Top quality audio and narrator bringing the climate of the series to an action packed binge worthy conclusion. Sadly it was such a compelling listen it was over too quickly. . Told ftom different pov including a male this is a fast action twisty turning tale. The characters are well written and narrated to perfection. I enjoyed every second. Although this is the 3rd book you could listen to just this as the previous one ate well referenced.
A roller coaster listen. I felt angey pity and joy for all tge cgatacters. Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator for thus hifhly recommended 5 atar listen

Many thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for an audio ARC of The Doctor's Mistress for an honest review.

The doctor was married to Fern and having an affair. Fern kills her husband but sets up the Mistress to make it look like she did it.

Excellent thriller by Daniel Hurst. Seriously, I will read anything of his!

Another straightforward thriller from Mr. Hurst. This one with a touch of "I'm a dad now" feelings (yawn, that ending was NOT for me).

Overall, it was okay.

The narrators did a good job so bravo.

This may have had a couple redeeming qualities but, honestly & unfortunately, I wasn't as engrossed as I had been with the first book. I think I'm over these characters. Or maybe that ending made me respect them less. Who knows, maybe I'm just in a mood.

While it wasn't my favorite, I know fans of Daniel Hurst will probably like this one. If you're a fan of quick paced thrillers maybe you'll like it.

I am sad that this series is over, unless we get a POV from Drew or Rory.

That said, the ending, I don't know if I find it incredibly satisfied, or just so unrealistic after everything that Fern did to Alice. I can't say more without spoiling.

I am giving this book 4 stars, though I think I'm really giving this series 4 stars! It was my first intro to Daniel Hurst who I think is perfect for fans of Freida McFadden. They're short thrillers and usually the twists are worth the read!

This one had some twists and turns, but I definitely enjoyed book 1 and 2 of this series. While you could read it as a standalone as it does give you a recap of the other two books in the beginning, I highly reccomend reading the entire series!

Many thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy..

Fran is now on the run, but she has a sweet baby girl with her. Seems before she killed the father, she was with child
Alice is now released from prison on the account of being found innocent (Fran set her up) she also has a baby as well. And she's a woman scorned
While Fran is trying to figure out how to make ends meet, living poorly now, Alice's trying to figure out how to find Fran and make sure she goes to prison for the killing of former people that have gotten in her way
Will Fran get away yet again
Who will be murdered next

Daniel Hurst books are always good fun and this one is no different. I believe this is the conclusion to the Doctors wife series, but the ending could be open to interpretation as far as a continuation of the series is concerned. His books are always solid, quick reads.

This one had 2 strong female main characters, and I loved the cat and mouse game between the 2 of them.

I highly recommend this series and all of his other books as well.

Alice only has one motivation: get her revenge on Fern for doing something she got away with while Alice lived with the consequences.
This domestic thriller is book 3 in the Doctor's Wife series. There was too much backstory - which I guess is amazing if you are reading this as a standalone, but very redundant if you've read the entire series. Although it can be read as a standalone, if you intend to read the series, do start with book 1, otherwise many things will be spoiled for you in this one. The story is told in 3 POVs (Fern, Alice and Tomlin). You do have to suspend disbelief on this one, because there is no way Fern could've gotten away with what she did, not only once, but many times, when she seems to have no idea what she is doing. This one never quite grabbed my attention. Also, I don't think this story had to be a trilogy, I was quite content after book 1. Book 2 was entertaining. But I had very high hopes for this one, and I have read many fantastic reviews, so don't let my review deter you from reading it, it just wasn't for me. I listened to the audio book, and the narration was great.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"The Doctor's Mistress" is the third book in Daniel Hurst's "The Doctor's Wife" series.

It is also a standalone read.

Daniel Hurst is a prolific author.

Some of his books are better than others.

Unfortunately, "The Doctor's Mistress" was not one of Daniel Hurst's "besties".

I enjoyed the first two books in this series but "The Doctor's Mistress" lacked the sizzle/twists that one could expect from a Daniel Hurst book.

WHY?
1) The first half of the book was very S-L-O-W and a complete rehash of what transpired in the first two books in the series.

I was craving more fast-paced action.

2) The book ended on a "nice" note.

I was waiting for one of Daniel Hurst's classic gasp-worthy "punches" that never happened.

I listened to the audiobook read by Sarah Durham and Luke R. Francis.

I always enjoy full-cast audiobooks.

Sarah Durham's narration was good but not great. b Luke Francis' narration was superb.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars, rounded up.

3.5⭐
Genre ~ domestic thriller
Series ~ The Doctor's Wife, #3
Others in the series ~ The Doctor’s Wife, The Doctor's Widow
Setting ~ Cornwall
Publication date ~ December 6, 2023
Est page Count ~ 266 (p+ 33 chapters +e)
Audio length ~ 7 hours 13 minutes
Narrators ~ Sarah Durham, Luke R. Francis
POV ~ dual 1st
Featuring ~ cat & mouse, revenge

Tess, formally Fern, as we know her from the previous books, is on the run with her baby.
Alice, with her own baby in tow, is out of the slammer and looking for revenge. Will she and her new man, Detective Tomlin, yes that detective, be able to find Fern and make her pay for what she's done?

I do enjoy a revenge plot and I liked the cat and mouse to a point, but the point felt like it took a while to get to. Neither of these women are likable, so it's hard to determine who to root for. There were some flashbacks for some reason from when the doctor was still alive, which took me a little away from this story since he's dead and gone, goodbye. But fine, he's the whole reason these two are in this mess.

Overall, another fine, fast paced crazy ride from this author. I was pleased with how it concluded...or did it?

Series notes:
This is a continuation of the series that should be read in order for full enjoyment. It does give some back story, but if you've already read the others then the recap is not necessary and makes it a waste of pages.

Narration notes:
Same narrators for the whole series, so that's nice. While Sarah did do a great job overall (she still needs to work on her man voice), I really wish we had two different narrators for the 2 women. Luke was fine.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to listen to this audio book! This is the 3rd book in the series but could be read/listened to standalone. I didn't have much trouble understanding what had happened in the prior books but there is probably a lot of detail from the first two books that would have made the relationships in this book more meaningful to me.

This book felt really fast paced and there was a lot of tension throughout. Fern is on the run with her baby- which has many challenges. Alice is obsessed with finding Fern while also being a new mother. I don't really know how I feel about both of these characters. I felt for Fern in certain situations but I also thought she was really destructive and got away with (and continues to get away with) a lot. Alice annoyed me for most of the book but as the ending approached, I started to like her (a little!) I felt satisfied with the ending even though it felt a little unrealistic to me.

I finished this audiobook in 1 day- I really wanted to see how it all came together. Definitely plan to go back and read the first 2 books as well! Definitely recommend!

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I'm glad the story is wrapped up, but I'm not sure it's the ending the characters deserve. There was a lot of suspense in this book, and new obstacles for both Fern and Alice to encounter. as a mother, I could relate to the constant tiredness and never sleeping! I mean the book was still good, i just didn't expect the ending it had.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was such a quick and exciting read. It tied up all the loose ends from the previous two books. The last quarter of the book was so gripping and I could not wait to see how it all ended. The dual perspectives were amazing and really made the story more exciting.

Ah, the perfect way to close out The Doctor's Wife Series - a conclusion told mainly from the POV of Alice, The Mistress.
What a great ending! I’m so glad that I was able to finish this series and get some closure on the lives of Alice, the mistress, and Fern, the widow. The ongoing story of revenge, but who really gets the last laugh?

Great narration for this audio as well.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this advanced audiobook in return for my honest opinion.

I’ve read the other 2 books. I can’t stand Alice, I really wanted to see her go down. Alice is the mistress and she deserves to suffer. Fern is the one that was wronged. It was her husband that cheated and he deserved what he got. I was horribly delighted to see the mistress get a bit of what she deserved even if it’ was only temporary. I’m not sure why Fern decides to help her. I’m giving 4 stars only because I need the mistress to go down in flames.

I must admit, this third book has become my favorite in the series. Unlike the previous two, which didn't particularly resonate with me, this installment stands out with its meticulous handling of secrets. The narrative takes a captivating turn as it skillfully navigates through layers of mystery, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

What impressed me the most was how the characters' journeys unfolded. The careful crafting of their arcs added depth to the storyline, making it a more immersive experience. The resolution at the end was a masterstroke, revealing a strategic decision-making process that brought a satisfying conclusion to the narrative.

The highlight for me was the way both characters recognized what was truly clever to do. It added a layer of thoughtfulness to the ending, leaving me finally satisfied with the series. In essence, this installment marks a significant improvement, redeeming the series in my eyes and providing a more enjoyable and fulfilling reading experience.

The Doctor's Mistress (The Doctor's Wife Book 3)
by Daniel Hurst, narrated by Luke R. Francis, Sarah Durham

She's back! I'm talking about Fern, former doctor's wife, former mistress, a bitter woman who walks through life as if she is a human battering ram and all the dead bodies she leaves behind are because everyone else made her do it. They just made her so mad, they did this, they did that, and then lookie there, more dead bodies. According to Fern, nothing is her fault.

Her arch nemesis is Alice, who has been done very dirty by Fern. Alice is not perfect but I did have hopes for her until this third book in the series where Alice seems to morph into Fern in my mind. Sarah Durham's narration for crazy people is awesome but with these two crazy people trading clearly labeled chapters (you know when it's Fern's chapter or Alice's chapter) I feel like they are becoming the same bitter, revengeful women. They both sound alike, they both have baby girls that are more than a handful with all their extra stresses (murderess on the run and juggling a three month old is asking a lot from one person), this is no picnic on a sunny day kind of story. Of course it isn't. I brought popcorn to Fern's first two books in this series but this time I brought popcorn balls. If Fern was a drinking game, we'd all be under the table in no time at all for every time she says it's not her fault...roll eyes. If only Fern and Alice got along, they could have play dates with their baby girls. That doesn't happen here...ha ha

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this ARC.

The Doctors Mistress
By: Daniel Hurst

Absolutely the perfect ending to this series. I loved The Doctor’s Wife and The Doctors Widow!

Fern is on the run with her baby Cecelia after the women whom was in jail for Drew’s murder is set free. Fern and Alice’s husband murdered her husband Doctor Drew Devlin. fern has left a path of destruction.

Alice the mistress who also has a baby, Evelyn by Fern’s husband is set free. The detective who put Alice in prison is now in a relationship with her and helping her raise her baby.

Alice is suffering from depression and is out for revenge. She wants to find Fern but it won’t be easy. Fern has a new identity.

This psychological thriller is addictive and fast paced. Reading my way the rough Hurst novels. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Daniel Hurst is an insta-read for me, I enjoy his writing style and fast-paced domestic thrillers *so* much!

Told in three POVs - Alice (the mistress), Fern (the widow), and Tomlin (the detective, now dating Alice) - 'The Doctor's Mistress' keeps readers on the edge of their seats the whole way through. Alice and Fern now both have babies. Fern is on the run and Alice is on the hunt, with Tomlin on hand as her assistant. Everyone is at least a bit bad, but they're all very human and easy to get invested in.

The book has:

- well-developed, voicey characters that are easy to root for
- domestic intrigue! My favorite.
- unexpected twists
- double-crossing
- sexual intrigue (what else would you expect from a book with 'mistress' in the title? Even if said doctor is now dead)

Fans of domestic thrillers will love this. I did!

Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review. And thanks, Daniel Hurst, for writing books that are so fun to read.
