Holly Jackson's YA works have been nothing if not captivating and, from the title alone, I knew this would be no exception to the rule. From the beginning you know that a bombshell is going to drop for our main character as her mother, who has not yet made her appearance, will, inevitably, reappear in her life. Navigating the difficult nature of readjusting to a life that has moved on without your presence, Rachel Price is clearly hiding something though we, the reader, and Bel don't even begin to know what. The nature of telling this story through the lens of a documentary surrounding the case was so unique and added to the unreliable nature of numerous characters who were clearly not revealing all of their internal motivations. A title I have and will continue to recommend, especially for fans of thriller adjacent mysteries!

Holly Jackson has me in a chokehold once again! What else is new!! This book gave me the exact same feeling I had when I first tore through "A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder". I was completely hooked from page one, couldn’t stop reading, totally obsessed.

What I love most is that it didn’t feel like she was just trying to recreate that series. This one stands on its own in the best way, and I really appreciated that.

The pacing? Perfect. The twists? Also perfect. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Holly got me again and flipped the whole thing on me. I genuinely didn’t predict the ending and it was so satisfying when everything came together.

Honestly, if you’re into YA mystery at all, this one needs to go straight to the top of your TBR. I would recommend it to literally anyone who wants a quick, can’t-put-it-down read.

Whew… this book was a rollercoaster! I was against Rachel throughout this WHOLE book. And I think I still might be against her now that I’ve read the whole thing! Honestly… I think everyone is horrible person in their own way in this! lol. All I need to know is HOLLY ARE WE GETTING A SECOND BOOK?! The way it ended I just neeeeeeed to know what happened after the ending! I really liked this book. I usually like everything Holly writes so that’s no surprise! There was ALOT of extra info thrown in that kind of confused me or felt unnecessary but it still didn’t fully take away from it being just an all around good book! Can’t wait for that announcement on the second book tho!

This was so fun! Bel has grown up as the only person who witnessed what happened the night her mother vanished. Now there is a documentary about Rachel Price and Bel is not happy to be part of it. Then Rachel Price reappears. Is her story believable? Bel isn’t sure if she can believe it and then what does that mean about where her mother has been… so was twisty and fun and I was on the edge of my seat!

Holly Jackson’s The Reappearance of Rachel Price is a gripping and emotionally charged thriller that taps into her signature style of high-stakes mystery with a contemporary edge. The premise is instantly compelling: a teenage girl’s mother, long presumed dead, suddenly reappears just as a true crime documentary begins filming. Jackson does a great job building suspense and exploring the emotional fallout of such a shocking event, especially through the lens of Bel, the teen protagonist whose world is thrown into chaos. The book delivers plenty of twists and tension, and fans of Jackson’s work will find much to enjoy. That said, the plot does feel more convoluted than her previous novels, and some of the twists require a bit more suspension of disbelief than usual. It lacks the tight pacing and clean execution that made A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder such a standout. Still, even if it’s not her strongest book, The Reappearance of Rachel Price is an engaging and addictive read that will keep readers turning pages until the very end.

DNF @ 20% — I honestly couldn’t get into this book. There were no surprises, no resolution and the whole story was very predictable and dull.

Thank you to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for this eARC. All thoughts are honest and my own.

I really wanted to love this, as I adored A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. The pacing just felt really off in this one, and the story too unbelievable. I felt like I was forcing myself through a lot of the book, just to figure out what happened. But, as the answers started to be revealed, I hard a difficult time suspending disbelief. It could be a case of it just wasn't the right time for me to read this book, however I wasn't really feeling this one. I will definitely give this author another chance, though, so hopefully I will connect better with the books I read in the future.

A fun and interesting twist in the YA thriller genre! I enjoyed seeing this author's attempt on a new kind of story, I didn't enjoy it as much as her first trilogy but still found it to be a good read.

While I did enjoy my time with this book, there were some gripes I had while reading it. First, I thought it was incredibly repetitive at times which caused the book to be about 100 pages longer than what it needed to be. I also found the main character of Bel to be almost completely insufferable. I understand this is YA and obviously this girl has gone through some things, but I almost wanted to smack her in the face throughout the entire first 80% of the book. I think the reader had to suspend so much belief by the end of the book that it almost completely took me out of the story. While that sounds like a lot of negative, I actually did enjoy reading it for the most part. I thought the plot moved fairly quickly and it certainly kept me interested. The ending was just almost too out of the box to be believable, but I still had a fun time reading it. For this reason, I give this book 3 stars for keeping me entertained.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.

Holly Jackson is very talented when it comes to writing mystery/thrillers. While this one didn’t top AGGGTM for me, it was still good.

This book follows the disappearance of Rachel Price, as her daughter Bel tries to discover what happened. I love most of the other books I’ve read by Holly Jackson but this one was not my personal favorite. I found it kind of boring in the first half but then the story line picked up closer to the end and was more thrilling.

So much happened in this book. My expectations were sky-high—some were met, others not quite—but overall, this was an absolutely captivating experience, one I know I’ll want to revisit again.

There’s just something about Holly Jackson’s writing that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. I can’t pick up one of her books without becoming completely consumed by it. Her prose is sharp, immersive, and atmospheric in a way that makes everything else fade into the background. From the very first page, I knew I was in for a wild ride—and I wasn’t wrong. If I’d had the time, I would’ve devoured it in one sitting. Even when I wasn’t reading, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Her storytelling was etched into my mind.

The heart of this story is Annabel “Bel” Price, and let me tell you—what a phenomenal protagonist. She’s clever, sharp-tongued, and not afraid to speak her mind. Characters like Bel are rare: flawed, complex, emotionally layered, and refreshingly unapologetic. Her voice made me laugh, made me frustrated, made me feel, and I loved how quick-witted she was—always ready with a retort, never backing down. Holly Jackson excels at crafting messy, real characters, and Bel is one of her best yet.

The plot? Impeccably constructed. The way Holly layered clues, red herrings, interviews, transcripts, and notes was masterful. Writing a thriller that keeps readers engaged, constantly second-guessing themselves, and still manages to surprise is no easy feat—and she pulled it off. There’s so much thought behind every twist, every reveal, and even when I thought I had something figured out, she threw me off with another twist I didn’t see coming. The pacing was tight, the suspense was palpable, and the payoff was genuinely satisfying—well, mostly.

The one reason I’m not giving this a full five stars is that I managed to predict one of the major twists a little too early. Instead of feeling clever, it left me slightly underwhelmed. That said, Holly still managed to completely blindside me with a later reveal that made my jaw drop—and made me realize just how well she planted the clues all along.

A quick note for fans of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder: romance is very minimal in this book. There are a few sweet moments and bits of banter, but the focus remains firmly on the mystery. And honestly? It works. The twists, tension, and emotional weight of the story easily carry it without needing a strong romantic subplot.

In the end, The Reappearance of Rachel Price is another gem from Holly Jackson—a compelling, clever, and tightly wound thriller that proves once again why she’s at the top of the YA mystery game.

OKAY, I did like this book but I didn't love it as much as I've loved others by this author. I found it to be something I can recommend to my students and other reader friends who enjoy YA, and it's a solid mystery to solve.

I’ll be honest—I was completely drawn in from the start and really enjoyed it. The story kicked off with a strong, intriguing premise that immediately grabbed my attention. That said, I felt the execution didn’t quite live up to its potential.

The pacing dragged at times, and some of the middle chapters felt like filler. Maybe that’s just because my expectations were different going in. Still, I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an engaging and compelling read. All in all, it was a worthwhile experience.

Determined to figure out the disappearance of her mother, Abel agrees to be a part of true crime documentary about the disappearance of Rachel Price. Bel was only a toddler when her mother vanished even though she was the last person to see her. While filming this documentary Rachel suddenly shows up. We learn more about why Rachel disappeared throughout the story and why she’s suddenly returned.

In typically murder mystery fashion, most of the characters motives and stories were questionable throughout the entire book. The story was really slow paced for my liking but I did enjoy the concept of the story.

I went into this book without any prior knowledge and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was set in my home state of New Hampshire. I always enjoy reading stories set in familiar places, even when they’re fictional. The Reappearance of Rachel Price was well-written, which comes as no surprise given Black’s talent as an author. However, I found the plot unengaging. I’m unsure how this story made it to publication without addressing its major plot holes, which were jarring and made for a confusing reading experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I did not see the ending coming, but when it was revealed it was clear the author had placed many discreet breadcrumbs along the way. From my perspective, the novel was focused on the YA genre, so it did not include a lot of sexual or graphic content, while still having an intense and engaging plot. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers.
