I love learning about other cultures and languages, so I snapped this up as soon as I saw it. I had never heard of Lohri, which is a celebration originating in Panjab, India. The festival celebrates that the days are (finally) getting longer, and sugarcane is a huge crop during this time. Now that’s a party I can get behind…I hate the cold, dreary days of winter!

The illustrations are very cute and educational in their depictions of native dress and local dishes. There are also two recipes shared at the end, as well as interesting facts about the language. I had no idea that there were so many Panjabi speakers, especially in the UK and Canada!

This is a quick, entertaining read for a young child and would be a good addition to any library.

Thank you to NetGalley, Amplify Publishing and Mascot Books for a free copy in exchange for my honest feedback.

I had never heard of this winter festival before but I enjoyed learning about it in this gorgeous little picture book that's in English and Punjabi. There is a fun story about the celebration along with explanations and even recipes at the end. I want to try the peanut brittle!
