annie bot is a female rage-inciting story for fans of black mirror about how dangerous the combination of the rise of artificial intelligence and misogynoir under patriarchal oppression. although this story may be very triggering for people with similar experiences, it does a thorough job exploring the effects and cycles of abusive in romantic relationships and their effects (such as stockholm syndrome) through a speculative fiction lens as well as the impact of self-empowerment, self-compassion, and self-actualization. i haven’t hated a character as much as i hated the male main character in a long time as well as the (disturbingly familiar) world that justified and enabled him. this novel was one i couldn’t put down, but, feminists beware: buy a copy of this book, get a newfound sense of misandry free.

This was such an intriguing story; I had so much fun reading this. It was so interesting having a book told from an AI's point of view and see how she was growing and learning. It definitely makes you think about how we may see AI evolve in the real world.

The complexity of trying to think about how robots should be treated (whether or not they deserve the same respect as humans) and whether or not they can actually feel emotions was mind boggling. The philosophical aspects of this book will have me reeling for the foreseeable future.

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Wow wow wow. I just know this book is going to be talked about a lot this year! I was truly sucked into this story from the beginning. It is so enthralling while also being incredibly hard to listen to at times. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say I am happy the ending didn't go where I thought it would, and yet was still very unexpected!

The narrator did the most fantastic job making annie feel both human and robotic at times. The depth of emotion was subtle but perfect for the story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me listen early!

This book was both empowering to women but also patronizing to women. In general, this book is odd along with humanity explored which is intriguing.
