This was a good book. I didn’t realize it was the 3rd book in the series so it was a bit hard to keep up but it was still a great read. I enjoyed it.

The Doctor’s Mistress is the third book in The Doctor's Wife series. This is not a stand-alone and you will have to read the first two books before this one.

When I saw this book was coming out I was excited for two reasons. First, I liked the first two and with the way the second one ended, I was anticipating a third book. Second, in my review of book two “The Doctors Widow,” I said that the third book will be called The Doctors Mistress. Knowing I got the title right was oddly satisfying for me.

This book is the weakest of the three but it’s still a great story. This was round three of Fern vs Alice so I was expecting a big clash between the two. We do get the two of them coming together but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I guess with the amount of books I have read by Hurst I should know to expect nothing.

Alice is free from prison and is now dating the detective who wrongfully arrested her, Detective Tomlin. Both Alice and Tomlin fell a little flat in this story. Out of prison I just expected so much more out of Alice but she was less unhinged than I expected. Meanwhile, Tomlin became a laughing stock at the prescient for his role in the doctor's murder in book one. I don’t remember him being the way he was described in book one and I didn’t like this path for Tomlin.

I really like that we get closure with both characters and the ending is a fitting conclusion. Again, it was far from what I expected but that is par for the course with books by Daniel Hurst.

I hope this is the final book in The Doctor’s Wife series and it goes out on a high note. If you are unfamiliar with this series this is definitely a series to check out.

My Opinion

In order to enjoy the contents of this book, I would recommend reading the first two books in the series (in the correct order) to ensure that you know the full background. Whilst this is the simplest plot I have seen in a Daniel Hurst book it is not short of drama. An engaging and entertaining read.

Daniel Hurst, the king of thrills, returns following THE DOCTOR'S WIFE (#1) and THE DOCTOR'S WIDOW (#2), with THE DOCTOR'S MISTRESS (#3) — my favorite of the three, a gripping followup when the Mistress is obsessed with tracking down the Widow for revenge —to make her pay for having set her up for murder.

Presently, both women have babies, which adds to the complexity. Then we have a few more characters involved... Will motherhood win out in the end?

Daniel, please, a #4, THE DOCTOR'S DAUGHTER! I would love to see how this works out! Can you imagine?!

Picking up from the previous books, Fern (Dr. Drew's wife/widow) has escaped all the murders and the police. She is hiding out in Cornwall, but of course, not the finest part because she lives under the radar with little money and has changed her appearance. She is slumming it, unlike her previous life of glamour.

In the previous books, we all despised Fern (wife/widow) and felt sorry for Alice (mistress). However, in THE DOCTOR'S MISTRESS, the tables are turned. Fern turns out to be the nice one, a loving mother, and Alice is so driven by revenge after being set up for murder and spending time in prison— she has no time, love, or patience for a baby or Tomlin. (the detective)

Poor Tomlin (the cop who arrested Alice) has now fallen for her, and they are in a relationship. Pretty much one-sided. He loves the little girl and thinks Alice will be happy if he can find Fern. The poor man works and takes care of the baby, while Alice goes off impulsively like a wild woman. She has no bond with the little girl.

Fern and Alice both have baby girls. Fern's baby is not Drew's (but Greg's), Drew's friend whom she murdered when he was getting too close to the truth. He was pretending to love her. Alice (has Drew's baby girl).

Told from POVs: Alice, Fern, and Tomlin, we get an action-packed scene at the beginning where someone's baby has been taken—but at this point, we do not know which one. This wraps up nicely at the end, where we find out.

Fern: Cornwall: Daughter: Cecilia. She has papers and documents and is going by another name. Funny story about how she got them. I will hand it to Fern; she is resourceful and a survivor. Then she has the horrible landlord and the crazy Victoria neighbor. (some funny scenes) Note: never transfer money in someone else's name! Even though Fern is a murderer, she is a lot of fun in this installment. Looking forward to seeing how Pierre turns out.

Alice: Arberness: Daughter: Evelyn. Now out of prison and living with Tomlin, she is selfish and self-centered, thinking of no one but herself (until the end). She is getting nowhere with her PI, but little does she know Tomlin has hired a PI, and they have picked up a trail for Fern. The baby reminds her of Drew, with whom she had an affair.

But when they pick up Fern's trail, she does not want to go to the cops; she wants to handle it herself and no place for a baby. What will Alice do? I was losing all patience with Alice and her revenge obsession and enjoyed Fern's connection with her daughter the most.

The showdown scene was well done, and I commend the author for writing it this way! Poor Tomlin cannot catch a break! When two mothers are pushed to the brim, you will be shocked at the twist of events when they put their babies first.

I enjoyed the Epilogue (5 years later), and the book wraps up nicely, but I hope this is not the end. I want to hear more from Fern and would like for the two baby girls to meet one another as teens. This would make for a juicy tale as THE DOCTOR'S DAUGHTER.

I was fortunate to have the e-book and the audiobook narrated by Luke R. Francis and Sarah Durham for a spine-chilling, action-packed, addictive performance!

I highly recommend reading the other two books before THE DOCTOR'S MISTRESS. It's a wicked, fun game of cat-and-mouse thriller and a lovely catchup with the characters. My favorite of the series!

The Doctor's Mistress is the 3rd novel in Doctor's Wife series, is it the last?🤔

Told in three PoVs; the widow, the mistress, and the ex-detective. The Doctor's Mistress is a relatively fast-paced read once it gets going. You can read this as a standalone, the first half goes over a lot of the backstory.

Personally, I enjoyed the second book, "The Doctor's Widow" the most because it was the JUICIEST. What's disappointing about the third is there were no jaw-dropping twists and it sort of ended on a nice note. 😄 This one is still a popcorn thriller without the butter.🍿😲

I listened to the audiobook and I thought both narrators were good but at times, I forget if I was listening to the wife or the mistress, they sounded the same.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Neither of the two main characters, a wife of a doctor and a woman he had an affair with, were like-able or even very interesting. The wife had admittedly killed the husband (and a few more people) and set the mistress up for the blame. Both women had infant daughters and were struggling to care for them. The alternating viewpoints of the woman and their struggles with parenthood were less than riveting. If I had been reading this rather than listening to the audio book I probably would have quit before the end. That would have been a shame as the end was very good. Three stars for most of the book, but five for the ending.

This is the 3rd installment in the Doctors Wife series. I recommend to read these in order because it's a continuation of the characters from the first 2 novels , Fern and Alice. Lots of twists going on.. Both now have babies from other partners, one is on the run, one is being cheated on with her current boyfriend. Highly recommend!!!

The third book in this series was a let down. I was disappointed I will read Hurst again. Narrator was good.

I’ll give you a quick review of Book #1

Book #2 ended with what I hoped was Fern getting what she deserves’!
Nope! The ending was a bit of a cliff hanger ~ a teaser for Book #3!

When I started this I was prepared to continue with my dislike of Fern. I was curious about Alice, the Mistress and wanted to hear her story.
The next thing I knew I couldn’t decide who I disliked the most- Fern, Alice or Sarah Durahm the female narrator.- as she didn’t change her voice when performing Alice and Fern and they sounded alike.

Alice and Fern continue in their clueless world now with babies.
Both ladies are a mess but Alice is not only a mess but is also a terrible mother - eg. She meets up with a friend and go to the pub for drinks with baby and they both drink until they are drunk. ~
Oh please!
Yes! The plot is unbelievable.
I am so delighted this is the end of this series.

This is my fifteenth Daniel Hurst Thriller ~ Yep! I am a fan.
Note: I won't hold this story against him and look forward to his next thriller.

The switching narrators was only confusing because there didn’t seem to be a good differentiation between the two women. Besides that, it stood alone pretty well and you don’t need to have read the other books to follow it.

Finally here is the third installment of the doctor’s wife series! It probably works as a standalone but I definitely suggest to read the first two installments as well.

The story continues with the drama between Fern who was Dr. Drew Devlin’s wife and Alice who was Dr. Drew Devlin’s mistress. One was living in the dark and another one was non-stop tracking her down.

Exciting and super fast-paced story which I was hooked at the beginning. The story then went to the mind-blowing ending…!

The various POVs which was presented very well by two narrators. I like they way how Sarah switching between Fern and Alice! Such an enjoyable audiobook.

The beginning of the book was a bit difficult to get in to. Several characters were introduced all pretty quickly and randomly in a way that was a bit choppy. Once past the first couple of chapters, it was an overall good book with an unexpected but good ending. Chapters are mainly split between the two main characters allowing the perspective of each woman about the tangled mess they are both involved in.
Narrator has a good natural cadence in her reading. No overly exaggerated pronunciations or dull reading voice.

This continues the story of Fern and Alice. It's a wild ri Dde from beginning to end. Ive read a fair few of Daniel Hurst series of books and they all have excellent plots and keep you guessing.

The audio narration by Luke Francis and Sarah Durham really suit the characters. This book can be read as a standalone but reading all 3 definitely gives a great all round experience to the reader.

The story of Fern and Alice continues like it started: a wild ride!
These books are so addictive that you just can't stop! And I really really liked the ending of part 3!

This is book number three in the Doctor’s Wife series and as with the previous two books it’s an absolute corker of a read. Right from the first chapter I was glued to my kindle as I was so invested in the story. Each chapter is mainly told from the point of view of the mistress (Alice ) and the wife (Fern). Every chapter was a page turner and although I didn’t want the book to end , I was excited to get to the final chapter to see what the outcome would be. To say the ending left me a little shocked wouldn’t be a lie but you’d need to read it to find out more. Whilst this book can be read as a standalone I thoroughly recommend reading the previous two books in this series as they are also excellent . I listened to this book via netgalley audio and the narrators made it an absolute joy to listen to.

What a lovely treat to get this 3rd installment of the Doctor's series from DH, via Bookouture Audio on Netgalley.

Absolutely gripping series, really twisty and well plotted, narrated perfectly again too. I loved the way it's been left, I hope there's a 4th book I need another fix, this series is addictive!

I was excited to see that Daniel Hurst wrote a book from the doctor's mistress POV. She was hell bent on getting her revenge! In typical fashion, there are twists and turns that you don't see coming. I liked the ending, so I'm hoping that means he's leaving it as a trilogy...? Great narration as well!

This is the third instalment of the Doctors wife series. There is enough backstory through the book for it to be read as a standalone.

Tess aka Fern is on the run with her her baby after leaving a slew of bodies in her wake. Alice (the former mistress) also with baby in tow is out of prison after being set up and her prison sentence pardoned in light of new evidence. Alice is now in a relationship with Detective Tomlin - the one who is after Fern.

This a a fast paced, cleverly plotted popcorn thriller. Did I need to suspend belief? Sure, but the story was so engaging and entertaining, I didn’t mind. I love Hurst’s books, they are always full of secrets, drama and clever twists.

The third book in the “Doctor” series is unfortunately not his best work. The first half of the book was a slow meander rehashing the first two books in the series. However, the second half of the book was in fine Hurst form. The two protagonists come face to face leading to a surprising and satisfactory conclusion.

This is done amazingly well via audio, I love the narrator she does an excellent job and so glad they kept the same through out the series! I listened to the whole series and just loved it would highly recommend for a quick , easy listen thriller that will keep you guessing. Looking forward to more from this author and delighted I discovered his books via netgalley.
