I enjoyed Paulo Coelho's book, Maktub, which I believe is translated as "it is written." This collection of short tales and parables is inspirational, offering bits of wisdom and truth and guidance for those who seek to understand faith and spirituality. Recommended for those who admired the author's book, The Alchemist.

I read The Alchemist a while ago, and a few other of Paulo Coehlo's books that I enjoyed. This was a quick read, and had some very poignant quotes in it. I was somewhat disappointed by this book, however. I was expecting more substance to it, especially since it was supposed to be a companion to The Alchemist. It felt more like a non-fiction self-help book than a fiction book with the content that I'm used to from this author. I don't think it is one that I will be purchasing for my library, as I don't envision many of our patrons being satisfied with the content, either.

I expected this to be a story, not a collection of quotes and essays. There is a lot of wisdom here, it just was not the format that I had expected from the synopsis.

I haven't read Paulo Coelho's work before, so didn't have a reference for The Alchemist. I appreciated the philosophical lessons, mythmaking, and personal journey in Maktub. Thanks for the ARC!

THIS book is wonderful. I read an except each morning as part of a devotional for myself. It is beautifully written and hard to describe. They are more than a proverb and shorter than an essay, but perfect. I can't wait to purchase my own copy.
