2.5⭐️ I adored Her Majesty’s Royal coven and look forward to continuing the series, so when I received an ARC of Queen B I was very excited. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this one which I put down to it being historical fiction, as I don’t usually enjoy this genre.

Queen B taps into the history of Anne Boleyn but instead of being a retelling it focuses on the women around her and their lives after her death. The main focus being on Grace, who is determined to find the traitor within their coven with whom she holds responsible for her Queen’s death.

I did try to enjoy the book but I just found that I couldn’t connect with the characters in the same way I have done in the main books of the series. This was a big part of why I loved the books so much therefore highlighting the difference of Queen B for me.

This novella isn’t a necessary read within the series as it doesn’t add to the story. I can imagine those who love the series and enjoy the historical fiction genre would really enjoy the reading experience.

I have been enjoying this series and I find the story to be different from what I have ever read.

I recommend

This is beautiful!
I love the line in the first chapter about how the men had not planned for what to do after the execution, leaving that to the women.
I haven't read the Royal Coven series. I picked this because I wanted to read something by this author - and I am so glad I did!

Honestly, it wasn't what I expected
I thought it'll be a book about Anne Boleyn or the first time a coven was formed and I guess, it was... Partly.

But it went on a completely different track and I am not sure I loved it that much. The writing was great but the characters weren't appealing
Good thing it was a quick read

Queen B. is a prequel to Her Majesty's Royal Coven that is set quite a bit into our history. It is a slight retelling of Anne Boleyn.

I was very hesitant about a Anne Boleyn retelling. But this story isn't so much about Boleyn as it is about the women around her. In this story, some of the ladies she surrounded herself with were witches, like herself. And in this story we mainly follow Grace Fairfax. She becomes close to Anny Boleyn while also coming more into touch with the magical side of herself. We go back and forth between the present situation for Grace, which is just after Boleyn was beheaded, and scenes that were important to Grace before the beheading.

Grace wants revenge for the person who sold out Anne Boleyn as a witch. It drove the present scenes forward. The flashbacks gave some balance to that as we saw a different side to Grace.

However I was not that invested in this story. There is very little link towards the actual two books we've read. And I did not care too much about any of these characters. It was not a badly written book in anyway. But I could not really connect with it.

It is an interesting read but also one you can easily skip if you aren't that interested in Anny Boleyn or the history part of this story.

I am very excited to be reading this book! My full review to follow.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin for this ARC. Juno Dawson's Her Majesty's Royal Coven series won me over with the very first book and this little insight into the history of the coven is a lot of fun and a nice origin story. Queen B has all of the wonderful Juno Dawson elements - great writing, positive LGBTQ representation, and an engaging story. It opens with the dramatic death of Queen Anne, one of many wives Henry VIII would murder for not giving him a son, and shifts back and forth between that time and the years leading up to it when Anne, the coven and Grace come together, trying to make the world a better place for witches like them.

As those of us who have read the other books in the series, not much has changed in hundreds of years and the witches are still fighting for each other and their ability to just exist as they are. That's what witches do, isn't it. We just keep fighting to make it a better world.

In Queen B , Dawson writes of the origins of Her Majesty's Royal Coven. Anne Boleyn has been beheaded for being a witch and her coven struggles to survive without her.

I really enjoyed this book. I was super curious about the series, so when I saw this book on NetGalley, I felt like a short novella prequel will give me a good idea of what kind of series I'd be getting into.

Well it didn't disappoint, kept me interested the entire time and truly felt like a prequel setting up for the first book. I'll most definitely read that now!

Thanks to netgalley for the e-arc for an honest review

this was a fun little prequel to Juno's first two Royal Coven books.
It was an interesting look at how the coven began, and some insight into the lives in that time period. The witchiness was smoothly integrated with the Desperate Housewives of Henry VIII

Honestly... I was disappointed at where this story developed.
I appreciated getting the arc, because it allowed me to finish the series all the sooner. unfortuatnely, I just didn't like the connection to the first book.

Such a page turner! I was a big fan of Juno Dawson's Her Majesty's Royal Coven series, so I was thrilled to find this prequel and it did not disappoint!

The story focuses on the origins of Her Majesty's Royal Coven, and the Queen of this coven's name, Anne Boleyn. Queen B opens after Anne's beheading and centers on the aftermath of her death, especially as it affects her lover, Grace. Like Anne, Grace and a number of the Queen's ladies are witches who form a coven. Grace and the other remaining witches know that someone has betrayed their Queen and leader of the coven. Not only do they need to track down their betrayer and seek revenge, but they must do so while keeping their powers a secret as the King has given power to a new advisor to track down witches. As the story follows the aftermath of Anne, it flashes back to her time before she was Queen and the beginning of her relationship with Grace.

A real page turner that has me even more excited for the continuation of Her Majesty's Royal Coven series. However, I did need to do some side googling about Queen Anne and King Henry VIII, in particular a reminder of what happens to all of his wives. This googling wasn't necessary for the plot, but it did help my curious mind.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. This is my first Juno Dawson book but definitely won't be my last. I've heard of Her Majesty's Royal Coven but never picked it up but this book gave me the incentive to read it because the writing, characters and plot were all so intriguing and even though the book is very short, I could have read a 500 page book about the coven and their interactions with the court and eventually other magical people they encounter. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a lighter fantasy novel but also a magical twist on a historical period.

I have always been fascinated by the story of Anne Boleyn, so requesting Queen B was a no-brainer for me, and I'm glad to report that I really enjoyed it! The book explores the idea that Anne Boleyn was actually a witch, a concept that I find very compelling. While the pacing was thoughtful at times, the premise of the book really pulled me through, and I ended up really enjoying the experience of reading it.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for granting me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I went into Queen B expecting an origin story of Her Majesty's Royal Coven and unfortunately, I didn't get that. While I think this was an interesting retelling of Anne Boleyn's story, it wasn't what I was expecting. This could have been a bit longer to get more backstory about the coven and that would have made this feel like it's part of the series. Overall, a fun read but didn't feel necessary to read for the series. 3.25 stars

I am obsessed with the Tudor dynasty, and I was so intrigued by the idea of Anne Boleyn actually being a witch. This book definitely took its fair share of creative liberties, but the essence of historical figures never wavered. While slow in some spots, this book was such an immersive read!

As a reader, I approached "Queen B" with a mix of excitement and curiosity, given Juno Dawson's reputation for tackling relevant and complex themes. While the novel certainly delivers on its promises of drama, wit, and social commentary, there were aspects that left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed, resulting in a three-star rating.

There was nothing really memorable here. The story jumped all over the place and the plot left no room for character or world building. I was left not knowing much about what I read or really cared. It was just bland.

This was a solid prequel to the HMRC series. I think this was a unique take on a pretty well-known story. I think if you are caught up on the HMRC series and know the story of Anne Boleyn, there won't be too many surprises here. It was nice, however, to be back in this world and I would be curious if the series conclusion ties in some of the storylines in this prequel.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a digital ARC.

This was interesting! The stakes keep getting hire and hire and it was fun! I don't plan on continuing in the series, but the story is very interesting. The friendship dynamics, the relationships that we have seen happen between mothers and their children has been done very well . I recommend that you pick up this next installment!
