Felt like this was a fine thriller. I have read a few others and I didn’t love this one but I didn’t think it was awful. It was a quick listen.

“The Inmate” ‘s fast pace succeeded in keeping me hooked from start to finish. Not once did I felt boredom and I eagerly read the end wanting to know the plot twist.
However, despite the fast pace, this novel ultimately left me with some mixed feelings. While the novel kept me engaged and entertained throughout, I have some mixed feelings about the book overall. I found the end to be lackluster. The final moments of the story left me questioning the believability of certain elements that seems really unrealistic, not everything actually made sense to me.

Another excellent read by Freida McFadden! I love her writing style - no nonsense, grabs you immediately, and always great surprises. After you’ve been through a trauma that rocks your world, how do you ever trust your gut again? Brooke tries but is she being manipulated and if so, who is the manipulative one. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, something else surprising happens!

I’m always amazed by how into these books I get! I never want to put them down, Freida McFadden does so good at keeping you guessing. I can never fully guess what’s about to happen and then I convince myself the opposite must be happening because there’s no way I could guess it correctly. This one had me hooked from the start and I sure did NOT expect things to turn out the way they did. If you need a good thriller get into Freida McFaddens books for sure!

This book def had a twisty ending! I gave the book 3.5 stars though because although it was twisty it was so far fetched that reading it I was like this is impossible. but a great page turner, if you need a quick read and something interesting amazing pick up! I've read a lot of books by her and I def recommend

The Inmate by Freida McFadden

The guiltiest people aren't always the ones behind bars…
As a new nurse practitioner at a maximum-security prison, Brooke Sullivan is taught three crucial rules:
1. Treat all prisoners with respect.
2. Never reveal any personal information.
3. Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.
But nobody knows that Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary's most notorious and dangerous inmates.
They certainly don't know that Shane was Brooke's high school sweetheart—the star quarterback, the golden boy who's serving a life sentence for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke's testimony was what put him there.
But Shane knows. He knows more than anyone. And he will never forget.

I give this book 5 stars. I absolutely loved this book. A quick read and kept my attention from start to finish. Freida's books always keep me wanting to read and this one doesn't dissappoint. One of my favorite authors.

I received this ebook arc free from NetGalley and am voluntarily writing this review.

The Inmate⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brooke Sullivan is a nurse practitioner at a maximum security prison where her ex boyfriend and father of her child is currently serving life. After moving back to her hometown, this was the only place she could get hired. She isn’t happy with it but will do what she needs to do to make a life for her and her son, Josh. She runs into her old friend, Tim Reese, while dropping Josh off at school on the first day. They rekindle and memories are brought up of that night. While she’s falling for Tim now, Shane insisted that he was innocent and Tim was the one to watch out for. What will Brooke do? Will Josh ever know who his father? Who can you trust?

Overall, I liked this one. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite but it’s still good. I didn’t connect with Brooke as much as I’d like to and this book is mainly all in her point of view. The twist were good and it did make me question a few times who did what. I kept going back and forth between a few people. I do like how the chapters are short and easy to read.

This book will publishes on March 5, 2024. Be sure to add to your TBR list! Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for my advance readers copy. This is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Freida's books never disappoint me! This one was so good, a single mom with a tragic past moves back to her home town. Her past comes back to haunt her.

This was a quick and addictive read. I could NOT put it down! So many good twists---read the epilogue for the grand finale!!

Thank you so much NetGalley & Poisoned Pen Press for this e-book/e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was such a page turner! Right from the beginning, you get a sense of the character's history, while finding out more and more as the chapters go on. The chapters jump in time (then and now) which only gives away a little at a time... Just enough so you have no choice but trying to fill in the blanks. As a true Freida book, you never know what lies ahead. There was no point in the book where I got bored or slowed down reading it. Freida never misses!

For reasons unclear to Brooke Sullivan, she had been unable to find a job once she moved back into her childhood home with her ten-year-old son. The job she was able to get with a one-year contract was at a maximum security prison. The prison has a few rules, one of which is not to become too friendly with the inmates. This definitely might become a problem for Brooke because, as a nurse practitioner, she can't dictate which prisoners she will come in contact with. This could be quite problematic for Brooke as her high school sweetheart, Shane Nelson, is one of the prisoners, and she played a key role in his sentencing.

Watching Brooke working hard at doing her job, but also very protective of her son, the series of events in this story was more than intriguing, especially when it came to struggling to trust the different protagonists in this story. Having the story go back and forth from past to present really grabbed my attention. And then, the twists! Even though I thought I figured things out. I was truly shocked at the twists. Fabulous job, Ms. McFadden!

Many thanks to Freida McFadden, Poisoned Pen Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this e-ARC in exchange of my honest review.

This was a very quick read, and as with other Freida McFadden books, I wanted to keep reading to find out what happens. Her books are fast paced and bingeable. That being said, I believe what makes her books quick reads is also what stops me from loving them. The information provided is all very surface level which prevents me from connecting with the characters. I also felt like some of the developments didn’t make a whole lot of sense in some instances. I will say that I was not able to guess the ending!

I would recommend this book for lovers of the thriller genre that just want a quick, surface level, captivating read, with surprises you never see coming.

Great mystery thriller!
I did not want to put this one down! Murder mystery, who dun it? Was it her first love or her best friend that almost killed Brooke and killed 3 of her friends? Or was it someone else?

10 years later Brooke moves hime with her 10 yr old son to work as a nurse practitioner where her ex is a prisoner. There are so many twist and turns and unexpected surprises in this story! I did not see the end coming!

I was very excited for an ARC of this book as I am a big Freida fan, however this was just an OK read for me. It felt rushed and unbelievable. The main character seemed very naïve considering her past. I wanted to see her a little more carful and less trusting while she was trying to uncover the truth behind what happened 10 years prior.
It was a fast paced story with good twist in the end but just not as great as other books by this author. 3 solid stars from me.

Thanks you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and the author for a copy of ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

The inmate is told in the MC, Brooke’s, POV through the past and the present. I found myself absolutely addicted to this story, both in the past and the present. I wanted to know what happened all those years ago and I also wanted to see exactly what Brookes plans were with all the information she was coming across.

This story is filled with manipulation, obsession, confusion and boy will you be constantly shifting sides as each new revelation comes to light. I felt like a ping pong going back and forth between my two suspects. I will say though, I was highly impressed with myself for figuring out the Mctwist in this one! I was so thrilled to have been able to figure that one out. Also absolutely loved where this story went.

As per usual McFadden has come up with a great thriller that was fast paced, addicting and easy to follow. I really liked this story. If you are a fan of McFadden and haven’t picked this one up yet – I am highly recommending.

The Inmate is being released by Poisoned Pen Press on 3/5. Get this one! You won’t regret it! Huge thank you to NetGalley, Frieda McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

What did I just read? It was so cliche that I often read parts aloud to my husband just to see if I was reading it right. Why go work in the prison your murderous ex is and then try to avoid him? Why move back to a town you are known in as the final girl? Why is an athletic, nice kid bullied for being a bastard in the 21st century? Why get involved with any of these people?

She doesn't know and neither do I. Back and forth for no reason. Characters with no depth or characters just thrown in for no reason. I don't get it at all.

I could not put this down! The Inmate is definitely in my top 2 Freida books !

I finished this in 24hrs! Such a unique concept that keeps you interested. Every time I thought I knew what was happening it took a completely different turn! I mean is it a bit far fetched? Yes. But I loved it none the less. After finishing the ending I just had to sit there and take it all in.

Brooke moves back to the town she grew up in. The town that she was sent away from after that horrible night and it's consequences. She moves into the town and house she grew up in, and starts working as a NP in the maximum security prison.

This book had so many twists and turns I couldn't keep up. Everytime I thought I had it figured out... oops... there goes another twist. I never seen the twist at the end coming at me. I have no idea how Freida can write so many books and always keep me on my toes of what's going to happen next.

Thank you to Netgalley, Freida McFadden, and the publishers for this free ebook. This review is 100% my own and honest opinion.

4⭐️

This book will have you hooked from page one!

In this book we follow Brooke who is a new nurse at a men maximum security prison which also happens to be where her hs boyfriend is spending the rest of his life for murder.

I really enjoyed this book, the reason I took a star off is because Brooke made some not smart decisions when it came to her child that left me very frustrated to say the least. But over all I would recommend!
