I really wanted to love this one, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. The first 2/3 of the book was about how the two main characters fight all the time, but have so much sexual chemistry they can’t stay away from each other. It was all very toxic, and though as the story develops you find more reasoning behind their behaviors, it still doesn’t make you root for the couple. Throw in a reality tv show for two money starved individuals and you now have forced proximity and the manipulation of the producers. The characters fell flat and the game portion of the book was a bit boring. I have heard that the very last part gets interesting; so read the synopsis and the last 15% and there you go. Thank you net galley and the publisher for the e-arc of this novel.

Journalist Olivia Martin and actor Chuck Walsh are already together as this book begins. But after their spectacular break is caught on video and goes viral they are surprised to receive an offer they can’t refuse. If they can live together for one month for a reality tv show they can earn one million dollars. She needs the money to pay for her grandmother’s senior care and he needs the exposure for his acting career. But of course it isn’t going to be easy. Their combustible chemistry makes it hard to be together. And everytime they touch they get fined money from their payout.

This is a fun and silly romp that has a lot of heart. I thought I’d miss them getting together but it is shared through the story. And they both have added depth and back stories that I won’t spoil here. You can’t help rooting for them even as the tv show is provoking them. I enjoyed both characters and how exceptionally well everything wraps up. I love Olivia’s best friend who sends photos of cute dogs to distract her when she finds her attraction to Chuck hard to handle. This is the second book I’ve read by the author and I will look for her next book as well.

i loved olivia and chick!! the chemistry was insane from start to finish (their banter... im crying it was so good)
its second chance, forced proximity and its set in a reality tv show. that last aspect made me hesitant at first but it was actually so fun and pretty original.
the third act conflict was a bit cliche but if you dont mind, you'll love this book!

This was such a fun take on reality TV!

When our main characters, Olivia and Chuck, went through a viral breakup, they were quickly sought out to cast in a reality show called Name Your Price. The premise of the show was to stay inside the same home for one month and if they could accomplish that, they would both win a million dollars. If they walked out, neither of them would win anything. There was also some fine print, they were not allowed any physical contact. If they cuddled, kissed, hugged, etc then money would be deducted from the winnings. Think: Too Hot to Handle from @netflix . Same concept.

When the two were forced to coexist, they talked through a lot of their problems and found that they may still have feelings for each other.

If you’re someone who likes reality TV, this one might be for you! It was such a fun read and I highly recommend! Huge thanks to @netgalley and @duttonbooks for gifting me a copy.

This was more of a 3.5 stars rounded up. I'm sad to say that I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to!

We follow Olivia and Chuck, a Hollywood couple going through a fiery breakup. They get offered to go on a game show to win a million dollars each. The catch? They have to live together for a month with the caveat that they cannot leave or touch each other.

I feel like this might be more fun if you watch those Bravo or Netflix reality tv shows. Which I dabble, but I don't watch often enough for it to be something I can say I enjoy. These two felt like two incredibly toxic people to be in a relationship together (especially Olivia), so it was hard to root for them when they both clearly need to work on themselves before commiting to each other. I also felt like their time in the house was a bit too short and I didn't like the conflict that caused the third act breakup (if you can call it that).

If you like terrible people being terrible in front of cameras, this might be more suited to your taste. Unfortunately, this one was just not for me!

Thank you for the advanced reading copy. This book had such an interesting and fun premise. Olivia and Chuck had undeniable chemistry and fun banter. Reading in one day and couldn’t wait to see how everything worked out while rooting for them the whole time.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. The idea of it was great with the game show set up and forced proximity. However, these characters bicker like school children and have a severe lack maturity. For me, I have to be able to connect to or root for at least one of the mains while reading a story and I just couldn't here because of the childish remarks and unbelievably petty comebacks.

A rom-com that has a reality tv show concept that includes a second chance romance, PASSION (aka fighting?!?), drama, idk their dating but they feel like enemies (but also like they never fell out of love), and MORE!
Name Your Price has a B-list actor MMC, Chuck, and an entertainment journalist FMC, Olivia. I really love the Hollywood aspect of this AND the fact that there are extra elements of suspense and things that keep you on the edge of your seat until the end of the book. When I started this book, I was worried it was going to play out exactly how I assumed but I was WRONG, Holly James handled this in such a unique way and it keeps you on your toes!
Thanks to Dutton books for an early copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review!💖

I would like to preface this review by saying thank you to Dutton Press and Netgalley for sending me an ARC of Name Your Price by Holly James in exchange for my honest review.

Would you live in a house with your ex for a chance of winning a million dollars? That's exactly what Olivia and Chuck signed up for after their explosive breakup in the streets gets recorded and goes viral.

I requested this title because I really enjoyed Deja Glitch by Holly James but this one fell flat for me. I think the beginning of this story was really difficult for me to get into the book. I was immediately turned off by Olivia's repeated cruelness to Chuck in the beginning. I like grumpy vs sunshine or enemies to lovers as much as the next guy, but Olivia's character immediately bothered me. As I read on, I learned more about Olivia's character and ended up liking her a lot more. But, the beginning of the story ruined it for me. It set the tone for the rest of the book and I didn't love it.

I think the side story with Olivia and her parent's really brought up my rating on this one because I think it gave some depth to Olivia that I could appreciate more. I think it humanized her more.

Now, Chuck on the other hand felt very flat to me. I think we got a lot from Olivia in this book and Chuck was an unimportant side character that no one really cared about. It wasn't towards the end where we get that inside look on Chuck's story finally and it almost felt overshadowed. But, I did enjoy the epilogue!

I gave this three stars because it was an alright read. I wouldn't read it again but there were elements of this story I did enjoy.

Name Your Price comes out on 7/30/24!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me a first look at Holly James' Name Your Price. I enjoyed reading this book! I loved the reality show element and the overall character development. I found this to be a refreshing read! It is sad at times but still remains light-hearted and leaves you feeling hopeful. Elements and relationships between Olivia's family in this story remind me of Taylor Jenkins Reid's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I enjoyed this book and I appreciate how it is not too sexual but overall a quality rom-com story.

Thank you Penguin Group & Netgalley for the advance reading copy. OH MY GOSH 😍🔥 This book is Too Hot To Handle meets second chance romance. The sparks were flying from page one & it just got better. Liv & Chuck had witty banter, sweet moments and sizzling chemistry. The cast of support characters were hilarious and so realistic. This is a must read romance for summer 2024!

This was so cute! I love a good romcom and this one did not disappoint. Olivia and Chuck’s chemistry was explosive from page 1 and the slow burn was absolutely perfect. The idea of them being on a reality show to win money was hilarious and the time they spent living together for the show will make you laugh out loud.

I liked the book pretty well, but I could not stand Chuck's obessive diet. I think also, their relationship might have been to volitale for me.

* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.

Little sweet and spicy read! Chuck and Olivia have a massive breakup fight which ends up going viral, when a reality tv show reaches out to them for a chance to win a million dollars. How could you say no to that?! There are some fun challenges and uncomfortable interviews but it’s clear as day that they aren’t over eachother one bit. Of course there’s also some family and work drama thrown in to mix it up even more.

Would recommend.

3.5/5 ⭐️ 1.5/5🌶️

Chuck Walsh and Olivia Martin have a tumultuous, albeit sexy, relationship. A repeat storm of fights and makeups, and most importantly, undeniable chemistry. When Olivia and Chuck's grand <s>finale</s> fight is recorded and posted all over the internet, they are thrusted into an opportunity they never thought they had. When gameshow <i>Name Your Price</i> reaches out to offer the unhappy couple one million dollars (each!) to stay locked up in a house together for a month, the two forge a temporary truce. They both need the money, and a million dollars could be life changing. But is it worth their sanity? As the gameshow ups the antics, Olivia and Chuck have to confront the reasons behind their on-again/off-again relationship and somehow make it through a month locked up together.

I think the premise of this story is super cute, although not something I would typically pick out for myself. I think it's difficult to write a story about Hollywood characters while staying true and authentic and accessible to readers, and I think that's mostly where Name Your Price lacks. The chemistry between Chuck and Olivia is undeniable, if a little over explained and analyzed by James' prose. However, the parts of the book that lost me were about Chuck and his experience trying to make it in Hollywood. Sorry Chuck, but I stand with Olivia in getting pissed that you missed her grandma's birthday for an audition.

Chuck did win me over eventually, however. Although pointedly overprotective (probably James' attempt at justifying his other male behaviors), I loved how you know from early on that he is in this situation to win Olivia back and for no other reasons. He is doting and wants to work hard to make it work with Olivia and I appreciate his tenacity. I think Holly James let the plot do a lot of the heavy lifting in telling the story and sort of understated the actual details that would allow for further connection to the characters, but there's only so much one can do.

Thank you to Dutton, Penguin Random House, and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

Holly James does it again! I always look forward to her reads. She makes them fun and entertaining, with a little bit of seriousness and healing.

Chuck and Olivia are given the opportunity to win $1 million. What do they have to do? Just live in the same house for one month. Oh, and they're exes.

There are a few rules they must adhere by when they're in the house: no touching. Doesn't seem bad, right? Well, this couple couldn't keep their hands off of each other. Did I mention there's only one bed?

Read this is you enjoy: reality tv competitions, good banter, character development, one bed trope, second chance trope.

Holly James knows how to write characters! You truly want these two to win that money with the many tests that they are given. It's a quick read with a little spice to it. The characters are working through their own problems throughout. I would recommend!

Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love Hollywood set rom-coms and this book delivered. The premise is really clever, the backstory moving, the spice is spicy, and the love story is surprisingly tender. Bravo.

Holly James has written some of my fav books in the past, but after reading so many reality dating books, this one fell so flat. I didn't care much about the characters and I had a hard time caring what happened to them based on first impressions.

⭐️: 3/5

Despite their obvious chemistry, Olivia and Chuck are constantly fighting, and when their breakup goes viral, they’re presented with a unique opportunity: be filmed for a reality show living together for 30 days and get paid a million dollars each. Both needing the money, they decide to do the show, but there’s a catch, they can’t touch each other either, or risk losing the money. Can they put up with each other and resist each other for a whole month?

I have a love hate relationship with forced proximity trope romcom. On one hand, the tension has the potential to be great, but on the other hand, the premise of the forced proximity also has the potential to be so contrived it hurts to read. This fell somewhere in the middle, where the idea of a reality show forcing exes to cohabitate isn’t that far fetched honestly, but there was also a bit of a logical gap here somewhere around how physically attracted they were to each other, and how bafflingly unable they were to put their problems aside for so much money. First off, the physical attraction was just kind of obnoxious and ridiculous to read about. It just went too far I think, even for a romcom. Then there was the unforgivable immaturity of both parties, especially Olivia. Both were just so sheltered and spoiled, so the contention between the two of them trying to be created came off as just unnecessary and childish. I was in for the plot at the beginning, but it just didn’t pan out in a direction I enjoyed or related to. Overall, this one was a light and quick read, but there’s much better romcoms out there with similar tropes. Also, single POV just doesn’t hit as hard as dual POV, you can’t prove me wrong.

Thank you to @netgalley and @duttonbooks for this free eARC in exchange for my honest review!

Can we give standing ovations to books? Because this one right here is amazing with lots of heartfelt moments that had me blinking back tears multiple times and very high sexually charged energy from both MCs. Loved the chemistry between Olivia and Chuck.
