Rachel Price went missing 16 years ago. The only witness was her young daughter, Bel, who has no memory of what happened. The case is brought back into the light when the family agrees to do a true crime documentary. Everything changes for the family when Rachel Price reappears after all this time.
As a fan of Holly Jackson’s, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Series, I found the story very easy to get into. The story kept the twists and turns coming and had you wondering almost the whole time of what really happened. The one drawback for me was at the beginning is I felt like there were too many characters introduced too fast. However, the characters were easy to like and I found myself rooting for several of them. Overall, I really enjoyed myself while reading this book.

This was an incredible thriller full of great twists. I had no idea who to trust until the end. Highly recommend for teens and adults alike!

“Everyone left, eventually…People were temporary.”
This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions—even if that is technically a cliché. I stayed up late, unable to put this book down, needing to know the truth. Needing to know what happened. Nearly as much as Bel did.
Bel’s mom disappeared sixteen years ago and then while they’re in the middle of filming a documentary about her disappearance, she mysterious Rachel Price magically reappears again. But even once everything is out on the table, Bel still feels as though secrets are being kept from her left and right.
An amateur detective story about the secrets some families keep, this book will grip you both in its suspenseful nature and in the heartstrings of a little girl who just doesn’t want to feel abandoned anymore.
Holly has a way of writing these stories where it doesn’t even matter how long they are, because you’ll fly through them in 24 hours anyway. If you haven’t picked up any of Holly Jackson’s books yet… do yourself a favor and start now.
“The people who loved you, the ones who really cared, they would always come back.”

Another great story from Holly Jackson. This book is longer (400+ pages) and while that usually means there is a lot of fluff, this book utilizes every small detail to pay off the plot. I really enjoyed the family dynamics and the changing of loyalty throughout the book. Great read.

To be completely honest, I haven't had a great track record of reading this author. But, the idea for this sounded really interesting to me. As this is a mystery/thriller, I won't give away too much because honestly the less you know the more enjoyable this will probably be for you. Essentially, the main character (Bel)'s mother mysteriously disappeared sixteen years ago, and Bel has been living in the shadow of her mother's disappearance ever since. Then, her life is all mucked up again when the Price family agrees to a documentary about Rachel's disappearance and suddenly Rachel reappears with an implausible story about where she's been. Etc. etc. etc.
I honestly didn't completely dislike this one, like I have some of Jackson's other novels, but I did find myself having a hard time focusing on this story because the plot just really wasn't grabbing me. I pushed through, though, and the ending was just...weird.
TLDR: This was too long, needed a bit better execution of the idea, and had a wacky ending.

I had previously loved Holly Jackson's first trilogy, so I was eager to start her latest. It started out great but the ending got a bit too wacky for my tastes.

The Reappearance of Rachel Price is Holly Jackson at her best! This is a 5 star read and one I recommend wholeheartedly. So many layers, nuanced and well fleshed out characters. I kept on flip-flopping on who did it and who's side I was on. Happy release week to this gem! Jackson just is magic when it comes to YA thriller/mysteries.

Thank you so so so so much to NetGalley, Random House, AND THE Holly Jackson for the ARC. I love y’all so much.
Publication Date: April 2nd, 2024 (ITS OUT. GO GET IT)
This was a 5 star 100%. It was a bit slow at the beginning but queen Holly Jackson made up for it.
The plot was everything. It was such A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder esque book with a documentary spin to it. I was on the edge of my seat and had to put the book down to really think about my own theories. (Which were kind of right)
The plot twists were everything I needed and more. My jaw was on the ground at one of the bigger ones.
Get this book right now. Read everything else Holly has to offer. I will be a Holly Jackson fan for the rest of my life.

Wow! What a wild journey! Those twists though are whiplash-worthy!
Rachel Price was last seen on security footage with her then-toddler Bel never to be seen again. Rachel's car was on the side of the road running with the heater on and Bel buckled in the back seat but no sign of Rachel. It's been sixteen years since the disappearance and Bel along with her family are working with a producer to do a documentary about the disappearance of Rachel Price. Bel is having a hard time with the documentary because there is always speculation about her father. Upset she takes off and on the way home she finds her, she finds Rachel. Thinking she is seeing a ghost she runs home without looking back, and soon there is a knock on the door, and it's Rachel. Rachel is back. Bel calls her dad and tells him to get home and when he does his face pales the police find out and they eventually make a press release about the reappearance. However, Bel is bothered by her mother she knows she's lying about something. There are inconsistencies in Rachel's story about where she was at those sixteen years and other things that are bothering Bel. Then, her father disappears and she starts investigating Rachel she knows something is not right. Once she has that thread she pulls it until family secrets start slowly coming out and once they do there is no turning back! Wow! This one had me hooked until the very end! It was soo good! Holly really outdid herself writing this one! I loved it! Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing for the extraordinaire opportunity to read and review this one! It was a wild treat!

I always been a fan of Holly Jackson books, so I was thrilled to read her newest book, The Reappearance of Rachel Price. I am sorry to say, but I couldn't finished this book. I read up to 50%, and I just wasn't vibe with it. The plot wasn't capturing my attention enough. I kept drifting away.

Holly Jackson never fails with her awesome and twisty mysteries. I loved this book, it was so fun and intriguing and as always with Holly’s books, I was still shocked by the ending after assuming I had known what was going on. The reason this isn’t five stars for me is because I thought the second half of the book felt much more rushed then the first and was also disappointed in the romance plot line which I thought could’ve been better executed. Overall though such a fun book and I will definitely recommend!

I thought this was a cool premise for a book and I enjoyed how the documentary crew gave the book a true crime feel. Overall, I liked this book but I felt like it was just a bit too long. This made the pacing feel off, especially in the first half, which dragged on for me. After about 65% through the book, I started to get a bit more invested in the mystery and the characters, but until that point I had a hard time connecting to Bel as a main character.

Thank you to the publisher, PRH Audio and netgalley for my review copies of the book. All opinions are my own.
This was a page turner. A great story, and a great Murder Mystery for the YA lovers.
The book revolves about Bel, and her mom's disappearance 16 years prior. Someone decides to make a documentary about the mystery, and the family. As the cameras are rolling, Rachel Price reenters the picture. And now Bel is sure there are lies involved, and her mom is in the center of it all. She decides to sleuth through this mystery herself, and maybe finally figure out what happened that one faithful day.
There were a lot of twists and turns and jaw dropping moments. The writing is superb, and the story flowed easily,, Though I question the ending and the choices made, this book made for an entertaining and a fast read.

DNF at 45%. The Reappearance of Rachel Price had an interesting premise. 16 years ago, Rachel vanished without a trace leaving her 2 year old daughter Annabel (Bel) in a car on the side of the road. Annabel has grown up with her dad and her mother’s disappearance has always been a weight on them. It’s a main focus again now as the family agreed to participate in a documentary. And then Rachel shows up. She says she doesn’t know where she’s been - that she was kept in a basement and then was let go. Bel doesn’t think her story is adding up.
I was so intrigued by this synopsis and was really interested to see how it would go. Unfortunately the execution really didn’t work for me - mostly in how unlikable Bel is made out to be. I understand that it’s been tough for her but seeing her be selfish and rude and mean to everyone in her life over and over and over really began to wear on me until I ultimately decided to stop reading. I’ll skim ahead to see what really happened to Rachel but this one wasn’t for me. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the free ebook to review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for this ARC!
I’m a huge fan of Hollys other books so I was excited to read this one. I think this one started off super strong and kept my attention until about 50%. It didn’t really pick up again until 80% and then I was fully invested.
All and all, I think this was a good YA thriller but I didn’t love the twists. It may be from me reading too many thrillers, so I think others will enjoy this one!

The Reappearance of Rachel Price is an interesting mystery/thriller about a young girl’s search for the truth about her family. The story follows 18-year-old Annabel (Bel) Price whose mother disappeared after the two of them entered a mall. Bel was found, but her mother, Rachel, was not. Years later a documentary is being made about Rachel, which sets Bel off on an adventure to discover the truth. As Bel was only 2 when Rachel disappeared, she doesn’t remember the details. When Rachel’s side of the story is revealed, it is up to Bel to figure out what is truth and what is fictional.
The writing does a great job at balancing between the documentary style and reality. Rachel’s disappearance is at the center of many true crime podcasts and message boards as many people want to know the truth. There is an interesting contrast between those on the outside and Bel’s side who lived through it. Jackson did a great job at providing enough information without giving away the ending. The characters were easy to connect with and I enjoyed all of them even if they weren’t as likable. The puzzle laid out in the story was nicely done and I enjoy Jackson’s writing style. I think I must give Jackson a ton of credit as there were minor flaws throughout, but they weren’t enough to add up to any actual issues. I am not sure if this was a right time/right place scenario, masterful writing, or a mix of both, but this story definitely made me intrigued to read a lot more from Jackson in the future.
**I give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Delacorte Press, for the opportunity to read this entertaining novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**

I loved Five Survive! So when I saw Holly Jackson was coming out with a new book, I knew I had to read it! This book was good, but not as good as her previous books. It’s long and a bit slow. I felt like the final pieces all come together too well in the end. It was very twisty, but I bet predictable. I don’t want to say too much and give anything away. It’s best to go in blind!

Ever since I read Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, I have been a huge fan of her writing and jump at the chance to read a book of hers. Jackson’s latest YA Thriller reinforces that decision as she has once again written a book that kept me guessing what was going to happen next, questioning everything I was being shown, finding myself completely blindsided in the best way possible with what the truth about everything was and an ending that was beyond satisfying.
While it took me a bit to warm up to Bel as I found her to be an abrasive character, as I delved into the history of her mother’s disappearance and was slowly introduced to the rest of the price family and the ways in which they interacted and responded to one another, I slowly began to understand why she was the way that she was. Bel was such a complex character who I both loved and wanted to slap at the same time. She was unbelievably smart, to the point that she was stubborn and suffered from tunnel vision. She was so determined to prove that Rachel was lying and had to be evil, that it never entered mind to question all sides of the situation.
This book was both a journey of finding out the truth about Rachel as well as one of Bel discovering who she is and that she shares more with her Mom other than their just her looks and voice. It’s a book that re-solidified my belief that Holly Jackson is one of the best modern writers of Young Adult Thrillers and I cannot wait to see what she comes out with next.

Finally a new book from the queen who brought us A Good Girl's Guide to Murder! If you are like me, you have probably been waiting for this since you devoured Five Survive.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price follows Bel, a teenager whose family is known for her mother's mysterious cold case disappearance 16 years prior. Everyone in the town, including Bel and her dad, believe that Rachel Price must be dead and have moved on to the best of their ability. There is a new documentary coming out about the case and Bel is sitting front and center in front of the camera - at her dad's request. But one day, as Bel heads home from filming, Rachel reappears in shabby clothes and an incredible story. Bel is skeptical of her once-missing mom though, and devotes herself to uncovering the truth about her disappearance.
This book sucked me in right from the beginning. True crime has taken the nation by storm and many of us cannot wait for the next big true crime doc to drop. This book scratches that itch with a story stranger than fiction, a cast of characters that all have secrets to hide, and a really determined FMC to take us through the mystery.
Bel written by any other author would have gotten on my nerves. This girl is no Pippa Fitz-Amobi - she's angsty, angry, and seems to believe that the world owes her something because of the trauma her family went through after the disappearance of her mother. Despite this, though, Jackson weaves enough emotion into Bel to make her sympathetic - I think, especially to an older reader. By the end of the book, I wanted to give Bel a hug and tell her that her life really wouldn't be a recounting of the same trauma forever.
The other characters are equally outrageous and charming, including a somewhat sleazy filmmaker, a dad with a heart of gold (but maybe also a trove of secrets), and a cameraman with questionable fashion sense. The pacing is steady and will keep the reader entertained with side adventures and red herrings abound. I think this is most comparable to As Good as Dead from Jackson's bibliography, with the same urgent sense of danger and the somewhat shockingly violent overtones. This book, especially the ending, is not for the faint of heart.
I'm extremely grateful to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to start this book before release day. It really was a treat of a read.
