Having this book appear felt like magic - it was right when I needed it. I studied from my Accounting book this time around, and then tried to look up the same concepts within Financial Accounting and Reporting for Non-Accounting Students, to further my understanding. Besides the mental gymnastics between reading about British pounds vs USD, I felt more confident after checking my knowledge within this book, and after using their study problems to help check my understanding.

I'm trying to learn basic accounting and had hoped that this would be a good introduction for someone who has zero experience and doesn't think like your typical business student. There are some good definitions and information, but the bulk of the information is provided via charts, graphs, and other visuals....and guess what doesn't display in the electronic copy of the book I reviewed? That's right. None of the visuals were included which just made it really difficult to comprehend.

When I saw Financial Accounting and Reporting for Non-Accounting Students appear on NetGalley two weeks before my Accounting final I was SO excited. Thank you to NetGalley and Kogan Page Ltd for the ARC.

The accounting class in my MBA was compressed to 8 weeks, and even though our professor told us to study the homework and the lectures for the midterm, I still got to the exam and felt like I knew absolutely nothing that was being asked. I studied for 8 hours and got a 68 on the exam, I was so frustrated. I work in education, but in 15 years, none of my roles have included any sort of financial role where these concepts are used - examples around for-profit companies can, at times, feel really foreign. I just was really struggling to bridge my knowledge to the book knowledge.

I took my final yesterday, so I don't know my grade yet, but I definitely think having this book helped me in better understanding accounting overall. I hope to refer to it over the next semester as well when I move into financial management coursework.
