My first reaction to this book is a positive one. The text is easy enough to follow. THe illustrations are charming with an excellent use of color. But I wonder about the messaging. I feel like its more for adults than for kids.

An adorable picture book about a family that celebrates nature under the mistaken belief that it is best to control it. The Pickletrims want everything in order and the same, and they are overwhelmed when their garden takes over their home. In the end, they learn to enjoy the right amount of chaos.

"Nature is beautiful, wild and free!" The neatly arranged tulips at the beginning then the picture of the tulips on the family's wall near the end of the book: brilliant!

In this Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection, the Prickletrim's love nature and their pristine yard. When they allow it to flourish and grow, they learn about themselves and the beauty of things in the wild.

The color is perfectly done in this children's book, which is fun, beautiful, and explores nature.

This fanciful story is about a family that is rigid and particular about their garden, but then unleashes their wild side, letting the garden grow into an extravagant, wild place. The illustrations are lots of fun, with an excellent use of color to highlight how dramatically things are changing.

The story is simple and appealing, and even though people can easily abstract messages from it, the book itself is genuinely fun, and isn't message-based. This is an enjoyable flight of fancy that kids and adults both appreciate.

A cute and vibrant story that celebrates nature and revels in the joy of living a life less constrained by rigidity and rules.

Note: I received this book as an ARC. It is scheduled to be released April 9, 2024.
