"The third [book] in a series usually isn't that great."

That's a quote directly from this book and sums up my thoughts.

In fact, this was such a let down and a horrible way to end the Millie and Enzo story but I'd never read another even if Freida McFadden tried to redeem the couple. Their move to Long Island and description of their lives in the new neighborhood 11 years into married life with two children was slow, boring, and deadly dull. Everything fun about Millie and Enzo is way gone.

Right when things start to be not OK in their marriage, with their kids, and because of the weird neighbors, they don't talk to each other? Come on Millie and Enzo. You two have been through everything and now they have problems and their interaction was terrible. No one for an instant thought Enzo was doing anything bad so how could Millie even entertain any ridiculous suspicions even though Enzo was acting like a total idiot.

Then the big reveal and that's when this narrative went totally off the rails from semi interesting to ridiculous, over the top, and completely unbelievable. A sting of coincidences that strains credulity. Everything could have turned out differently if the people in the family would have talked to each other. The worst part of the book for me was when Ada took over the narrative point of view. I also quit reading and DNF but I guess I wanted to torture myself just a bit more. My advice: if you're thinking that you want more of the Millie exploits and are tempted to read this, just give it a hard pass and remember her how she was.

I listened to the audio book while also following along in the e-book ARC provided by the publisher. I had to wait a long time for the audio format to come up at the library so that's why I am reading so late after publication. The main narrator, Lauryn Allman, voices the character of Millie and she does a fantastic job with the accent. Her performance has always made that character come to life and seemed to embody the spirit of Millie. Ina Marie Smith is the second narrator.

This was a good way to continue Millie (and her family's) story!! I loved how the character has aged, along with Enzo and the kids. Bit i was hoping for more of a bad ass version of her and it didn't pan out that way. It wasn't as exciting as the first two books...Millie did a LOT of just....well,,, WATCHING and not much acting, which made for a sllloooww read at times. Just ok, but good if you like the series. 3 stars! Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC!

The Housemaid Is Watching is a fast-paced, twisty thriller that keeps you guessing. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, something else throws you off. It’s addictive, suspenseful, and hard to put down. A solid pick if you’re in the mood for a quick psychological thriller.

Freida McFadden books are always a delight. I remember loving "The Housemaid," and I enjoyed this one just as much. I haven't yet had a chance to read the second book in the series, "The Housemaid's Secret," but although I still plan to read it because I'm sure I'll love it too, it is not necessary to have read either of the two previous books to understand and enjoy this book. There's just enough background provided, although it never is overdone. The plot in engaging throughout and the main characters are likable. The ending is quite satisfying, and there's a nice twist too! I actually listened to the audiobook rather than read the book, and both narrators were great. Many thanks to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an e-ARC of this book.

Sometimes I don't know what to expect regarding the third book in a series. The Housemaid Is Watching was fantastic. I didn't like it quite as much as the first two books but it held my interest and I could not go to sleep until I finished reading !! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

Oftentimes by the third book in a series I am kind of bored -- however, this is an exception! I did not expect to like this book as much as I did and I am sad to see the series come to a close. If you loved Millie in the first two books, you will love her in this one!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC.

Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press & NetGalley for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, Freida McFadden. Some of her stuff is surprisingly good. Some, not so much. For me, this fell somewhere in between. I didn't read the first two in this series but I figured I'd pick up most of what I'd missed, and I think (?) that I was correct. What I got is that Millie is a bad person who has been trying to go straight and live a normal life, but (of course) finds herself surrounded by bad people. Or, at least, worse people than she is. Or maybe just bad, but in a different way. Murder is worse than adultery, right?

Ultimately, the books pends a lot of time on the daily life of Millie & Enzo and their kids. Those parts of fairly boring, I guess Freida was going for a slow burn. We get a lot of situations in which Millie's preconceived notions about people lead her astray (I feel like that happens in most McFadden books) and then we get PLOT TWISTS in a minor format, all setting the stage for the MAJOR PLOT TWIST that you know is coming down the line.

Not her worst, and certainly written in her simple, 5th grade vocab style that the masses seem to love - 3 stars. Meh

This one wasn't as exciting at the last 2. It really didn't have to do with Millie a lot she didn't even kill anyone. And it jumped a lot and all the sudden she has 2 kids.

Love this series -took me a while to realize most characters circle around! I love it! Nothing else comes to mind… just keep them coming! Love all the plot twist.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fredia her books are so fast paced for me I typically get her reads and finish them in one sitting. I am unsure as to why it is but as the Housemaid series has gone on though I love each one just a little less. Book one hands down will always be a heart felt favorite sitting aside Verity by Colleen Hoover for me but this one was just not the best. I think at this point Enzo will always be good looking! I am not a fan of women like Suzette so perhaps that is what turned me away.

The third book in the Housemaid series follows a similar pattern where you know there is a murder, but you don't know the identity of the victim or the murderer. After a fair amount of buildup, you discover who the victim is, but then the twists keep coming until the real murderer stands up, and it is quite twisty and suspenseful. Millie is now a wife and mother of two children. She finally married Enzo! They just bought a house in the suburbs on Long Island (never say in Long Island), but Millie, never gets to live a normal life with normal neighbors. This is another well done thriller from Freida McFadden.

My thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ecopy. My opinion is my own.

This book started our promising but I felt like the majority of it was exposition. It really did not feel like a thriller to me.

Every book by Freida McFadden is better than the last. This book completed the series in an amazing way. I was immediately captured in the story. There were times where I couldn't breath or read fast enough! McFadden is my go to author when I need a heart palpitating book.

This was a little too formulaic and parts were unbelievable. There weren’t any characters in this book that are likable.
The ending was too neatly tied up and everyone was able to go on with their lives. I haven’t read the first two books but I feel like this 3rd book might be pushing this storyline and character too far.

Very similar to the other housemaid books. The book was overall ok but not the best mystery book out there. If you enjoy Frieda and don't mind all of her books being the same, then I would Encourage you to read it. If you are over Frieda then I would Suggest skipping it.

Freida does it again! She is a masterful thriller writer. I'll admit, at first, it started off slow and then slowly I got more intrigued in part one. Millie's life has really changed as a wife and mom, so it's good to see her evolve as she got older. When Millie started to have problems with Nico, I suspected that he committed the act. I was completely shocked to find out who it really was. I also didn't know if I could truly believe Enzo or not, but; Freida is great at painting the perfect picture that everyone is not what they seem. If you've read any of the Housemaid series (or any of Freida's books) you know that there is always a shocking revelation in the last few chapters, and this one is no exception. If you want a book that's going to play with all of your emotions, this is it! You're in for a wild, but thrilling ride.

I appreciated receiving the early opportunity to read McFadden’s third Housemaid novel. I read the other two also and found them entertaining, but more like madcap satires of mysteries than true crime thrillers or police procedurals, my preferred genres. In fact, I classify these as Women’s Fiction, not Mystery and Suspense. But I read it anyway, and got really tired of the caricature portrayal of the neighbor women. Then when the murder was finally presented, I didn’t think the plot held together well. The way she described Mr. Lowell’s strange behavior wasn’t very clear. I wasn’t wowed by the author’s formulaic turnaround twist, though it was unexpected. All said though, fans will likely love this.
