⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2-Format: audiobook, Genre: mystery, thriller, suspense, TW: Suicide, Animal Violence
The Angstrom family has seen enough loss and grief for an entire lifetime. From her sister going missing 10 years ago, her father’s death, and very twisted family dynamics, the family has been a constant source of gossip for their small Maine community. Teddy picks up where her father left off searching for answers about her missing sister, Angie. First, she meets Mickey, one of the sources her dad used in his research, and the two of them work together to get to the bottom of Angie’s disappearance. They meet some seedy characters during their internet sleuthing that could put them both in danger. Teddy is careful to protect herself, but Mickey seems to have an agenda of her own.
I had to stop and really think about this book after I finished listening to it. I enjoyed the story and would recommend it, but I’m not sure that I would recommend the audio version. I’m not sure it translated well to audio. Teddy and Mickey do research on Reddit and message each other online. The narrator read each character in the subreddits and instant messenger including ‘slash’ and ‘underscore,’ and I found it a bit distracting. Rebecca Quinn Robertson did a good job setting the tone for Teddy’s character. I enjoyed Kate Brody’s writing style and character development. Overall, I do recommend trying the print version of this book!
Thank you @NetGalley and @KateBrodyAuthor for the opportunity to listen to this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

I loved the whole idea of going down an internet rabbit hole, because I think we've all been there with some weird or obscure topic. So it was interesting to flip that on its head and see what it would look like when applied to such a deeply personal situation.
The whole thing was so, so beautifully written. I lost count of all the times that I stopped while listening to admire a description or metaphor. There were a couple of plot points that seemed like a bit of a stretch. Like why Teddy had no other friends who reached out to her when her dad died by suicide. Or why she didnt seem to take part in any activities outside of work. There was nothing to really help flesh out her character. I also found it odd that the catalist for the whole story was Mark's suicide, but the focus was mostly on Angie's disappearance a decade prior. Though I guess that could be a comment on how easy it is to distract yourself from your present reality with the help of the internet.
Book marketing is weird because the cover copy definitely makes it sound like this is going to be leaning toward the thriller side of things; a page turner with breakneck pacing. Really it's a singular exploration of grief, lonliness and finding a way forward. A commentary on the addictive and all too familiar experience of getting lost in a story that may or may not be true.
I will say that the narrator's delivery was a little flat and monotone, including when different voices were used for different characters. That may have been a conscious decision because of the subject matter, but it did make the listening experience a bit tedious and clausterphobic.
The use of the first person made sense in some ways, but I almost would have preferred this in the third person so we could have been slightly removed from Teddy. I would have loved to hear more from Mickey or even the mother. The detail about her being Irish was great, but never fully explored or explained.
All that to say that I think Kate Brody has a long career of writing ahead of her and will continue to impress. I am definitely a fan, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

I wanted to love this! I'm so disappointed. The writing is great, it just isn't what it's marketed to be. It seems like it will be a thriller about a woman looking into her sister's disappearance after her manic father's suicide. That barely plays into this! She met like 2 people online and had creepy relations with them.
This audiobook was just fine, it didnt blow me away and i wasnt really caring about any of the characters.
3 stars

Let me say if I had not said I would review this book it would have gone straight to my DNF pile. In the description it sounded as if this was going to be a twisty thriller and have something to do with true crime. Well….not a thriller. More a load of mental health clutter. Yes there was a bit of true crime but everything was all jumbled together. I was not impressed. I really HATE books that have dogs that are sick, injured or die. In this book there really wasn’t any good point to this part and it should have been left out. The only good part about this was the narrator of the audiobook.

This book was marketed really well, and I was excited to read it. It kept me engaged, but lost me with the egregious animal abuse that didn't end up contributing to the plot.

This was 2.5 for me but rounded up. I received this audiobook from NetGalley for free in exchange for my honest feedback.
The narration of this book was great and I enjoyed this specific narrator. However, going into this book based off of its description it sounded like a true crime twisty type of thriller book.
It unfortunately was not. Some true crime, yes, mystery, yes? Definitely check your trigger warnings for this.
Teddy’s older sister went missing 10 years ago and her father commits suicide. Teddy goes down a rabbit hole trying figure out what happens. Sounds like a great story however, the story is more so about addiction, mental health, not a who done jt type of story. There is a little twist but nothing too wow. The whole story kind of threw me off.
Didn’t love this one. It could have had the potential to be some much more!

I hate giving negative feedback on NetGalley. I believe in the 6 years I have been part of it, I have only given one other two star review, so I don't think I am a Negative Nelly. Rabbit Hole was just so unenjoyable to read. It was dark and extremely depressing. By the end of it, I really didn't understand what the point of the novel was....perhaps just a look at one extremely self-destructive woman's grief experience? Either way, I learned nothing I wanted to learn. I felt nothing positive toward the main character or her relationships. The mystery of what happened to her sister was not satisfying to me either. So basically, this novel struck out on all accounts. The narrator was decent on the audiobook. And I believe there are some people who may feel that this book qualifies as good literary fiction. At the end of the day, reviews are simply one reader's opinion, and this was mine. I wish I could have scrambled together a more positive review, but this book just left me feeling icky and actually wishing I hadn't read it. The two stars is for effort and narrator.

This isn’t my normal genre but I’m glad I took a listen. The description of it fits really well. It definitely reminds me of some sort of true crime podcast where the host just happens to be a sister of the victim. I didn’t love the ending of it but I did feel like there was some decent closure.
🌀Synopsis
Teddy’s sister went missing years ago and now her dad has killed himself. As she cleans up the mess he left behind she finds some leads he’d been following about her case. Although she’d given up, her dad never did.
Now, though, she jumps back into the case. She loses herself in it. Before she knows it she’s making terrible decisions that lead to her losing her job, getting a restraining order, and an unhealthy relationship.
As the details get deeper the case finally starts to unravel and the one person holding the key is one she trusted to not keep secrets from her.

Unfortunately this one just wasn't for me, I couldn't get through it. It was not what I was expecting and I had to DNF at 12% in.

Rather than a thriller, this is a morose slow-burn as Teddy tries to sort through the death of her father and the disappearance of her sister, and the complicated feelings that she must work through with both those situations. No one in this story is a saint, there are multiple spirals down, and the true crime sub-reddit references feel very real and blend well into the story. I enjoyed the narrator and while the book is a solid middle-of-the-road read, I think I would've liked it even more if the blurb hadn't made the book seem like it would be fast-paced and had my expectations at that level. Overall, the solving of Angie's disappearance felt pretty true to reality based on the numerous cold case resolutions I've followed in print and media. Could we have left out the dog, though?
My thanks to NetGalley and RB Media for the opportunity to preview this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

Rabbit Hole follows the story of Theodora (known as Teddy), who is dealing with the fallout of her father's suicide. She had never fully come to terms with the case of her sister, who went missing 10 years ago, and it is all brought back to the present following the death of her father. Teddy's Dad, Mark, was very active in a Reddit community fixated on Angie, the missing sister and Teddy quickly falls down the same rabbit hole.
Teddy meets Mickey, who is keen to help work on the case and they become fast friends, but Mickey may not be all that she appears to be.
I listened to this audiobook and thought it was just 'ok'. The premise was good, showing just how much amateur detective work goes on in the depths of the internet. However, the characters and storyline just weren't quite enough to keep me fully invested.
There is a trigger warning around animal cruelty.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ALC in return for an honest review.

A spiral into the depths of addiction, grief and childhood trauma. Theodora (Teddy) is a multifaceted character looking for hope, reason and love but mostly finds toxicity, even in the truth.

Many thanks to NetGalley and #RB Media, Recorded Books, for the free audiobook in exchange for my honest review. This is narrated by Rebecca Quinn Robertson who does a great job!
I requested this book as the premise intrigued me. This is a dark tale that so well written of how all consuming grief and depression can be in the face of life and making choices. The reader spirals through the thoughts and actions of the main character, Teddy, who is dealing with so many things all at once. Her sister disappeared 10 years ago, her father just killed himself on the 10 year anniversary of her sister's disappearance, the family dog is dying, the mother is battling her own demons and then there is Teddy...drowning under the weight of it all. As Teddy finds herself coping with grief and depression in her life, she begins to pursue the true crime saga of her missing sister to try to find out what really happened to her. But as she digs and digs, traveling further and further down the rabbit hole, the answers she finds and steps she starts to take don't seem to help her but she cannot help herself from continuing on.
Rabbit Hole is the story of what happens when you allow yourself to be waylaid by something you don't really want answers to but you won't let go.. your life, relationships, and job start to fall apart when you don't let the things go and keep picking it back up...
I am kind of surprised that this is not even 3.5 stars. I thought the character development was fantastic, the story was such a dark spiral befitting the name, and a great character driven novel. Yes this is a dark, sad and at times very depressing story but that is what makes it so good and realistic.
I love #Gillian Flynn books and this one could have been written by her...it was that well done! Gather your courage and read this!!!

Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this early but it was so hard to read…there wasn’t 1 likeable character except for Wolfie and the story was really hard to digest. It just kept getting more and more unbelievable and horrible. There was a lot of potential at various time but it just didn’t do it. There were parts that I just didn’t like, which was most of it and I wanted to stop but I thought that I’d give it a chance by finishing it. Nope, not worth it. I give 2 ⭐️ for Kate Brody’s type of writing as it was suspenseful and gripping, I just really didn’t like the story.

Unfortunately couldn't finish this one cause i thought it was dragging a lot and i lost interest in the story

This is an interesting novel, but the "slow burn" is too slow of a burn for my tastes. The number of distracting parts of this puzzle really divides the reader's mind and causes confusion. In a sense, as the narrator falls down the rabbit hole, so does the reader. This disorienting approach works well in some novels, however, in this one it causes more confusion than comprehension. I did think that the writer did a good job with choosing language and description that creates an impressive mood and atmosphere.
As this was an ALC, I must note that Rebecca Quinn Robertson does a great job of narratoring this novel.

I had such high hopes for this one, but unfortunately was very disappointed.
First, this is not a thriller, it is more about the main character and how she is dealing with all the tragedy in her life. I struggle to say that there were even suspenseful parts.
Second, if you have have any issues at all with things with animals do not read this!
Third, the ending isn’t satisfying at all. The whole book I kept listening because I was hoping there would be resolution and there is not and that was so disappointing.
Thank you NetGalley for the audiobook copy of this book!

I had mixed feelings on this book. I did think the story was interesting and seeing Teddy slide down the rabbit hole, trying to figure out what happened to her family was interesting. However, I had a feeling at least somewhat about where things were going with Mickey. also just felt like the beginning with the animal abuse was hard to listen to and at some point it definitely got a little brutal / graphic for my taste.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book! Firstly, the audiobook version was really good and I'm picky about my audiobook readers. The story was dark but also powerful. The main character's journey through grief and loss and looking for answers, even in untrustworthy places, was so palpable I felt like I was feeling them with her. The writing was great and the story will stick with me for a long time.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced audiobook copy.
I enjoyed the narrator of this book I would listen to anything that she narrates As for the book it was OK but the ending left me wanting more
