I enjoyed this book a lot. I didn’t guess the killer which is always a plus. At one point the author had repeated the victim’s full name so much it got annoying. As well as the main character talking so much about being an independent woman so much.

This was just a fun story! I loved Mabel and the “useful women”. This story gripped me from the beginning and I so enjoyed the journey!

This book took far too long to get anywhere important. I lost a lot of interest as more and more characters were added, each lacking a good physical description or unique personality. The main character was far too invested in the mystery for someone who wasn't even remotely affected by it. It wasn't her job, she didn't know anyone involved. It felt like the author had an idea for a mystery and an idea for a main character and decided that they needed to go together. Spoiler alert: they didn't.

I listened to the audiobook of this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a cosy murder mystery set in 1920's London that kept me guessing and intrigued from the start.

The author has created a fantastic character in Mabel Canning; she is strong, independent but not afraid of accepting help when it's needed and when a dead man literally falls at her feet whilst she is assisting at a wake for the Useful Women's Agency, so begins Mabel's foray into the world of investigation whilst juggling various jobs for the Agency.

This book is full of fantastic characters and the setting is vividly described putting you right there in that time period. The plot is intriguing and the pace was perfect for me especially as it was an audiobook. I found it easy to get back into the story when I had to take a break from listening ... due to work getting in the way!!!

Overall, a really good start to a new series and one that I am looking forward to seeing how the characters develop further and where it takes me. Thanks must go to the author, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of this promising new series.

I really like these kinds of mysteries. There is nothing over the top for this book. In fact, it is pretty ordinary but I like the simplicity and the era in which it is set.

It is about a woman making it on her own at a time where women were mostly dependent on men.

I think you should absolutely read it.

It took me a bit to start and get through this book and not entirely sure why.

The audiobook was really well narrated, loved listening to the voice, and the story was well constructed, but somehow it just fell a bit dragy to me.
I wasn't too invested in the characters, and I do feel like the audiobook might have made it harder to keep track of who is who. I did really enjoy the murder-mystery aspect of it, and the investigative side of Mabel!

I'd definitely be happy to hear more from this author, and I probably would recommend this book to mystery and audiobook fans!

I really enjoyed this historical cozy mystery about an independent woman living in London in the early 1920's. I found the mystery to be interesting and the story had enough twists and turns that it kept me invested right up to the end. I liked the characters and am looking forward to seeing what happens in the next few books. A strong start to a new series.

I was able to listen to the audiobook for this book and I enjoyed the narrator, she was easy to listen to and didn't draw away from the story.

This was a great murder mystery novel. I enjoyed the characters and it is written. This book also kept my interests and well written. Highly recommend!

What a jewel of a book. Mabel is an independent woman excited to begin working for the Useful Women's Agency. However, when a man's body is found on her employer's doorstep suddenly one day, Mabel made a quick decision to get to the bottom of things and who is this man and why he is on our stoop. She takes on a few assignments for the agency in the meantime.

More than once Mabel and the former detective Park Winstone about how to handle the dead body issue and the pair become unlikely partners in what promises to be an enjoyable series by Marty Wingate. I really enjoy Mabel, then for added bonus we got Park and his dog, Gladys, which were wonderful additions. It became clear that more danger Mabel was waking into and she dug deeper looking for answers was super intriguing as the reader..

This book made me want to get cozy under my blanket and find out who done it this being .the first book in a new series was a true delight. I can't wait to see what else is in store for Mabel and Park maybe,

I cannot wait to see what comes from the Useful Women's Agency next! This book has it all. Some light romance, humor, strong women, and murder around every corner!

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Nancy Drew style mysteries and is looking for a fresh take on historical fiction.

A charming, cozy mystery. Loved the time period and historical vibe. Some parts were a little slow for me.

Narrator had a calm, relaxing, enjoyable voice. A little hard to keep track of all of the characters with just one narrator (there were many). At least male/female combo narration would have helped.

A Body on the Doorstep is a thoroughly enjoyable cozy mystery set in London, 1921. Mabel Canning has just moved from the country to the city to be an independent woman and is working for the Useful Ladies Agency. On her first day she is attending a wake and opens the door to a dead body falling in on her! She continues to work for the agency while investigating the murder at the same time. I love her strength and determination to stand up for herself and not let anyone, men in particular, push her around. The narration was excellent and easy to listen to. I love that Mabel was willing to just sit still, look pretty, and succumb to the role that people wanted her to play. She's a kick-ass woman and takes no one's shit. And I am here for it! I can't wait to see how her life grows now that she has a bit more independence and has found a role for herself! This was my 1st book by Marty Wingate but will not be my last!

A Body on the Doorstep is Marty Wingate's new fun, cozy mystery series.

The main character is plucky and quite unique. I enjoyed all the side characters, and Wingate does a lovely job describing them. The mystery was pretty clever.

Naomi Frederick does a lovely job narrating A Body on the Doorstep.

A great read all about Mabel moving to London in 1921. She’s got a job at the Useful Woman’s Agency, but she wants to be solving crime on the streets of London. One of her first jobs working for a woman, a man ends up dead on the doorstep. The mystery starts.

I listened to the audio version of this book and can’t fault the narrator, she’s easy to listen to with great accents. Chapters are prompted well. A great cozy mystery. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

I enjoyed my time with Mabel, a transplant in London. Mabel is hardworking, extroverted, and curious. Her Useful Women employer certainly added to the story, as did the likable Rosalind, Mabel's first assignment.

The budding romance is nice. I could do without the obligatory "cozy" pet.

Readers looking for a cozy period mystery with an admirable heroine will enjoy this. The cover oversells it - it's certainly not "completely gripping." But it was enjoyable and sweet.
