In the past year or so, I really enjoyed me discovering Daniel Hurst and binge-reading his popcorn thrillers: The Couple in the Cabin, The Holiday Home and, of course, The Doctor’s Wife & The Doctor's Widow. They were addictive and fun and I would rush to get back to find out what would happen next. So, when I discovered there would be a third (and possibly) final book in this series, I jumped on it.

Only, this time, I didn’t find this fun or addictive reading. I found it boring, frustrating and struggled to pick up the story once I put it down. Which isn’t good.

Now, this might be because I’m not in the same place than I was when I read Hurst’s previous last year. But there were things that happened or were revealed very early on in this instalment that made me start picking holes in the plot and questioning the decisions that the characters (and the author) made or whether these happened for shock twist value.

In my honest opinion, this is the weakest out of the Doctor’s Wife series. Which is really annoying as the both Doctor’s Wife and Doctor’s Widow were gripping, fun reads. But this was a slog and made me not care about the characters nor the situation they were

Three POVs in this thriller. A wife. A mistress. A detective. Who murdered Doctor Devlin?

This was a fast paced thriller! Loved the multiple POVs and narrator for the audiobook. This is the third book of a series, but I could be a stand alone as I wasn’t lost in the storyline.

This was an another exhilarating novel from Daniel Hurst. Again so many twist and turns and heart pulsating moments. Each book in the series gets better and better. Looking forward to the next one.

Twisty story with surprises throughout. Fast paced. Can you root for anyone in this novel? I mean the wife was cheated on but, does some bad things to get away with her revenge and the mistress is well the mistress who wants revenge on the wife at all costs so it seems.

Narrators: Believable narrations. Built tension and expressed emotions well.

The third and final part of a series. If you follow my reviews you’ll know that I’ve read a lot of Hurst’s books. I generally enjoy the stories and it was nice to revisit the characters and get “closure”

The story is entertaining and quick paced. An easy read. I’ve no doubt you could come to this as a standalone, as there are so so many references and flashbacks to the first two, I’d even say too many. Without being mean. I ask the same of the author almost every time. Trust the reader, we don’t need the over explanations or the repetition, or the “this is why” and “this is because” I’m not an author and you probably think I’ve no right to make these requests but I think they could elevate the books from I enjoyed this to wow factor thrillers.

Nonetheless.another enjoyable story, with solid narration.

My Thoughts: This is the third book in The Doctor’s Wife series and does a phenomenal job at tying the three novels together, but is it the end? I love the way Hurst writes, full of secrets, betrayal, and twists. Even the twists have twists. Hurst is also known for suspending belief within the plot lines, which I have no problem with. Even though this is a series book, there is enough repetition in the book to be read as a standalone, however, for maximum character enrichment, I would recommend reading all three in order. Alice was freed from jail and is swept up in getting revenge on Fern, almost to the point of loosing the luster for life, including her own child. Fern has been in hiding with her own child for some time and has even established some friendships and routines, a dangerous activity for someone on the run. This follows the tropes of revenge, desperation, and a parent would do anything, I mean anything for their child and/or to keep their child safe. This also follows the cat and mouse theme with a larger than life finale that was just perfection.

The story was narrated by the widow, Tess/Fern, the mistress, Alice, and the ex-detective, Tomlin. I loved the different play on the narrators in this installment. Tess/Fern has devious undercuts but has mellowed out with a baby in tow and the baby is the only thing that matters to her. Where for Alice, the only thing that matters to her is revenge, and everything, her relationship and child are an afterthought. The characters are not likable, written that way, but in someways could be relatable. The characters were developed with depth, envy, mystery, and brilliantly curated. The author’s writing style was complex, twisty, suspenseful, and just brilliant. The characters were established and the backstory continued a bit, there were some flashbacks with the good ole doctor, the plot was delivered in many twisty layers, and the ending, I LOVED the ending!

I have both the digital and audio ARCs. The story was narrated by Sarah Durham and Luke R. Francis. The narrators do an amazing job with pitch and flow. Nailed the voice variation where each character had their own distinction. The narrators were easy to listen to on 2x with no problem. This was a fast paced, dark, captivating psychological thriller that will keep you turning pages, or escaping to listen. I loved this whole series so much that I have read some of Hurst’s other works. I think my favorite of the series was the second book, but this one was still great! If you like Freida McFadden, you will love Hurst. I highly recommend this book. Available in Kindle Unlimited.

📚 How I See it 📚

I heard so much about Daniel Hurst that once I saw this book on Netgalley, I immediately requested it. This means that I came into this series without reading books #1 and #2 but I must say that I found it easy to catch up nonetheless.

This book was well-written and made me feel so many emotions. It is fast paced especially since it is told through 3 different points of views.

Overall an intriguing, addictive, past-paced psychological thriller that had be captivated from the very first sentence till the last.

This Doctor’s Mistress by Daniel Hurst does not disappoint. While it is part of a series it’s not necessary to read the books in order. The twists will have you turning pages as quickly as possible to find out just how this one ends. Wife- mistress- revenge this one has it all.

This is the third book in this series and although I did enjoy it, I feel that Fern and Alice's stories are nearing the end of their arc. As always, the narration was spot-on and contributed to my enjoyment of the book.

The Doctor’s Mistress is the third installment in this series. Fern is on the run and Alice is out for revenge. The story is told from the POV of Alice, Fern, and Detective Devlin. I am always impressed when a thriller makes me care about the characters and their lives. Daniel Hurst has a talent for keeping me in suspense while keeping me invested in the characters as well. The plot is fast-paced with a constant sense of foreboding. I found myself cheering for both the wife and mistress at different times. The conclusion was unexpected and satisfying. The narration added a layer of intrigue and emotion. I was entertained, gripped, and enjoyed every minute of this twisted saga. Thank you Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for my audiobook.

Book one. Told in a dual POV, this is a very typical psychological thriller that was a bit predictable. I was super addicted to the toxicity of each character and the fast paced of this one and really enjoyed the story.

Book Two. Told in a dual POV, a bit more twisty than the first and a bit less predictable. Continues with a fast pace and very addicting characters and storyline. The ending was pretty shocking leaving my super happy I was able to jump into book three.

Book Three (and I believe the final in the series). Told in a dual POV with a very different type of premise. This one showed two different sides of motherhood and the rawness of each. This one is another great psychological thriller, with some very twisty moments. Once again, found myself drawn to the characters, the story and I couldn’t wait to see where this story eventually led. This had a super satisfying ending.

I listened to this one on audiobook and Luke R. Francis and Sarah Durham were phenomenal castings for the characters that they were playing. They did a great job - I highly recommend the audiobooks!!

I flew through this series. I read all three in a matter of 2 days. All of the books are available on Kindle Unlimited and definitely recommend reading them in order as there are recaps but the story is just better knowing everything, plus they aren’t too long of stories so you will fly through them. I have read and listened to a number of Mr Hurst's books however, I haven't read any others in this series but I don't feel my listening experience suffered as a result as I quickly became captivated by Fern, Alice and Tomlin's stories.

With great characters, a steady pace and intriguing plot, this was an enjoyable listen for me with the narrators doing an excellent job of drawing me into the lives and stories of the main characters.

There are some good twists and moments of tension and whilst the ending was unexpected, it was surprising because it was nice!!

I was excited to listen to this audiobook because it was pegged as fast-paced and compelling, and although I found some parts more interesting than others, I really wasn't gripped. I struggled to listen to the end, as I just wasn't invested in the characters or the outcome, unfortunately. Other reviews I've seen have raved about this book, so no doubt others will enjoy it.

The husband’s mistress Alice is struggling with her new baby and her need to find Fern and make her pay. Yet another outstanding thriller of a read from Daniel Hurst.

The Doctor's Mistress (The Doctor's Wife #3) was another great read by Daniel Hurst. Alice was Doctor Drew Devlin's mistress and the person everyone blamed his death on. Alice finds herself not being able to sleep at night. She lost her friends, family, home and freedom. Fern, Drew's wife, tore her world apart and now she thinks she got away with murder. But what Fern doesn't expect is that she will look for revenge for herself and her baby. Alice is determined for everyone to find out the truth in her story. Because she knows that hers and her daughters lives are in danger. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

I have come to love Daniel Hurst! I have read five of his books this year, and will definitely be reading more by him. This book kept me engaged and it was so easy and quick to read that. I finished it in one day. Actually I read the whole series in three days! I love how even though the characters were not the best people and did some bad things I still somehow found myself rooting for them. This was a great ending to a good series!
