I was intrigued by this title and felt lucky that it was available for download without request. I love memoirs and break-the-glass-ceiling stories. Unfortunately this is a DNF (for now) - I didn't connect with Ronda Rousey's storytelling and voice despite really wanting to know more about her life and the challenges she faced. Hopefully I can pick this book up again during a mood reading season that's more of a match!

Back again with another tell all but this time it hits a little harder. Followung her hard losses, WWE career and two pregnancies this book not only hits home for lots of women but leads you to a completely different side of Ronda.

Great insight into the mind of a fighter and wrestler. It was motivational to read about her rise to success and the path her life took after losing. Rising after we fall is something all of us can relate to.

I am a fan of WWE, so I was excited to get ahold of Ronda Rousey’s memoir especially since she was one of my fav female wrestlers. I loved hearing about her upbringing and rise and fall in UFC, and what she did for women in that sport. It was very interesting to hear how she tried to uplift the women’s division in WWE, but good ol Vince (insert eye roll) just kept getting in the way. She truly is a gem. I enjoyed this and the way she stayed true to herself throughout! “I’m more than just a fighter”.

I thought this book was awesome! It gave a pretty in depth look into Ronda’s life from her time in the ufc through her time in the wwe. She shared many of personal stories and didn’t seem to hold back on her feelings and it was captured in this book perfectly!

This book isn't just for fans of Ronda Rousey or MMA fighting or wrestling. It's her story about how she rose to the top to be knocked down again and then came back better than ever. I wasn't aware of her extended history with WWE and learning the mechanics of this industry was sometimes appalling. It is a very sexist industry understandably, but Ronda didn't let that stop her from shining. This book is for everyone who roots for the underdog and also for anyone interested in the MMA and wrestling world. I have a better appreciation of Ronda and the person she is and how she became that person.

I remember the fight that ended Ronda Rousey's reign as an undefeated UFC fighter. I remember thinking that she was a still a great fighter, regardless of her wins/loss record, but of course that would have had devastating repercussions for her.

I really loved the first half of this book which was largely a recount of the moments and training up to that moment. Rousey was raw and vulnerable and it really did move me. But as she came to turns with that loss and how it ended her UFC fighting career, she transitioned herself into a WWE fighter.

Here, the story lost steam for me, but honestly, I'm just not a fan of WWE so it was probably more that than anything. There's no doubt that Rousey is a trailblazer and one tough woman! Her determinination and fight are admirable, and with the current rise in women's sports, we also have her to thank for paving the way for the future of women fighters/wrestlers.

Ronda Rousey's "My Fight/Your Fight" is an inspiring memoir that transcends the world of UFC and professional boxing. As someone who isn't typically drawn to combat sports, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Rousey's story.

From her humble beginnings to becoming the first female UFC champion, Rousey's journey is nothing short of remarkable. With unflinching honesty and raw vulnerability, she invites readers into the ring of her life, where every triumph and setback has shaped her into the fierce, unapologetic fighter she is today.

What sets this book apart is Rousey's unique voice. Her fierce commitment to authenticity shines through every page, offering readers a glimpse into the mindset of a true champion. Whether she's discussing her training regimen, mental toughness, the trauma she endured, or the sacrifices required, Rousey's insights are both relatable and empowering.

Rousey's journey is a reminder that we all have the power to overcome adversity and rewrite our own narratives. Her message resonates far beyond the world of sports, inspiring readers to embrace their inner strength and pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.

If you are looking for some empowerment and motivation, I recommend this one!

Thank you for the ARC!

I read Rousey's first book and have followed her career through UFC and WWE. Much like her first book, Rousey didn't hold back. I was particularly interested in her "second career" as a WWE Superstar and enjoyed how candid Rousey was discussing disgraced WWE employees and her experience as part of the women's evolution. WWE fans don't normally get a glimpse into the dysfunction that was Vince McMahon's regime.

Rousey has had an incredible career as a fighter. Reading about her experience post Holly Holm loss was heartbreaking as was her eventual UFC retirement after her loss to Amanda Nunes, but through it all she had Travis by her side ensuring that she kept going while giving her the space to grieve. This book comes from that grief.

Enjoyed this just as much, if not more, than her first book.

As I suspect is true for many people, I knew Ronda Rousey as a dominant UFC fighter who lost publicly and surprisingly to Holly Holm in 2015. Of course, she is SO much more than just her win/loss record, and this book shows that. She takes us into her UFC fighting, both training and competition, and particularly through the lead up to and after her life-changing first loss. She also reveals her battles with toxic coaches, the weight of self-imposed expectations, and her unexpected segue into the scripted world of WWE. Great memoir!

The End Of An Era. I write this review nearly a week after reading this book, and hours after the conclusion of Wrestlemania 40 - the beginning of a new era of WWE. Which is fitting, because so much of what Rousey talks about re: her involvement with the prior regime in WWE had been relatively well documented both in court and in the court of public opinion over the last couple of years in particular, as Rousey was experiencing some of it and then working with her writer to write this book. Yes, much of this book are complaints about how she was mistreated in various ways by both her longtime UFC trainer and later by Vince McMahon, whom Rousey rarely holds back on her disgust and disdain for, but there is actually much about this book to like as well. For one, for those looking for celebrity "look who I know and run with" kind of memoirs... this is absolutely that. (As contrasted to Rebecca Quin's Becky Lynch: The Man which released a week earlier, and which played a heavy role in Quin's Wrestlemania 40 presentation, which was pretty well the opposite of that.) Particularly husband Travis Brown and the other three "Four Horsewomen" of UFC, Rousey talks a lot about all of them and largely in a particularly glowing manner, while not holding back on those she disliked in both her UFC and WWE runs. Indeed, there is little "foundational" material here - perhaps because this is her second book and the prior book perhaps covered more of that, being written before her WWE run? And perhaps the very coolest encounter she recounts is actually with a Mexican colleague, ring name Santos Escobar, as she was getting ready to finally hang up her fighting boots and return to life on the farm. A similarity she shares with another former UFC and WWE star... Brock Lesnar, not mentioned once in this particular tale.

Overall an interesting read that "peels the curtain back" more than some, if in a more negative/ pessimistic/ self-centered manner than others. Still, a truly interesting read and very much recommended.

As a longtime fan of Ronda Rousey, diving into her memoir "Our Fight" was an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. This book is not just about Rousey's incredible achievements in the MMA world, but also delves deep into the personal struggles and triumphs that have shaped her into the powerhouse she is today.

From her early days in the octagon to becoming the UFC's first female champion, Rousey's journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring. With her unmatched skill, determination, and sheer tenacity, she dominated the sport like no other, breaking records and shattering glass ceilings along the way. But what truly sets "Our Fight" apart is Rousey's candid exploration of the challenges she faced outside of the ring.

On November 15, 2015, Rousey experienced a devastating loss that rocked her world. But instead of letting it defeat her, she used it as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. In "Our Fight," Rousey takes readers on a raw and emotional journey as she navigates through the darkest moments of her life, ultimately emerging stronger and more resilient than ever before.

What I admire most about Rousey's memoir is her willingness to share her vulnerabilities and flaws with her fans. She doesn't sugarcoat the tough times or pretend to have all the answers. Instead, she invites readers into her world with open arms, offering valuable insights and lessons learned along the way.

"Our Fight" is not just a story of triumph over adversity; it's a testament to the power of resilience, courage, and perseverance. Rousey's journey from the heights of success to the depths of despair and back again is a powerful reminder that no matter how many times life knocks you down, you always have the power to get back up.

In "Our Fight," Rousey proves that true strength lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. Whether you're a die-hard MMA fan or simply looking for a story of inspiration and hope, this memoir is a must-read for anyone who refuses to let life's challenges define them.

Ronda Rousey has been through it - not just in her personal life but in the organizations she's chosen to fight for, and to fight to fix. I have even more respect for her after reading this. She talks about her time with the UFC and creating the women's division for herself with the side benefit of raising up other women, to her time in the WWE where the whole point was to help other women rise and stand out. What an impressive human who deserves all the rest in the world.

This was better than I thought it was going to be. I loved learning more about Ronda Rousey's personal life and her devastating injury that took her out of MMA. With that being said, there was also too much discussion about MMA, to the point I almost did not care.

This was still a decent biography and I appreciate Rousey's courage to share the nitty gritty. I think she definitely empowers women in a sport that is usually a sport for men.

Recommended.

Ronda’s transparency made for a phenomenal read. I’ve always wondered where Ronda went after losing in the octagon to Holly Holmes and Amanda Nunes. Finally, she opens up about everything she experienced emotionally and physically during this time. She shares how embarrassed she was. How she hid in her home, only wanting to smoke weed and play video games. She tells how the game War of Worldcraft helped pull her out of a deep depression.

Reading the moment by moment account of Ronda’s life from fighting in the UFC, to the time she left the WWE, softened my heart for her. To be honest, before reading this book I wasn’t a fan of Ronda. I thought she was arrogant and mean. Whenever she fought, I rooted for her opponent to win. I cheered once she was finally defeated. In my opinion she needed to be humbled.

But, since reading her story my heart has opened. I now understand why she was so angry. Between the concussions, never being able to take the proper time to heal between fights, and the abuse she suffered at the hands of her trainer, she went through a lot. Ronda also shared how she often experienced “contender’s luxury”. This is when her contenders took the fight only when they were 100% healthy, and didn’t have to carry any of the responsibility for promoting said fight. All while Ronda was not only expected to promote the fight, but she also had to fight while injured.

The best thing about this book is that it is a story of triumph. A story of overcoming obstacles, challenges and defeat. A journey of not giving up even when giving up is all you want to do. This is the story of changing directions, creating new dreams, rebranding, and starting over again.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 is the story of women. Our fight for happiness. Our fight to achieve our dreams, and our fight for our rights.

I enjoyed this journey!

Recommended: definitely
For a memoir with lots of growth and emotion and honesty, for a lot of unexpected laughs too, for a career-focused trail of a woman who led the way for and with others, for MMA and wrestling entertainment industry insights

Thoughts:
Ronda has had a pretty busy life so far. Like, exhaustingly so, as far as I can tell. Kudos to her for being able to doggedly pursue whatever she puts her mind too, and kudos to her for learning how to recognize when doing that was worse for her health than it was worth for the success it brought in other areas. This is undeniably a narrative of growth in a lot of different ways, and that's always nice to see in a memoir that covers a span of years in someone's life.

For timeline, this covers Ronda's entry into MMA and touches lightly on some of her life growing up, with more of a focus on her professional career(s). It moves chronologically which made it very easy to follow and roughly track where we were in relation to current times. I knew some of what to expect since I follow wrestling including WWE, but didn't really know how she ended up there. It was a much more nuanced and painful and compelling path than I expected, and I found myself cheering for her a lot more in this book than I ever did for her matches. 😅

For anyone new to the realms of MMA or wrestling that are discussed at length in this, common terms and situations are defined and given context so you can follow the importance of moments even if you've never encountered it before. I was totally new to MMA things and learned a lot without it feeling forced, and when it got to the wrestling bits I'm more familiar with, it didn't overexplain or get tedious for someone familiar with it. Typically it was just a short note like "he was a great heel, a villainous character" or something similar.

Being a public figure seems pretty terrible, and she seems to agree, so it was interesting to see her perspective on that as someone counting it as a necessary evil for the success of other goals she had. She used fame as a tool, not as the targeted end result. Overall, this whole narrative was very honest and blunt about her emotions, experiences, opinions, actions, decisions... basically everything. In short, I trust her. I don't get the feeling that this is an overly edited or censored account, or anything designed to make her look good or make excuses for anything that's happened in her life. There's so much pain in this, but all throughout it she addressed that this was her looking back and being able to see the path forward or the positives that came from the worst days.

Also, Ronda is FUNNY AS HELL, y'all. I --loved-- her voice in this, and it worked really well with the story being told. Right from the start (and yes, read the forward please!!) she comes out with some straight up silliness, but also has a very blunt and abrupt humor of hitting you when you don't expect it with something so incisive that it startles a laugh out of you at how unexpectedly accurate it is. I love me some laughter, and this was mixed with the pain, hope, and growth that shines from a great memoir. Add this one to the list for sure.

As an avid MMA fan and recovering-WWE-fan-who-could-maybe-be-swayed-to-watch-wrestling-again, I was excited to see Ronda Rousey’s memoir come up via NetGalley!

I remember watching Rousey’s debut match and then following her championship reign in the UFC. I remember rooting for her Ws and being SHOOOOK when she lost to Holly Holm. I remember when she entered the WWE ring at Wrestlemania and thinking “omg she’s gonna make the division FIGHT wonder what the WWE paid to get her in that ring”.

Hearing her speak about her reality felt like she was lifting the curtain and unveiling / confirming the stuff that we’d heard about through rumor mills. It was kinda wild and I hope it was cathartic for her - especially since she left MMA on Ls and WWE in the hellfire it was way before she stepped foot in the ring. I’m genuinely happy for her and it feels like this is definitely the best way for her to wrap up these chapters of her life.

If you’ve followed Rousey’s career / wondered what being a woman in male-dominated spaces (esp sports / ones like the MMA environment) is like / generally want to hear some goss on WWE, I def recommend this book.

Ronda Rousey didn't hold back any punches writing her memoir especially when retelling her experience with WWE.

Our Fight starts out with a bang with Ronda's undefeated UFC record up until the fateful fight with Holly Holm. It is an exciting climb that makes the fall even more devastating. Her life is enriched with a marriage and a promise of a peaceful lifestyle. Until that nagging itch to fight again emerges in the name of WWE.

Rousey made huge stride for women entering the UFC, but WWE would prove to set her back. Way back and this portion of the book is lengthy and has an undertone of her unhappiness. They were uncompromising and I was cheering for her exit from fighting. Her accomplishments were many and, in the records, forever noted.

"We are much more than the tiny boxes that we put ourselves in". There is so much more in store for Ronda Rousey and I wish her the best.

Thanks to Grand Central Publishing for gifted access via Netgalley. All opinions below are my own.

Let me start by saying Rhonda Rousey is an impressive woman. I admire all that she accomplished as a woman in both MMA and WWE. She tells us how hard it all was on her physically and mentally through this book. For those bits I was impressed and interested to hear the ins and outs of daily life.

But my rating for this book is so low for several reasons. It is clear she did not write it, but it is also clear the writer, who is credited, didn't do anything to elevate the text. It felt very conversational and just an uneducated way of communicating. My main issue is that it is basically 288 pages of complaining. It had a very millenial view of the world which makes me ill. She spends a lot time talking about breaking barriers for women and how hard she fought for some sense of equality. That narrative is so important but the bashing of every male and everyone in power and her repeated shrugs or helplessness and emotional outbursts are what keep women back. I am a VP at a global organization and yes, the world is dominated by these types, but you know what else there is... advocates along the way. There is no recognition of anyone really helping her, and while I think she is very skilled, there's no way she got to the top alone. There is no advice for women, no nod to the other women who broke barriers before her. It's a very self involved memoir with nothing positive to say about anyone besides her husband. She basically says in the end all she wants is to live a small life as a wife and mom. That was never off the table to her. It's rare I leave a memoir liking someone less, people are allowed to tell their experiences the way they see them. But if I would never want someone like this on my team.

Also as a WWE fan, it definitely destroys the fabric of the mystic behind it all. Those parts are definitely a takedown of the organization. She could have provided some balance there. The Bellas memoir gave credit where credit was due and was fair about the business aspects and their challenges. This was not that.

This book should be one of the best reads
. I was motivated by how the author was able to move on from perceived failure and her never giving up spirit. The book purely teaches that most failure isn't really the end
