Amazing and unabashed visual storytelling, and an interesting sharing of classic comics form. Recommended for readers who enjoy humor and comics.

I have no idea how to rate this book. It could be anything between 2 stars and five, was set in a time that was sometime between the 1960s and 2010s, had a plot the was intricate, connected, unfocused, and coincidental, and had a wide array of truly odd characters. This comic feels like it was interesting and a tour de force, but I'm at all sure it was good.

well that was odd. lol. I guess it was supposed to be. it reminded me if the comics in MAD magazine were more adult. The art work was super fun.

This was a weird one. It hearkens back to old school alt comix. It's about a small town full of Satan worshippers, drug dealers, incels and teenagers. It was alright.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own

This comic has such a 70's vibe that it's hard to not the be entertained. The comic itself was confusing at times, but due to the style, it makes sense.

It's amazing that this is a 21st century comic because everything about this feels like it's a 60s/70s throwback. The art style, while decent, looks from an older era. The "comedy" is awful. It's got gratuitous sex where all the women are objectified and behave like they're in a porno, while the men are essentially lobotomy patients, staggering around in a daze (as several characters do). The jokes are crude - pissing/shitting yourself is the height of it. As talented as Rick Altergott is as an artist, he seemingly has the mindset of a 12 year old. The plot is a mess, at best. Something about a Satanist drug dealer who wants revenge on a judge? Absolute rubbish. Incoherent, uninteresting, shockingly stupid consistently - I don't know who would find something this garbage the least bit entertaining but it definitely wasn't me.

My thanks to both NetGalley and the publisher Fantagraphics Books for an advance copy of this new graphic novel dealing with a group of people who no one would want to live next to, nor want to even admit share the same town, set in a urban setting reminiscent of both today and the 1970's.

There is a seediness to America that most people choose to ignore, but is present in almost everyday life. Tourist traps guaranteed to fleece money from people. A criminal justice system that is based on who you know, more than what you have done. Fast food that barely passes for food, while school lunches are cut cause well kids are too fat. People celebrating others they call winners, because they share the same mentality, and hatreds as themselves, who are losers. Even sex and drugs have been ruined, by those who both don't do either, and those who both to excess. Blessed Be is a graphic novel about a place in America called Flowertown, a run-down tourist trap of a place, where the good people are trying to get out, the bad people seem everywhere, and the woods hold a lot of mystery, written by alternative cartoonist Rick Altergott.

Tom Cottonwood is going to jail for one year for selling drugs in the town of Flowertown, USA. Before he goes he promises to wreck his vengeance on the town, that they shall all know his name. One year later, strange things start happening in town. The local's men club is down a member, as that member violated the greatest rule that club could have. The burger joint is decaying fast, even as the drive-thru seems busier than ever. Doofus Anderssen is missing his friend, and Astrid is owed something from her boyfriend who is also missing. Even the local Satanists seemed disturbed. The woods seem to be the only common factor, that and the return of Tom Cottonwood, who wants to take back his crown as Acid King, and seal his deal with the devil, a deal that will end in multiple murder.

A sleazy look at the American dream as Flowetown seems to both exist today, and yet in many ways the mid-to-late-70's. Muscle cars mix with cell phones. Acid and Ectasy are on everyone's lips, halter tops mix with Incel men's clubs. Sort of if Dazed and Confused was directed by David Lynch. The plot is interesting, and comes together well. There are a lot of characters, but they are all rendered uniquely and standout, so one can't be confused. There is a lot of sex, drugs, and not much rock and roll, but there are naked fisherman, who are a tourist draw. Also there is a lot of humour, and cynicism, especially when it comes to justice and police enforcement. The art is really good. The characters have their own look, the backgrounds are great, the cars are rendered really well. The feel is underground, but of today, that feeling that the art was dashed off to be mimeographed and stapled to sell outside of a Big Brother and the Holding Co. show. This is my first exposure to Rick Altergott, and I really liked it.

Recommended for underground comic fans, Fantagraphics regulars and people who want to try something new. This isn't for everyone, but for the people who like this kind of stuff will really like this.

This isn’t for me. The story was too hard to follow and chaotic but I appreciate that was the point.

A town filled with rather peculiar characters and people who get sucked into the lives and actions of others in a random a chaotic way. It is a wild book with weird characters but it all fits together in a weird zany way. A zany story about zany people living zany lives in a zany small town.

If you like zany then this is for you.

Okay, that was nuts. I've never read a graphic novel this violent and risque before. And it threw me off that the characters were not drawn in a flattering way at all, but of course that was part of the whole scene, which was not a pleasant place. Even though the main bad guy was obvious, there was plenty of other bad behavior. And, hilariously, naked fishermen.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this wild story

Altergott summons up the days of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and Russ Meyer flicks. A fun counter-culture book that seems a little densely packed in.
