Before diving into this review, it's important to mention that this book tackles heavy topics surrounding sexual assault, and it may not be suitable for all readers. With that said, I personally found it to be a thought-provoking and insightful read. As someone who hadn't previously explored self-help or advice books related to sexual shame, I was surprised by how much I could relate to the experiences and emotions discussed by the author, despite not having the same exact story. It was comforting to realize that many women share similar thoughts and feelings on these sensitive matters. Moreover, the book injects moments of humor, such as the memorable passage about buffalos and eyesight, which offers a much-needed lightness to balance the darker themes.

I should note that the book heavily incorporates religious and spiritual elements. It's worth mentioning though, that if you're not inclined towards religion or spirituality, the religious aspects of the book may catch you off guard.

BooksGoSocial and Netgalley gave me a copy of A Purely Wrong Story to review:

You lost your innocence, but shame is stealing everything you've got left.

With dysfunctional sexual incidents on the rise, so are the numbers of women living with the shame caused by these detrimental experiences. Until now, your best options have been guarding your story and masking your pain.

But it's time to improve your prospects.

Although you might feel awkward or embarrassed about your situation, author Laurel Burns was once ashamed too.

With discreet support, A Purely Wrong Story halts shame's infiltration and helps you:

Recognize and assess your experiences and guilt

Find out what's preventing your healing

Remove barriers keeping you from approaching Scripture as a non-believer or even as a believer

Put an end to self-doubt and shame

I give A Purely Wrong Story five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Lots of books have been written about purity culture and the shame it creates. This book fits into that category, but also invites us to ask what story we tell about our experiences and the feelings that story ultimately brings out. It's worth reading, but there are some other resources that I find more comprehensive and helpful on similar subjects (particularly the current work of Sheila Wray Gregoire).
