Solid follow up to The Guncle as Patrick O'Hara, Grant and Maise are back. Greg is getting married in Italy and his kids aren't taking the news well. Patrick's movie wrapped up in London so he figures he can teach his niblings about love languages while traveling through Europe and to help them deal with the changes.

Enjoyable trip with GUP and my new fav Launt.

Patrick (GUP), Maisie, and Grant are back but in Europe this time - as GUP teaches his niblings about love languages while their father prepares to remarry. I fell in love with these characters in The Guncle and I was so happy to catch up with them 5 years later in this sequel. We get even more witty banter, fun adventures and heartwarming moments. I devoured this book in 2 days and it just left me longing for another one.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I dont think I've ever been so excited to receive an advance copy in my life!

The Guncle and his niblings Maisie and Grant are back and are off to Europe to learn about love… and maybe stop their Dad from marrying an Italian royal. I loved seeing the kids coming into their tween angst, and Patrick navigating that with them. There are so many hilarious and memorable moments in this sequel, and I was so glad to see it live up to my love for the first book.
Steven Rowley’s sense of humor is always a delight, but the heart of these books is what makes them so memorable. I’d read a hundred more Guncle books.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

GUP never disappoints! The Guncle Abroad is a fantastic follow-up to The Guncle (but this time, there's a Launt in the mix!). Rowley writes with so much heart, and I can't wait to reread this book poolside in Summer 2024.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the ARC!

GUP might not like sequels, but I do. Especially if it is about the O’Hara’s! Steven Rowley’s writing is like a big, warm hug. Throughout their travels Patrick is teaching Maisie and Grant some more Guncle knowledge. I caught myself giggling and crying throughout this book on a few accounts. As someone who lost their mom two years ago, this book heals a little piece of me. Grief is so hard to write about, but Rowley does it in a witty, light way that is fully appreciated. Grab this book and a box of tissues, maybe a hot chocolate! You will not be disappointed.

Rowley has done it again with “The Guncle Abroad.” This book was such a fun sequel - and you know how GUP feels about sequels. It was heartwarming, tender, and the characters truly came alive off of the page. Beyond the fun excursions and comedic moments, the book allowed its more poignant moments to shine. One of my favorite reads of the year!

I was so excited when I saw there was more GUP to be had. I wanted to absolutely love this one but it wasn't as good as the first. However, sequels usually aren't and there were still some really charming scenes and laugh-out-loud funny things said and it's definitely still worth a read if you liked [book:The Guncle|54508798].

3.5 stars, rounded up.

First of all, I am so so happy to have gotten an early copy of this book. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Read this in 2 days on vacation, absolutely loved it!

I love the humor of GUP. I was laughing at so many parts of this book. It was funny, heartwarming, a tearjerker. Should definitely be up for some awards next year. This was exactly what I needed to read!

This is the sequel I needed and I'm so glad Steven Rowley provided! I absolutely adored this book, and the adventures of Patrick. Reading this really felt like catching up with an old friend. I definitely need more books about our favorite guncle.

I cannot undersell how fast I shoved aside other books for this one when I was lucky enough to get a copy from NetGalley and honestly, I’m so glad I did! The Guncle was such a feel-good read with the best characters and this book absolutely did not disappoint when it came to those same vibes! The Guncle Abroad was absolutely adorable with all the banter and cuteness we all loved from The Guncle! I absolutely loved this book and the ages of the kiddos and the progression where we all left off after The Guncle. I am so wanting this to be a series and of course a TV series! Absolutely recommend to anyone!!!

Team Guncle is back for good! As soon as I finished, I couldn't help but scream for another sequel! It felt like reconnecting with long-time friends, and I must emphasize one thing: Witty banter and catchy dialogues are my guilty pleasures. Steven Rowley delivered more of them, as good as the banter from some of my favorite sitcoms, making me laugh so hard that my stomach hurt (I was so close to having an accident, thankfully I was a fast runner to reach the toilet on time).

The perfect emotional resonance of the series easily warms my heart each time I dive into another Guncle Patrick, his niece Maisie, and his nephew Grant’s adventures, making me want to hug them and being a big fan of their unique connection.

In this book, we move years forward from where the first book left off: after his sitcom Guncle becomes a four-season hit, Patrick finally takes a leading role. While his career relaunches with new achievements, his personal life is in crisis after breaking up with Emory.

As soon as he hears the news that his brother Greg decides to tie the knot with his new girlfriend Livia, who is also a rich Italian client’s daughter, in a romantic gathering in Grand Hotel Tremezzo/Lake Como, then heading for his honeymoon in Greece, he's clever enough to anticipate that Maisie and Grant won’t congratulate the couple with open arms without his brother's mentioning. Maisie is now a 14-year-old rebellious girl, and Grant is a regular eleven-year-old with his hands glued to the game console.

Patrick has to deal with the tantrums of his niece and nephew as they connect with Palmina, the lesbian aunt, sister of the bride, which sparks jealousy as well.

Let’s not forget his nemesis sister, who is adamant to flirt with any male species she sets her eye on during the ceremonial events. On top of that, the groom seems to be getting cold feet. Dear Patrick has to do something Patrick-style to save the day as he approaches his bloody 50th birthday, which might be a reminder to grow up and take responsibility for his loved ones.

Oh boy, I loved this book with all my heart, and I don’t want to say goodbye to this amazing, one-of-a-kind family that gave me so much fun. I hope I meet them again in future sequels.

Many thanks to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G. P. Putnam’s Sons for sharing this amazing book’s digital reviewer copy with me. And many thanks to Steven Rowley for bringing back one of my favorite fictional characters with your brilliant writing and extraordinary sarcastic mind.

The adventure with GUP continues and takes us throughout Europe this time. As usual, every interaction between Guncle Patrick, Maisie and Grant is hilarious. The banter and jokes are top tier just the first book. While reading this book, I felt like I was in all these magical places too and exploring the world through the kids eyes.

My favorite part was seeing not only the kids but also Patrick learn new things and discover himself while trying to expose the kids to new experiences and understanding love.

The plot was exciting and realistic which can be hard to do in a sequel without seemingly creating fake drama. It was well done and had a beautiful ending.

I think the world would be a much better place if we all had a Guncle and/or a Launt to help us navigate the world…and take us to the Prada flagship. I definitely recommend this one if you’ve read The Guncle!

This was a great sequel! Raise, Grant, and Patrick take a trip down to Europe for the summer. The final stop of their trip is the dad's wedding in Lake Como. Both kids are less than thrilled about their dad's upcoming wedding. The banter was so good and I found myself laughing out loud , but there was also so many moments of emotion as well. I found myself highlighting so many good quotes! I would highly recommend!

Obsessed!!! I absolutely loved The Guncle! I flew through this one so fast. I was so excited to see where their next adventures would take them. I highly recommend for fans of The Guncle.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this audio ARC. I loved The Guncle, but this book didn't give me the same feelings. I didn't feel as connected to the characters as I did with the first one.

I LOVE THE GUNCLE SO I WAS SUPER EXCITED TO GET THE FOLLOW UP BOOK AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I SO DEARLY MISSED THIS CAST OF CHARACTERS!

The Guncle is a feel-good novel that tackles some tough topics, but in a tactful and lightish way. Also, the cover is stunning here! Love all the pretty colors! The kids and their adorable personalities continue to shine! I listened to this first novel as an audiobook, and absolutely adored the narrator so I hope they pick the same person for this book.

I actually loved this book more than the first, and I didn't think that was possible. There are some really funny moments that will have you laughing out loud, and then there are some more tender moments where you might want your tissue box close by!

I never want to say goodbye to this series! It just keeps getting better and better! Well done!!

Thank you to Netgalley and Putnam Books for the Advance Reader Copy.

Run, don’t walk, and pre-order The Guncle Abroad. I didn’t think it was possible, but I loved it even more than The Guncle. It was clever, witty, sweet, and so well done. For the first half, I felt like I was traveling Europe alongside Patrick, Masie, and Grant, and I loved every second. I laughed out loud and, at one point, sobbed with tears running down my cheeks. I don’t want to say too much (no spoilers), but I loved everything about this book and the journey it took you on.

Having loved the characters from Guncle and the balance of light and heavy, I wondered if a sequel could stand up to the first. I have to say, it did not disappoint.

Yes, it’s a romantic comedy. Yes, there is fluff and fun and everything you would want for the genre, but, in between the charm and the comic relief, there’s heart and depth and even wisdom to live by. Although the epiphanies occasionally feel didactic, I don’t mind, as their growth feels mostly authentic and inspiring.

This one made me smile. Thank you Putnam Books and NetGalley for a copy.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance review copy in return for an honest review. I love this series so much. It’s bittersweet now that the kids are older! The end felt a little rushed but I still loved it.
