What a good horror graphic novel!!! It's giving me a scary and thrilling feeling after reading it. There are 11 stories, each with a good plot and beautiful art. I highly recommend this as a short horror book that you can read in one sitting.

Adam Ellis' ability to take simple aspects and experiences in our lives and turn them into something utterly chilling will never cease to amaze me.
The second story, Milk Door, was my favorite, perhaps because of the note at the end, which was hilarious.

If you enjoy Adam's art, his humor and how he handles horror, definitely give this one a go. Some of the stories have been seen before on Instagram (for me, at least), some have been edited, but they're all a great read and I will be buying this myself when it releases.

I’ve always been of fan of Adam Ellis and his webtoons since his buzzfeed days, so I was really looking forward to this book.

This anthology has 11 different horror stories. A couple of them he has posted on his instagram page in the past. I kinda wish he had made all new comics to replace those. But besides that it’s an entertaining read. Each story brings that creep factor and some have that twist at the end. They aren’t scary but it’s still a good time. It’s a quick read and worth checking out if graphic novels are your thing.

I've been Adam Ellis' fan for years and years, especially the horror stuff he's been doing lately, so I JUMPED on the opportunity to read this book. I read this in one sitting, and it was good- but not great.

The art IS great throughout, but the stories were a lot more predictable than I expected (and than the stories Adam usually posts on Instagram) It's like he chose the 'safest' ones for this release to play it safe for a mainstream release; but I don't think the world needed yet ANOTHER Green Ribbon reimagining, or r/nosleep creepypasta style 'This actually happened to me!' stories (though Adam did go viral about one of those, the 'Dear David' story). Maybe that's just me.

Thank you NetGalley and Andrew’s McMeel Publishing for providing me this ARC

the art in this was great, Adam is really talented. but, i was a little let down by the actual stories. i suspect that they just weren’t the style of story writing for me but too many ended so abruptly as soon as anything creepy or scary was revealed that they felt more silly than scary/creepy. i still enjoyed some of them especially bus stop, hangnail, murder party and viola bloom.

This graphic novel is awesome! It’s so addictive! I sat down thinking I’d read one or two at a time and instead I ended up reading the entire thing - I literally could not put it down. I didn’t do my laundry today because I read this instead. So good, so creepy, so amusing.

I really enjoyed this book! Illustrations were good, pacing, dialogue, plots were all good too.
I especially enjoyed the twist in the last comic, very creative!
My only criticism is that some of the twists were either too easy to guess or didn’t feel very satisfying.
I know the book is designed as a bunch of short stories, but I thought the longer ones were generally better. Gave time to build upon the characters and the world.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!

I started reading this at 1 AM and finished it in one sitting. It is now 2 AM and I won’t be able to sleep…. Why did I think it was a good idea to read horror in the middle of the night?

I do recommend reading this one if you’re into horror! It’s a horror graphic novel anthology with 11 short stories. Some were definitely more creepy than others, but all stories left me feeling disturbed (especially the last one). I really liked that the author has included a short paragraph at the end of each story, explaining where the inspiration for the story came from and what the story tries to convey.

This is my intro to Adam Ellis work
I like the text concept was fun and refreshing to read also the the green ribbon and butter corn ramen reminds me of Junji ito so much (love his wark)
The authors note on how he got the idea of the story was really enjoyable
I liked the drops of humor added
But felt like the last stories were a bit rushed
The art was good

Great graphic novel! It’s lovely to see an author-illustrator from instagram have a published book, their growth is so satisfying to watch. The illustrations in this book are so well done! Very Nightvale vibes!

This is a brilliant nostalgic collection of horror stories. They remind me of the ones I read growing up. Lots of spine tingling moments, the illustrations greatly help in portraying the horror aspects of the stories. I like that the author gives little explanations after each one about how it came to be. A great collection that will be liked by many.

When I was a kid, I loved all things horror (still do!). This book really brought back that nostalgic creepy feeling. Once I began reading, I couldn’t stop. I work with high school students, and I can’t wait to get a print copy for them to pore over. It'll surely be a fight which student gets to borrow it first.

A fun little horror anotholgy! The stories strongly remind me of horror books I devoured as a kid. Ellis clearly has a strong grasp on the genre. I particularly enjoyed the little explanation after each story.

I had to skip "Hangnail" though. It was some strong body horror that I was not prepared for. Kudos, cause stuff like that does not normally get to me.

✨more like 4.5, I wanted to give it a 5 but I did find one of the stories to be lacking a little bit for me. other than that this collection of horror mini-comics was absolutely creepy and kept me on my toes. I loved that the author also included pages where he explained how each short story came to be. most were inspired by his own life or things he dreamed/experienced and that was sooooo interesting to read about!

✨if you’re a horror fan I would recommend this to you, it’s a quick read. some of the illustrations are truly chilling and the stories range from weird to gory to even emotional. the short about the podcaster might have been my favorite! i loved the opening lost vhs horror movie one as well.

Thank you to @andrewsmcmeel for making 'Bad Dreams in the Night' by Adam Ellis available as an ARC on @netgalley

There's no question in my mind that Adam Ellis is a great cartoonist, and a great illustrator in general. One of the things I really like about this graphic novel is how much stylistic scope Ellis demonstrates while sticking to the aesthetic that he's become known for.

I also think that Ellis has demonstrated in the past that he's capable of crafting both short and long-form stories, with Dear David being an amazing example of a long-form narrative that he was able to craft in a way that was genuinely creepy, even past the point where it was...let's be careful and say allegedly faked.

I wish I could say that this is another example of Ellis achieving the same result again, but the best I can really bring myself to say about the stories themselves - made up of a mix of original horror stories and retellings of classics - is a big old meh.

I did like some of the individual stories, but, in general, the experience of reading through them left me feeling very flat; and even the blurbs given for each story made their selection feel a bit perfunctory. Even if I did laugh at the idea he wrote one of the stories as a kind of punishment for a friend who moved interstate.

If you want an introduction to some basic horror stories in a cool looking package, or are introducing a young person to horror, this might do the job. But, if you're already a horror fan, I don't think it's going to scratch any itches you may have.

Neat little horror comic collection. I've seen his web comics off and on for years. I was definitely intrigued when he started writing horror. I've enjoyed the change in his art style over the years. This was nice to see.

I've followed Adam on Instagram for years so I have seen some of these comics before but I still really enjoyed them. Short and creepy with great visuals, this is a fast and fun read!

If you are like me you follow Adam Ellis somewhere on the interwebs for his hilarious comics and more recently his absolute mindtrips of horror comics. Ellis can somehow tell some of the creepiest stories you've ever read in some cases just four panels, which I find to be a true gift. Bad Dreams in the Night is not only a testament to this but what I found it to be one of the things I absolutely love about this is an exceptionally well done trip down memory lane. Even though I've never read any of these before Ellis is somehow able to make these creepy little stories feel not just well creepy but feel almost comforting, nostalgic is a word I suppose, but as a kid whose favorite place was curled up reading Scary Stories to Read in the Dark, I'd safe is a better word. Warm, and comfy, and in a better time and place where all I had to worry about was whether or not my parents would approve of what I was reading, which in their defense of course they would. To top that off Ellis explains the inspiration for each story at the end and I really enjoyed that, as a reader I think speculating as to an author's purpose or their inspiration can sometimes drive us nuts, I mean c'mon there are literally memes about it, so I appreciated the fact that Ellis shared his with us. Especially with the last story, I can't speak for him of course, but I can imagine it would have been horrible to be in the situation he found himself in and to share that with the world could not be easy.

Overall, I highly recommend it for not just fans of Ellis but Junji Ito and every kid who found their safeplace reading about the Tell Tale Heart well after bedtime with a flashlight under the covers.

And as always thanks to Andrew McMeel Publishing and Netgally for the eArc!

I really enjoyed this dark horror collection. I found the art to be fantastic and the bite sized stories had me hooked. Unfortunately, the nudity in it make it not appropriate for my high school library. However, I found it a blast to read personally. Highly recommend for personal collections.

Especially enjoyable for those who love horror, a collection of distinctive stories inspired by a set of real events that the writer went through. The drawing method was excellent and expressive.
The story I liked the most and felt that it was truly terrifying (Butter Corn Ramen)
The mother of the most distinguished story in drawing is (Little House in the Sea)
