As the first book of a series this novel leaves you with a cliff hanger. But that's not the reason why I give only 2 stars. The main reason is the writing style, always mixing up the tenses, characters are described too one-dimensionally, non-Christians are pure evil, full of sin, not one positive trait. Then there's this image of "paradise", a state between death and the judgement day where the saved souls are to learn in become like God, but there's even grief.
I understand the idea, I see how the author tries to explain the grace and goodness of God. Unfortunately those who don't believe won't ever finish this book. as soon as they understand, how Bert and Melody are portrayed they close it and throw it away.

Just finished reading this and this was the started of my 2024 fantasy read.
I swear to god did i ick a good book? YES
would i read the second? hell yeah!!!
Okay people so this book is filled with every other aspect you question to yourself about afterlife. Demon, Angel and god, how good or bad they work together? how one looks after their loved ones after death.
This is the life of Karen Hill or should I say afterlife, the start is so emotional and helpless for the whole hill family, with Karen's illness and Brit (Karen's husband's) emotional turmoil, how her children Melody and Roy take care of themselves with and without a mother. After the second part its Karen, her angel buddy and her journey in paradises - a path to heaven. And many more new aspects in the story which shall not be revealed! All in all this a great book and I would recommend this book as a christen read, because i think many would not be able to relate to this amazing book.
