Is there really a cure for grief? In The Grief Cure by Cody Delistraty, he recounts his experience of losing his mom to cancer and searching for ways to overcome his prolonged grief. As someone who also lost her mom to cancer and is still dealing with all the issues surrounding her death, I appreciated the authors understanding of how all consuming grief can be and the need to make it go away.

The author explores a myriad of scientific and no-so-scientific means to address grief. From pharmaceuticals to laughter medicine, from AI to deleting memories, Delistraty leaves no stone unturned to find ways to remove the thoughts and feelings that haunt him. He shares his experiences, the experiences of others, and all the ways we have been told to experience grief.

The author is a wonderful writer. The prose are beautiful, his stories feel true and heartfelt and the science is fact checked. It is clear that our culture lacks an understanding of grief and how to respond to grief. I hope that The Grief Cure sparks curiosity, opens up discussions about grief, and provides comfort to those who are grieving.
