This book desperately needs a good editor! The author often repeats the same fact or idea over and over again. Also, this is a book about the financial history of the US, but the author must have read several regular history books and felt compelled to include several long sections of non-financial history in his book. A good editor would have cleaned all of this up and this would have reduced this overly long book to a more readable number of pages.
In spite of these easily correctable flaws this is actually a really good book for people who are interested in financial history! And once it is shortened people will want to read it!
Two final notes. Several of Mr. Higgins' charts and graphs are illegible in its current Kindle format and the author cites John Kenneth Galbreath more than any other economist. And over the years Mr. Galbreath's stature as an economic authority has been in decline. Even his son, James Galbreath has been moving away from some of his father's ideas.

I think this is an important book. The full title is "Investing in U.S. Financial History: Understanding the Past to Forecast the Future" by Mark J. Higgins

From my point of view as a small investor, it is useful guide to things which have happened and may be like what can happen to your investments. I believe that the more financial history you know, the better you can prepare for the future.

It covers issues such as the national debt, the Federal Reserve, financial regulations and many other financial issues. I highly recommend this book as it covers important issues and historical events clearly and interestingly.

A budget of what is to come came to prosed based on that which was spent in the past. Tread wisely and spend your dollar wisely therefore least the beaker pecks the perches.
