This book is as deep as a river. You are confronted by the horrors inflicted upon African Americans in preabolition south. You are entranced by the mythos of Africa as it echos through the descendants of peoples enslaved. It is as magical as a wish that comes true. This is a brilliantly written book, a deep world of hope, wishes and community. of piecing back together lives, love and forgiving past sins. This book entertains but it also makes you think deeply. I couldn't read it all in one sitting. I had to digest chunks of it first. Beautiful book just really well written.

The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.
