Frieda McFadden books are always a quick read! Always love her twists and turns in her thrillers. This book was a fun, quick read.

The Inmate was a fast read for me. I wanted to find out who was bad and if anyone was good. The author sure had me fooled throughout. This thriller was in no way predictive, even though other reviewers beg to differ.
Brooke Sullivan, has returned to her childhood home with her fifth grade son after her parents both die in a car accident. Brooke has grown up a lot since leaving home. Moving from the busy city and cramped apartment in Queens to her large childhood home in a close knit community seems ideal. And… Josh can get away from the bullies that tormented him at his school in Queens. Brooke is a nurse practitioner, and quite a compassionate one, but she’s having trouble finding a job. It seems no clinic will give her a callback. Then 45 minutes away she lands a position in a men’s maximum security prison called Raker the same name as her hometown. Now here is where I begin to question Brooke’s smarts. Her ex-boyfriend, from her teen years, Shane Nelson, is incarcerated in that jail for life. Brooke’s testimony is what put him there. . 10 years ago she had relations with Shane and now eleven year old Josh is the result. His father Shane is in jail for life charged with multiple murders and Brooke’s attempted murder.

Shunned by her parents because she wouldn’t terminate the pregnancy, she is now creating a new life with her pride and joy, living in her childhood home and sleeping in the parents bedroom. She has never told Shane or anyone except her parents that she bore Shane’s child. After all this happened eleven years ago, when she young and stupid. Due to her judgement decisions, she hasn’t grown out of the stupid part.

The narrative moves from the past to the present adding to the drama of the mysteries surrounding Brooke and her friends. It was the 11 ago period when Tim and Chelsea, had a weekend planned at Shane’s house without any parents knowing. The weekend starts with six seventeen year olds, mixed with alcohol, where half of them end up dead.

After her bold move to Raker, She meets up with her best friend from years ago, Tim Reese. They’ve been friends since their diaper days. Tim gets along great with her son Josh, and soon Tim and Brooke start dating. But as she starts thinking about what happened that night and odd incidences in their renewed relationship occur, she starts doubting what really happened and who killed her friends so many years ago. Did she get it wrong? Could Shane be innocent? Poor girl is so dumb and confused and has no one to turn to.

Brooke also claims her snowflake necklace was the attempted murder weapon. I don’t own a necklace that wouldn’t break before it could strangle the life out of me. Now Mr. T’s necklace maybe. Still it’s a great read!

But wait until the epilogue which was a shocker! I highly recommend The Inmate and this author, Frieda McFadden

Another good thriller from Freida McFaddan. Full of twists that you don't see coming. And then she throws in a final twist in the Epilogue. I recommend this one if you're looking for a quick and entertaining read.. Four stars.

This is my first Freida McFadden book and I think I am now a fan. I like a good psychological thriller when I can't figure out "who done it". I love books with a lot of twists and turns and this definitely had that. I did like the main character, Brooke, but I didn't like how back and forth she was. I thought I knew who the killer was and I guess was partially right but the ending was a total shocker.

"The Inmate” by Freida McFadden was another 5-star read by one of my favorite authors! Brooke Sullivan is struggling to find a job and settles for a position as a nurse practitioner at a maximum-security prison. Shortly after starting there, she treats Shane Nelson after he was attacked by his fellow inmates. Shane is not just any prisoner though; he's her ex-boyfriend from high school. He became her ex the night he tried to kill her. Will Shane try to finish what he started, or was she wrong about what really happened eleven years ago?

The story alternates between Brooke in the present day and eleven years ago. It introduces some twists along the way, some more surprising than others. I was completely caught off guard by the final surprise. Overall, it was a great story, and if you are a fan of Freida McFadden, then you have to read “The Inmate”.

The Inmate is a psychological thriller that is interesting. Brooke becomes a nurse practitioner at a prison. She has rules she is supposed to follow and no-one knows that she has already broken one. She and a hard core prisoner, Shane, have a long history together than includes a red hot romance. She doesn't tell anyone about it and wants it to stay a secret. The problem is that Shane is manipulative and controls her through the threat that he holds over her.

I mean it’s Freida need I say more????

I will say I am usually very good at figuring out a mystery before the end of the book and I was not able to piece it all together before I got there. So I tip my hat to you!!

The internal waffling between it was you, no it’s you that ruled my life while reading this was crazy!!!

All in all she’s got the magical formula of book sitting down to a science and I can’t wait to pick up another book by her!!

Thanks so much for the chance to read another McFadden book. I'll say this one was not my favorite, although there were several really great twists. The main female character drove me crazy in this one flipping back and forth. Overall it was decent and a fairly quick read. I wanted to get through to see how it ended. And even though I knew something was going to happen I didn't figure out exactly what the last twist was until the very end. I appreciated the opportunity to read this one as I do love this author.

Who would have guessed that the lives of a prisoner, a teacher/principal, and a nurse would be intertwined and how right and wrong our memories are! Such a great read!

I love Freida's books which are amazing I started with the housemaid and had to keep going.

I saw this book and instantly knew I had to read it. Brooke Sullivan is a nurse practitioner and has just started a new job at a maximum security prison. It also is where her ex-boyfriend is currently locked up. Interesting very interesting!

I switched back and forth between who was the killer but still didn't see the ending coming!

Some parts I did feel were a little bit slow but overall really enjoyed this book which is why it's 3.5 stars.

The Inmate follows our main character Brooke navigate life back in her hometown. Brooke experienced many traumatic life experiences, the biggest one causing her high school boyfriend to land in prison. This prison happens to be the prison she just got hired at.

I enjoyed trying to figure out the twists in this book! Some of them seemed a bit cliche (loss of cell service and a storm that cuts power), but that’s the fun of it. I was really rooting for Brooke to come out of all of this unscathed. I didn’t have strong feelings for any other characters, mainly because they all seemed angry at each other in some parts and cahoots in other parts. I feel like the big twist we saw at the end felt like it came out of left field and got resolved too quickly. Then again, I did enjoy it and would read another book from this author.

It was an anxious start that had me felt nerve-wrecking and thinking what I have gotten myself into. The desire to stop is there as well as the anticipation on what is to come. As I flipped the pages, I slowly find it to sound a little like Sarah Michelle Gellar's 'I know what you did last summer' LOL!!! However, the more it progressed, the more confused I was on who did it?! Thankfully it's the e version so I couldn't just flip to the back to know how it ends :-)

I liked the clarity of the story, how it was written and identified past or present day. This novel does go back and forth in order to know what happened before and after. The author sure knows how to keep us guessing and guessing, without giving much away, only little nibling bits here and there! I am surprised at how it ended, not knowing who to believe from when it happened and then the unexpected suddenly pop-up! I was pleasantly surprised with the actual outcome!

I liked the overall premise of this novel though it isn't as dark or sinister, yet it was troubling and scary. I have only read her other novel, The Coworker, so I can't compare this with any of the author's work, but I did enjoy this one with a different depth to it. If you are looking for a mindboggling read, The Inmate is a good one to try from Freida McFadden.

Freida McFadden has quickly became one of my favorite authors. I started with The Housemaid and quickly started reading all of her books. They are addicting & always end up surprising me which is a nice change from thrillers that you always end up guessing the ending to! This is another great book by this author! Highly recommend!

Man this was good… the twisted mind of Freida McFadden never disappoints.

I thought I had it figured out.. but I did not.

The first chapter hooked me with the very last sentence. Then all I could think about was finishing this book.

This was a great thriller mystery. It is about a women who works at a prison where her ex who happened to be convicted of an attack against her. I was like it’s gonna be that guy then another and the twists kept coming. I couldn’t put it down. And the epilogue I didn’t see coming.

Excellent thriller! Past mysteries meet with the present in The Inmate. I thought I knew who the killer was going to be, but was totally surprised towards the end! Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy

I LOVED this thriller, i love all of her books but this is in my top 2 of my favorite ones I’ve read by her. The premise was very unique to me, and there were plot twists and turns that i just could not guess. This was a 4.5 stars for me!

I LOVE ALL of Freida's books. I have read so many and they never disappoint.
However, this book was not my favorite, which was very upsetting.
I still enjoyed this one though! I loved the mystery and thriller aspect of this book. I read this book in under 24 hours and it kept me entertained!

I thoroughly enjoy ALL of Freida's books! Some more than others, but overall, all of her books are extremely gripping. I love the short chapters and the "left on the edge of my seat" feeling after reading each chapter. Plus, I love how she is a master of making you think you have figured it out, but have not. I half figured this one out, but I didn't figure out the connection to the half I had figured out (if that makes sense)
Highly recommend this book and many others by this Author. She is a true genius of her craft and I look forward to The Boyfriend and the 3rd installment of the Housemaid series - The Housemaid is Watching! Keep knocking em out so your loyal readers can keep devouring em Freida!!!

Alright...unpopular opinion maybe, but I didn't fw this book at all. 2.5 stars.

Our girly is freakin delusional and is the worst fucking judge of character. All the men in her life are creepy and weird and she should seriously just stay on her own and do her own thing. Idc who the "bad guy" was in this story because they all seemed off to me and gave me the ICK.

Another issue I had was right off the bat a MALE MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON hires a girl who has a massive connection to an inmate??!?! No. Just no. This is completely unrealistic and no matter how desperate a prison is they would never hire her irl. Particularly because this is a smaller town and so many people know her...I just can't.

I'm also very upsetti spaghetti because of the ending. That twist was so unnecessary and kind of made me bummed out.

I'm going to keep trying this author because her other books do seem great so this hasn't ruined me for good. I just really hope they're better than this one (sorry!!).
