global movements towards plant-based diets, what are the ideas behind vegan cheese and how is it made, and what are the ramifications of larger companies folding vegan practices into their products. The author is able to hold multiple truths in mind as she takes a deep dive into ethics and vegan options in the twenty-first century. Highly recommend.

My thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book..

I really enjoyed the historical and humorous ways this book showed different eras of how our societal diet came into existence, with the focus on meat production. It read like a research story, with various interviews. I enjoyed the knowledge, the research and the information saturation.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Much of this book was similar to other nonfiction books I have read about food systems/ethics and veganism, but the updated info on cultivated meats and climate impact were useful. This area of science is changing rapidly and even books written a few years ago don't have this info.
