As someone who LOVES Atomic Habits and re-reads it annually, this was a fantastic companion read this year! It was extremely informative and encourages pursuing rituals over routines to find more joy in our daily living. The author describes examples of rituals on multiple levels, from personal to workplace culture to grief.

This book made me think about the benefits of rituals and how I can very easily incorporate them into my life. I did find it hard to get into at first, but as I continued to read it became more and more interesting.

The book was interesting but the information wasn't really new to me. For those not familiar with rituals, it might be more helpful,

The Ritual Effect: From Habit to Ritual, Harness the Surprising Power of Everyday Actions by Michael Norton is about how when we use mindfulness to create a habit, it becomes more of a ritual. And rituals are important because they provide purpose and meaning to our lives. What is the difference between a habit and a ritual? A habit is the what, whereas a ritual is the how. This book was helpful, but since I read a lot of self-help books, the material was not new to me. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

Found The Ritual Effect very thought provoking.
As a fan of non-fiction I would recommend this book and at some point might even read it again! Totally enjoyed it and it made me consider things (rituals) I had not thought of before. Thank you Netgalley.

What an interesting approach to looking at those small, everyday routines that we don't even really think of as rituals (such a loaded, religious word at times).

Thank you to Michael Norton, Scribner, and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was a great, quick read, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was such an interesting book! I really enjoyed how it went through the differences of a ritual versus a habit and how rituals can add meaning to all parts of our lives - from work to personal relationships. It was written in an easy to understand way with ample examples throughout. I’d definitely recommend this as a personal growth book! Thank you to NetGalley & Scribner for the ARC!

I thought this was very interesting. Some sections (particularly the earlier ones) I think were stronger than others, but overall enjoyable. There were a ton of examples centered around Boston and the New England are, which I initially enjoyed being from there, but I do wish there was slight more diversity across the examples, particularly in the earlier chapters.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

"The Ritual Effect" by Michael Norton has been truly eye-opening. Norton delves deep into the seemingly mundane aspects of our daily lives, revealing how our habits can actually be transformed into powerful rituals. What struck me the most was how he elucidated that these rituals aren't just random routines; they're the threads that weave purpose and meaning into our existence. From the way we enjoy our morning cup of coffee to the traditions we uphold with our loved ones, every ritual holds a significance that often goes unnoticed. Norton's exploration of the science behind these rituals and their impact on our well-being was both compelling and enlightening.
As a fan of self-help literature, I thoroughly enjoyed diving into this book, finding its insights both enlightening and practical. Reading this book was like having a light bulb moment after light bulb moment. Norton's emphasis on mindfulness and intentionality resonated deeply with me, prompting a reevaluation of my own daily rituals. Plus, Norton's insights are backed by solid research, but he presents them in such a relatable way that you can't help but nod along in agreement. Overall, if you're looking for a thought-provoking read that challenges you to find joy in the ordinary, "The Ritual Effect" is definitely worth a spot on your shelf.

I liked this non-fiction book about how the little things we do each day are rituals that make a big impact on our lives. The science and study of these rituals was fascinating and brought to light that although each of us feels like everyone is generally living and doing the same types of things--- we're actually not. Some people have rituals and habits that improve their lives and make them happier for it. If we can become more aware of our little rituals it can significantly improve our lives for the better.
