It's been a while since Harry Hunsicker published a book but now he is back with a humdinger of a story. The Life and Death of Rose Doucette is one of the best detective stories I have read in quite a while. We have private investigator and ex cop Dylan Fisher being asked by his ex wife to solve a suspicous death, we also have her current husband interfering, Dylans friend who is an attorney and a powerful man seeking elected office, oh and some corrupt cops. It's hard to write about this book without spoiling it. It is fast paced and filled with twists. The mystery goes back in time and involves a number of people. I have not read much by this author but he is great at creating godd characters and he sure knows how to tell a story. Highly recommended. I must thank Oceanview Publishing and Netgalley for letting me read this advance copy.

I love the cover of this book with the half face and all but i did not enjoy this book i almost did not finish. I get she went to her ex for help but then he went to her widow and a lawyer for help all seemed a little out there for me. And her death who does that. I would give it a 2.5 or a 3. I love thrillers but did not love this one.

This was a fun murder mystery, following Dylan, a former cop turned PI, who seeks to solve the death of his ex-wife, Rose. As Dylan works to untangle the reasons for Rose's murder, he finds himself uncovering secrets from her past. The story was well-developed, with smart plot twists. It definitely had an action-hero vibe, which was different from a lot of other mysteries I follow. I thought it was an interesting ride overall.

Great story, good amount of plot twists, plenty of dead bodies and three great characters, this book is certainly worth a read. I promise you'll be sucked in quickly. I'd be keen to read more from Harry Hunsicker, especially if he decided to write more around Dylan and Mia, Tito or even expanded a little more on Rose's time as a cop. Top read, thanks NetGalley and publisher!

This book was really difficult to get into, and to finish. This book was honestly super slow, and way longer than it needed to be. A little too many twists and turns that maybe I just missed but made us deter a little too much from the main storyline and made it more confusing than it needed to be. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book was an extremely good murder mystery! The characters are well developed and multi-dimensional. I really enjoyed this action packed story. I was hooked from the beginning and had to keep going to the end. I recommend this for everyone who loves a good murder!

This was my first book by this author and I was pleased. He has a writing style that keeps you interested but is not difficult to understand. The plot was great and the characters sharp. Overall I enjoyed it.

This was the first book I have read by this author but it for sure will not be my last. This book hooked me right from the first. Dylan Fisher is summoned by his ex-wife Rose Doucette to meet with him, she wants to hire him to help her solve a murder. A murder that she as a cop has been asked to step away from, but cannot seem to let go. After she leaves, he sees a car follow her chases behind, he gets there too late, Rose has been shot and Dylan tries to stop the killer and is hit by the fleeing vehicle. When the police arrive, they instantly believe that Dylan is guilty of murdering his ex-wife. I was immediately on Dylan’s side and hated the cop, Lutz who is set on taking Dylan down.

Dylan relies on his friend and lawyer, Mia and then eventually comes to work with Rose’s current husband, Tito to try to get to the bottom of why Rose and others have been murdered and to do that, they have to delve into Roses’s childhood and discover the horrors that may have occurred and try to find the person responsible. Lots of action and a good storyline.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion..

I really wanted to love this one it sounded so up my alley but I am slowly finding out that maybe PI/detective/mystery books are less my style and I should steer away from them.

This book centers on Rose delving into an intricate web of secrets and deceptions with her at the center. From the very first page, I was immersed in the story, unable to tear myself away. The plot takes on so many twists and just when I thought I had it figured out, something would come out of left field. however, despite thoroughly enjoying the plot, I felt that some aspects of the story could've been further explored. I would recommend this to anyone who loves to read suspenseful mysteries.

This was fine, a pretty solid police/PI mystery. Not my favorite ever, but ok with ok characters, and others will probably like it more than me.

I was searching for a light and easy read after going through a series of gruesome horror books. This book was just perfect for my needs. I usually enjoy reading crime thrillers and mysteries, and this one was no exception. Although it followed the standard format for a crime thriller, it was well-written and had a leisurely pace. However, if you're in the mood for a complex plot and a quicker pace, then you may find this story harder to read.

Big thanks to Netgalley for this ARC! OUT 10/1/24

For me, this book started out well and kept my interest until about 50% in.

PI Dylan Fisher is accused of killing his ex-wife, Rose Doucette. He is found at the murder scene, which he himself has been injured. Now he is on a hunt to find out who really killed Rose. While on this hunt, he starts to uncover Rose's tragic past.

Like I said, the beginning kept me turning the pages, and then the story got a bit boring. I finished because I did want to know how it ended, but there were no great twists in this one. If you like a cop whodunit, you'll most likely enjoy this one.

While I see that Harry Hunsicker is a prolific mystery writer, this is my first acquaintance with his style, and I really enjoyed it. Sad as it was, I loved the plot, with private investigator Dylan Fisher searching for answers after his police officer ex-wife is gunned down in front of him. The action is non-stop and the discoveries made me keep reading long after bedtime. The reveal of the killer’s identity tested credibility, but it was a wild, enjoyable read. 4.5 stars rounded up.

It took me a sec to get into this story, perhaps because right off the bat I didn’t like Rose, therefore I did not care she got killed.

But once I got into it, it moved at a nice quick pace and I enjoyed it. The twist didn’t wow me, I expected something like that, but I still enjoyed how everything came together.

I was interested right from the beginning and enjoyed the writing style of Hunsicker. A complex story involving people with authority or wealth who are morally corrupt and shows how past traumas can have long term affect on a person like substance abuse or a quest for justice.

A fast paced book I was able to finish on a Sunday afternoon. The beginning was solid and the author has built a good suspense. The investigation part was lacking in depth with the PI not proceeding with any clues or lines of inquiry until the final few chapters. The introduction of the villain was forced and sort of gave away the suspense. The titbits thrown in was in the style of Michael Connelly. While Bosch was a methodical investigator, Dylan just takes things on the fly. 3.5 stars
