Another winner from Susan Mallery. Erica is a successful owner of a chain of beauty salons, and is divorced from her teenaged daughter's father, Peter, an accountant. He has remarried to Allison and has a toddler and another on the way when he is arrested for wire fraud, among other charges, leaving Allison in the lurch -- no money, no home, nothing. She's blindsided, to say the least. Summer intervenes and convinces Erica to let Allison move into her large house, at least till after the baby is born. Both women have issues with relationships, neither believes the charges at first, but eventually they bond over the scalawag [yeah I know it's an ancient term but it fits!} Allison learns that she is stronger than she believes, and Erica learns that she can love again, and even Summer softens and figures out that she too can love. Families come in all shapes and sizes and this is one very unconventional one that works!!

Thank you to netgalley for this arc of this book.
Susan Mallery outdid herself on this book. Erica is divorced from Peter’s their daughter Summers father. He’s remarried to Allison. Allison gets a call from Peter from jail. They have frozen all of their bank accounts so she can’t even get gas for her car. Summer talks Erica into taking Allison in to help as she has a toddler and is pregnant and due soon and has no money she can access. Erica wasn’t super excited about it but does it for Summer. What started out as just helping her out turns into a great friendship. Such a great inspiring story.

Susan mallery outdoes herself again with this book. Erica owns twister which is some high end beauty salons. She is worried she is losing her daughter to her ex husband Peter and his new wife Allison. Allison receives a call that Peter is in prison and won’t be getting out soon. Their accounts are frozen and pregnant Allison has nowhere to go. Summer talks her mother into letting Allison and her son Jackson. What started out as two women not liking each other turn into a great friendship. A great book

I received a free copy of this from netgalley. It was a great book. Susan Mallery doesn't disappoint. She teaches you that family isn't always about blood relatives. Family comes in all shapes and sizes. At first you feel bad for Allison because she can't seem to catch a break. Then when Erica, an unlikely person, steps up to help her, you start rooting for them to be friends/family.

Family is many different forms, in this book, Erica is divorced from Peter, who is remarried to Allison, Erica and Peter shared daughter by the name of Summer , Allison and Peter have an 18 month old son, and Allison is currently pregnant and due shortly… One day when Allison goes to use the bank account, she finds that their funds are frozen and Peter is in jail for money laundering.
With frozen accounts, pregnant, no money of her own, she takes Peter’s first wife Erica up on her offer to live with her and Summer.

This is unconventional but it does work! Together both women become stronger.
I loved Erica, she was my role model, I don’t know if I could do what Erica did.
I couldn’t read this book fast enough. I absolutely enjoyed it!

For The Love of Summer was a beautiful story about a young girl who is brought up by her single, entrepreneur mother, Erica. When Summer’s father is arrested, Summer enlists the help of her mother to help her pregnant stepmother, Allison, and toddler brother. Erica resists but gives in to helping them by taking them into her home. Erica and Allison strike up an unlikely bond, each helping the other where one lacks strength. Erica mentors Allison and Allison helps Erica to trust her feelings again. I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want it to end. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. As usual, Susan Mallery hit it out of the park.

This was so good! Readers can always count on Susan Mallery for a great contemporary love story, and this is one of her best. Erika is a great character -- she owns several successful beauty salons and has become very wealthy and fuflilled. She is totally self-made. Life is smooth, until her ex-husband is put in prison for financial fraud, leaving behind his young, lovely new pregnant wife and toddler son, who are instantly penniless and facing homelessness. Erika, against her better judgement, takes them in, and in doing so, makes life better for them and herself as well. Lots of romance here, and great character development as these great characters grow and change. I truly look forward to recommending this title.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to read “For the Love of Summer” and I loved everything about this emotional and uplifting story! Erica is a no-nonsense, savvy business owner who loves her daughter, Summer, is proud of all that she has accomplished and doesn’t need a man to make her life complete. She does have a handsome, and equally successful man in her life who is the perfect plus one when either of them needs a date for an event. Erica is her own person who makes her own decisions and is happy with how her life is now! I loved all the characters in the book, but Erica was definitely my favorite because of her strength, creativity and her quick-on-her feet decision making. She assesses the facts, offers a solution and implements a successful plan. Allowing Allison to move into her house showed Erica’s kind, generous and loving side because most people would never have agreed to the unusual living arrangements. This is what fascinated me most about this unique storyline! Co-existing with your ex-husband's new wife and her son is unheard of but I can understand why Erica would agree to her daughter's heartfelt request. Summer is a caring and kindhearted teenager whose wide-eyed enthusiasm about the living arrangements was refreshing to see in someone so young. I was eager to see how they would all get along and if being together would become too much for all of them to deal with but with Erica in charge, I am sure everyone would have the happy ending that they deserved!

For the Love of Summer. Susan Mallery has written an excellent story dealing with the damage caused by emotional abuse and how painful it can be to recognize the lingering effects and challenges. The author focuses on Erica, the very successful ex-wife of Peter Jenkins, who is bullied by her 16 year old daughter, Summer to support Allison, the current wife when husband Peter is arrested for serious federal crimes. As the story unfolds readers slowly learn how Peter’s selfishness has undermined the confidence of the three women who should have been the most important parts of his life. The friendship that develops between the two women is inspiring and ultimately leads to some unexpected changes in more than several lives. It’s a wonderfully empowering story. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. I was happy that a favorite author had a new release so of course was looking forward to reading it and yet kept thinking the premise was more than a little far fetched. I mean in what world would a happily divorced, successful woman help out the new wife of her shameless, gutless, thieving (known only to her) lying jerk of an ex husband who walked away without warning or a look back and how would the author create a scenario in which it would make any sense to me or any reader? Unsurprisingly Susan Mallery wrote a wonderful story about women supporting women, getting beyond their own heads, hearts and ego, standing by each other and helping them to stand on their own to live their best lives. So while I started reading with a lot of skepticism, I finished it thinking that every woman should have friends like Erica and Summer, be open to possibilities of all kinds, let people in and be open to possibilities of friendship in the last place we could imagine.

Mallery's latest is a beautiful story of forgiveness, family, and friendship. When her ex-husband finds himself in legal trouble, Erica is faced with a difficult decision; whether to assist his pregnant wife and young son or leave them to fend for themselves. While staying out if it might please Erica, it may permanently impact her relationship with her daughter, Summer. As she steps in to help, she may find that the person she is helping the most is herself. For the Love of Summer is a beautiful read full of the complications and joy that family brings.

FOR THE LOVE OF SUMMER by Susan Mallery
On sale JUNE 4/ 2024

Erica is a strong, independent woman. She is a mother to a wonderful teenager, Summer, and owns TWISTED, a collection of four spa/salons that are number one in Seattle. The only thing is that she is divorced from Peter, who is now married to Allison who is expecting their second child. Even though she no longer loves her ex-husband, he is part of their lives because of Summer.

But when Peter ends up in jail, his and Allison’s funds are frozen and Allison is left high and dry with tons of questions for her husband, no money, pregnant with a two year old and having to vacant her rental in a month, what is she going to do?

Summer convinces her mother that even though Allison is married to her ex-husband, she needs their help. Strangely enough, Erica needs a friend as much as Allison needs her help. Can they weather through the storm Peter has thrown them into?

This was one of my favorite books, if not my favorite by Susan Mallery! I loved everything about it. The storyline was so unique, and the characters were all likeable. I could not put this down. Definitely will recommend !!!

I think this is Susan Mallery’s best book yet. She writes about betrayal, new beginnings and love. The last thing Erica expected was her 16 year old daughter talking her into moving her ex husband’s new wife, her toddler son and soon to be born baby girl to live with them. She also did not expect to become friends with the woman. It was fun to watch their friendship develop and how they helped each other. The situations and characters are very real and most are likable. I recommend this book to any woman. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

Susan Mallery is one of my all time favorite authors and I absolutely devoured "For the Love of Summer". You can never go wrong with one of her books!

This is my first novel by Mallery and I was not disappointed! For starters, I absolutely loved Erica's character - she's a strong and no-nonsense kind of woman with tons of growth to show her compassionate side. She had great chemistry with Allison, and I enjoyed seeing them go from enemies to friends over such a difficult event. I had so much compassion for Summer as well, dealing with far beyond what anyone at her age should have to experience. While I can't relate directly to what they went through, "For the Love of Summer" was very relatable as it touched on themes such as love, loss, family, parenthood, manipulation, and navigating the messy lives of teenagers. This one would be a great book club or beach read. Thanks so much for the ARC!

This was a 3 star read along with being such a heartfelt enjoyable book to read. This was my second novel by Susan Mallery that I have read and it did not disappoint. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. I really admired how the author wrote in great detail the ups and downs the main characters struggle through. I enjoy how it shows different things in life people go through in addition to how their character deals with it and how they handle things. It was a great book to read & I hope people will enjoy reading For The Love Of Sunmer as much as I did.

This was a wonderful story, with themes of a strong family and new beginnings. The main characters are the current and ex wives of a man, Peter, who ends up in jail, and how the women grow within themselves and their situation.
