This book threw me for a loop. The first two thirds were typical Christina Lauren charming and sweet. I loved the setup and tropes. But the third act completely obliterated that and took away from the enjoyment I thought I had based on the story up until then. The ending was also ridiculously abrubt.
Edit: apparently this is a retelling of a fairytale and there's a reason those are animated. Once you throw real people into it then it's apparent the amount of trauma involved.

Tangled Up In You is a well-writren fish-out-of water story turned romance turned thriller.
This is my first Christina Lauren book and I only picked it up because of the premise (it being inspired by Tangled) and I wasn't necessarily disappointed. There were a lot of things to love about this book and a lot of things that I didn't vibe with.
Let's start with the bad. Ren is SO naive. I understand that it's the point and that she's based off of Rapunzel who is locked up in a tower her whole life but in the beginning she was so naive it was cringe-worthy. I wish the authors would've given her a crush or teenage "fling" because the "falling in love with the first person I meet" trope doesn't sit right with me. And yes, I know, that is exactly Rapunzel and Flynn's dynamic, but I can let it slide for a Disney movie.
Maybe it's because I don't read a lot of straight romances, but the cliches were really cliche-ing here.
Time for the good! I was, like many of the characters, charmed by Ren. The authors did a really good job characterizing the leads. Ren and Fitz's dynamic felt natural and as a reader I felt their connection. The road trip aspect was a really good time.
Overall, it was a fun, enjoyable, and quick read.
Additionally, fans of Tangled will pick up on little inside jokes and references which was fun.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

I LOVE this series so much and I hope Disney keeps doing it. Let's get Aladdin next.
That said, this was my least favorite of the series. It took me almost a week to finish it and the ending was wrapped up as such an afterthought. All the action was in the last quarter of the book.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC! I was SO excited.

Christina Lauren deserves every single praise for this. Freaking PERFECTION. 10/10. This was just so so good. I couldn’t get enough of it and wanted a thousand more pages of this. I absolutely love everything they write!

This was my first Christina Lauren book. I think I've heard her name before? I don't know. The story was fantastic, but the female main character was definitely hard to swallow...
I don't know if I will be reading any other books by her!

This book was so well done, taking the story of Tangled and twisting it into a modern day story worked out better than I expected it to! The character development was perfection, I absolutely loved Ren and Fitz's personalities and was often chuckling through many scenes that these two went through. The last 40% of the book was such a whirlwind of events and I didn't expect it to be so sad, chaotic and heartwarming all at the same time.
What originally led me to read this book was the fact that it was written by Christina Lauren and that I looooove Tangled, but now after reading this, I definitely have more interest in reading the other books within the 'Meant To Be" series!

I'd like to thank Net Galley and Hyperion Avenue for this ARC.
This was such an enjoyable read! It was so much fun to read the parallels between tangled and this clever retelling written by two of my favorite authors, Christina and Lauren. They were so creative with all the little tangled references and the ending was a whirlwind of feelings. I love how Ren and Fitz matched Rapunzel and Flynn's energy. I also love how Max and Pascal had an unexpected and silly representation. Overall this was a fun adventurous read!

Just a darling retelling of Tangled! Never felt like it was childish, just a fun, romantic story! Made me smile right to the very end! Fast and easy read! Put this on your preorder list. 2024 is a year of amazing books!
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

Tangled Up in You is a very cute and modern reimagining of Disney’s Rapunzel by the writing duo Christina Lauren. Ren is finally going to college and leaving the homestead and it’s everything she’s imagined and more but when a project in one of her classes brings up confusing questions and being her curious self she needed the answers. So when she overhears Fitz’s spring break plan she invites herself along for the ride since he’s headed in the direction of the answers she needs.
I love a good roadtrip story and I loved that Ren invited herself along on Fitz’s road trip across the country essentially derailing his journey with numerous pit stops and endless information. Along the way, Fitz begins to see and appreciate the world through Ren’s eyes and he found himself letting his guard down and warming to Ren.
Ren is a great character and Fitz was a perfect gentleman and ideal traveling partner on Ren’s adventure even if he started out grumpy about it. The budding romance between them is very sweet and this is very YA (in my opinion) since it’s a Disney retelling so if you are looking for the typical CLo spice it’s not here but it still has their signature writing style.
Thank you publishers, @christinalauren and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

I love Christina Lauren books but this one fell a little flat for me.
Not having ever seen the Tangled movie, I am sure there are references I may have missed that other readers enjoyed. Regardless, this was not on the level of The True Love Experiment.

I love a good retelling and I love Christina Lauren, so when I saw this was coming out I had to jump on it. I’m so glad I did because it was such a fun, romantic modern twist on a classic fairytale. I loved every second of it!

Christina Lauren can do no wrong in my eyes and every time they write a new book I gobble it up! That's not different with Tangled Up in You. I think the authors did a fantastic job with the reimaging of Tangled from the Disney channel and I fell head over feels for the characters. Highly recommended!

This was such a cute retelling of Tangled! It was set perfectly to be a more modern retelling and had all the cute, heart squeezing moments that you'd expect from a Christina Lauren novel. This could definitely fall more into the young adult romance realm because it never gets too explicit. Overall a fantastic read!

I'll start by saying that I am a Christina Lauren fan. I will read anything with her name on it. However, I am not sure how I feel about Tangled Up In You. I wouldn't necessarily label it as a book for young teens as it does push some boundaries. And I'm not sure I like the premise for the book as well. The characters are well written as all of her books are, and I may need to read this again in the future to see if it comes across differently.

If you enjoy a modern fairytale reimagining, don't miss this Tangled retelling! I loved the parallels to Disney's Tangled, which happens to be one of my favorite animated movies, in both the plot and the characters. Did you notice Fitz's white Mustang, Max, on the cover? Clever!
Christina Lauren did a fabulous job creating Ren as the kind, innocent, naive, yet strong, young woman who yearns for more experiences and knowledge, that defined Rapunzel in Tangled, while also highlighting her brilliance and making her more self sufficient than Rapunzel. I can honestly say that I like Christina Lauren's characters even more than Rapunzel and Flynn.
Fitz had more depth and character growth in Tangled Up In You than is seen in the animated Disney movie, and I loved every minute of it! While I didn't like Fitz's character at the beginning, as he opened up, that quickly changed. The opportunity to get to know Fitz's backstory, what led to his past mistakes and current decisions, made his character even more likable. It was so clear how Ren and Fitz were perfect for each other.
I would classify Tangled Up In You as a YA romance. With only a few kisses and no spice, a bit of a departure from the typical Christina Lauren books, this is one I would feel comfortable sharing with my 14 year old daughter without any reservations.
I had the opportunity to read an advance copy and am sharing my honest review voluntarily.

I really had fun reading this modern Rapunzel-esque/Tangled romance. The story was cute and it seemed to go by too fast, as I find is the case with most of the Christina Lauren titles I read. Our patrons will love it and we will be buying multiple copies.

This was cute. It just wasn't my brand of cute. I think this will be a huge hit for CH fans! I just don't think I'm one of them.

I couldn't put it down I was so intrigued and I wanted to follow this story and find out what happened it didn't disappoint at all so thankful I got to read this

A modern-day retelling of Rapunzel, Tangled Up in You is an exploration of character development and growth. The pace of this book was quick to start, a little dragging in the middle and a full-on sprint, that kept me up way past my bedtime, to the finish. The story was a little predictable, but that didn’t change the fact that I enjoyed the characters and the way worked together and grew on one another. While this was a slight departure and a much younger feeling than their typical writing I still adored Tangled Up in You.

I will read anything Christina Lauren writes and when I found out they were doing a modern-day Rapunzel retelling, I was so excited!
This book is very different from the usual Christina Lauren romance and it initially left me disappointed as it isn't their usual humorous, spicy content. But when I realized that it isn't meant to be that, my expectations changed and I ended up really enjoying it.
There is great character development throughout and the ending left me shocked. I loved watching Ren's journey of discovery and self-discovery and Fitz's role in that journey.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion Books for the digital copy. My review is honest and voluntary.
