Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the digital ARC! My Ultramarine Sky is a BL/Shounen Ai manga from Nagisa Furuya (My Summer of You) and follows the story of friends Kai and Ren. Kai and Ren have been classmates and friends since the start of middleschool/junior high. Now in their final year of highschool, they've been placed into separate classes, is this the start of them drifting apart, or could their feelings toward one another be more than friendship. My Ultramarine Sky is a gentle romance and a quick read that explores both characters thoughts and motivations and portrays their evolving relationship with heart-wrenching authenticity.

My Ultramarine Sky was so damn cute. There wasn't a ton of plot, but the focus on the characters and their struggle to adjust to being in different classes for the first time was perfectly paced. It was a snapshot of their lives at this crucial coming-of-age moment where they came to terms with their feelings for each other. I truly got the sense that these boys had been best friends forever, and I appreciated how much their connection came across in the writing and art. They were adorable and unsure about making their romantic feelings known, even though it seemed their other friends already knew they were a package deal. While this wasn't a steamy story (thankfully, since the characters were still minors), it did have a strong focus on the emotions of the boys and the impact of their relationship, and its potential loss, on each other's lives and well-being. If you are looking for a wonderful friends to boyfriends BL story, I definitely recommend picking this one up. Therefore, I give My Ultramarine Sky a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

A short but sweet BL story where the two main protaganists don't realise their feelings until they are distant. It's a great story to put a smile on your face with funny dialogue and intense moments that leave you wanting more from the characters.

My Ultramarine Sky is another great manga by Nagisa Furuya ! This author does an amazing job of depicting BL school romances in all of her books, and this one is no different. Watching Kai and Ren face the realization of their feelings after being put in separate classes for the first time in their academy carriers was interesting as well as heartwarming. If you enjoyed any of Furuya's other novels, this one will be no different :)

It's a plot you've likely seen before if you're familiar with the BL genre. One high school boy is secretly in love with another high school boy, they've been friends for years, but the truth and their feelings must come bubbling out one way or another.
Kai is who we open with as our focus, the boy with an unrequited crush on his friend since middle school, Ren. He and Ren have their own sort of game that seems to be like gay chicken, acting out BL scenarios to the amusement of their other friends. But it's a way for Kai to also indulge in his feelings, and when he confesses his feelings to a seemingly sleepy Ren, Ren is quick to brush it off as another joke. But it becomes clear that it's not, and that friendship simply isn't enough for Kai anymore.
We switch to Ren about halfway through and largely follow him to the tale's conclusion, as he faces up to the idea that perhaps he's been taking Kai for granted, asking himself if he wants a life without Kai and what it may mean if he doesn't want to give him up.
A sweet story of a blossoming high school romance, in other words.

Such a cute high school romance!
I absolutely loved both of the characters and their backgrounds. My only complaint is that it isn’t longer!
I really loved how the two main characters interacted, it felt like they were actually friends in real life. Their relationship developed over the course of the book at the perfect pace. I was falling in love with the characters as they were falling in love with each other.

I think this story was a generic high school romance about 2 friends that end up falling for each other, the only major difference is that they are both boys. I don't feel this story did anything new or amazing, but overall it wasn't a bad story. I do feel like I appreciate that they don't feel the need to label either of the boys as gay, but just over the course of time they just fell for each other. Sometimes I like that more in a story when they put for of a value on loving who you love, not so much the label.
Overall a cute and clean story.
Thanks to #NetGalley for an advance e-copy of #MyUltramarineSky Nagisa Furuya to read and review.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Oh I am an absolute sucker for a childhood friends to lovers plot line and this did not disappoint. This was such a cute and realistic little story. As a queer person myself, I so strongly related to the characters and their development in realizing their feelings were more than friendship. It was very sweet. I would love to see more from them and see where their relationship went!

It's been a hot minute since I've read a manga but I'm happy I got to read this little gem. I miss reading all those bl manga so I had to take the opportunity and get this. Definitely a cute little story and the art is amazing. The two main guys were so cute and the friends were funny. Also loved the fact that we got both pov's from the main characters. Definitely a cute little story where I wish there were more volumes coming.

Having both perspectives in this manga really made the story richer, especially given its length. I wished there was more backstory and a deeper dive into their friendship—it left me wanting to know more about their journey and the moments that brought them together. Still, within its limits, the manga was a satisfying and cute read. Towards the end, I couldn't help but feel really excited and giddy!

Nagisa Furuya is my go to for any Bl manga. I absolutely adore The my summer with you series and when i saw this, i just had to read it. Nagisa has a way of drawing you into the story and the way they are drawn and written, you cannot be invested.
An amazing story and any BL reader should definitely have Nagisa Furuya on their shelves.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an advanced copy in exchange for a fair and honest review!
I loved this manga, a sweet a beautiful exploration of two long time friends dealing with the woes of not knowing if your friend could ever be in love with you back. An absolute delight of a single volume story. The art is lovely and captures the teenage awkwardness that helps carry the other emotions. Would absolutely recomend for anyone looking for a low stakes happy ending YA style BL manga.

When childhood best friends Ren and Kai are placed in different classrooms for the first time in their lives, Kai struggles with being separated from Ren. But it seems like Ren is just taking it all in stride. It causes Kai to secretly confess his romantic feelings for Ren, but when Ren overhears it seems like everything goes wrong.
How can they move forward still being friends with that hanging between them? Has Kai risked everything by admitting what he feels?
This story is tropey in the best way. Friends to Lovers, Dramatic Love Confessions, and high school romance. I enjoyed this one.

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc!
Kai and Ren have been inseparable since childhood, always being in the same classes pushed them together and now they are best friends. In this new school year they are separated for the first time and this causes them to both realise the depth of their feelings towards one another.
This book had me gripped straight away. I loved the different personality types between the two main characters and also within the friendship group. I feel like the characters were very relatable and their banter really funny, especially their 'bits' playing out BL scenes. There was an innocent romance captured that I think is hard to find and it was a joy to read.
There were a lot of stand out moments in this but ultimately its a beautiful story of friendship, coming of age, self realisation and love. It's a book that leaves you feeling really warm and excited for what else might come from this author. Maybe a sequel?!

A cute stand alone BL story. There's nothing groundbreaking about the story but it's enjoyable and would be a good addition to a manga collection especially if your prefer to avoid longer running series.

The art style was not my favorite, but the story was very cute. Simple, but cute. I think I'll look for more books by this author to read!

Without giving too much away, this sweet story about two childhood friends separated for the first time in high school reminded me of Seven Days in tone. Not sure if this is standalone or the start of a series but I enjoyed it.

I loved My Ultramarine Sky, it’s a beautiful coming of age story about friendships and how the bonds we make can evolve and change to become even more deep and beautiful. I really liked the slow burn romance that was conveyed here.

Loved this so much!! Was fast paced and captivating! Not an exactly new concept but done so well. Made me feel the heartbreak of missing out on teenage love so must be good! Will be thinking about this for a while.

For how short this manga is, I was impressed with the ability to feel the emotions throughout here that I did. The author really found a way to have me root for Kai and Ren.
The reader gets both perspectives, which gives the reader a chance to see that realization both of them have that their friendship could be something more. It’s heart-warming and sweet while also painful as they are both struggling so much and don’t seem to know what they are going to do with their feelings that are coming to the surface.
Getting sequences of their past, was great. It really added depth to the story and the main characters. With these moments, it really adds to the emotions. They feel more alive and real.
My Ultramarine Sky is a slow-paced manga, but it’s worth a read. The emotions expressed are beautiful and the characters are fleshed out, all in this short manga. If you are looking for a soft BL manga, give this one a chance.
