This will issue well just like the rest in this series! Great to see it's just a two volume story as well.

This digital ARC was obtainable via NetGalley for an honest review!

Boichi's art is amazing. Ace was depicted beautifully. Ace is one of my favorite characters in One Piece. I believe Sho Hinata & Tatsuya Hamazaki did great on the story. I loved, loved, loved this volume.

This manga was a bit of excitement and let down. There was more of information on the character writing Ace's story rather than Ace himself. Ace is stranded and needs help which he finds. His adventure starts there and then there is some brief interactions that move the story along. The story itself had action and adventure but it lacks the build up of events that is known for the characters in One Piece. There was a lot of jumping around from the meeting to get to meeting of Whitebeard. While I know it doesn't follow the format of One Piece, it doesn't allow for readers to connect with the character and is relying on their love of Ace to have them read the book. Some of the events happen too fast that you can barely wrap your head around it but the story has already progressed and then you need to backtrack to make sure you're following the story. The art style is is similar to Boichi's Dr. Stone characters and the pacing is very similar where decisions are made and then they happen. Ace story has great potential and I can see it being a hit once we get to certain events.

I have never read any One Piece but I’ve always heard amazing things so I was so excited to be approved to read this volume. I can easily see why One Piece has such a devoted group of readers. The characters were so easy to love and care about especially considering the format and limited text. The humor in this was surprising to me as I didnt expect it to be funny but it was delightful.

So excited to receive a NetGalley copy of this new installment to the One Piece world. As a fan of the manga this was an awesome insight into the life of one of the most beloved characters. It's also a great adaptation of the light novel of the same name. It's just a must read for any One Piece fan or pirate lover!

As a long-time fan of One Piece, I was excited to give this a try. Ace is one of those fan favorite characters that most readers love, but that is not in the actual story very much. We get hints of Ace's adventures, and we meet characters (such as Yamato and Otama) that knew him in the past, but we never truly get a look at his early years as a pirate. And here, we really don't get a good look either, as the story itself is, once again, told from someone else's pov. Billed as a look at Ace's origins, the story is actually told as a story being written by his first crew member, which takes away some of the personal nature of a backstory. The pacing is also strange, with huge time skips to bring his crew into the New World very quickly. Big events, like the fight with Jinbe, are over in a few pages, and any additional info is surface level and doesn't add much depth to what's going on. It would've been nice to have more from Ace's direct pov, and while I did like reading this, I found it too jumpy and lacking in detail to be of much interest.
