Many thanks to NetGalley, publisher, and author for the advanced reading copy. What follows are my honest opinions and thoughts on the material.

Round from a 3.5

Like many other readers, I have been a fan of Auri ever since I stumbled across her Youtube channel. It is simply incredible to witness the transformations she creates in homes and how she always has a positive attitude while doing it. Her happiness and zeal for cleaning is contagious and I find myself cleaning my own home while having her videos playing.

Following that structure, I managed to clean a good portion of my home while listening to this audiobook. I was not entirely sure what to expect when listening to her book, but I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought it did seem a bit jumbled in terms of moving from one idea to the next, I found it fascinating to learn more about Auri, her upbringing, her cleaning background, and even about some of the people she has helped. An added bonus were the cleaning tips she offered, towards the end of her book.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator tell Auri's story and explaining how to keep a home clean. I will definitely be implementing some of the tips offered.

I would like to say thank you to NetGalley and publisher. However I was loving this book then while listening to it the book/audiobook dissapeared. I no longer have access to it to finish listening to it. Therefore I am unable to leave my review. For this reason I am leaving a one star review- had I been able to finish the audiobook I am sure it would have been a five star.

Unfortunately, I felt like this book lost a lot in translation and narration. I was hoping to hear Auri's voice and personality in the book, but it felt overly drawn out, like it could have been an article but was forced into being a book.

I was so excited to listen to this but I feel so much of this book was lost in translation from Finnish to English and the narrator struggled to bring the story to life because of it.
I was hoping the story was more in depth from her point of view versus the author telling us Auri story.

It was really refreshing to see the background story to the famous cleaning influencer I’ve followed on TikTok. I think that it was a really well written book on the experiences and impact that has occurred. While I would love to have had more cleaning tips and tricks, it really focused on to crux of cleaning hacks - getting down and doing it. I would love to “hear” more about experiences that have had on cleaning and more.

Thank you to RB Media and Aurikatariina Kananen for Happiness Cleaning!

I found the book to be highly motivational and I loved her tips! I also loved her humility and her story. She is a wonderful person who truly loves to help people by cleaning their houses. Many of the people she helps are in deep depression and she brings a glimmer of hope and light to them.

I was originally introduced to her videos by my teenage daughter a couple of years ago. She loved watching them and now I do too.

I definitely recommend this book and the audio book reader did a fabulous job!

The cover is cute, and the narrator did a great job.

The content of the book, however, was a total mess. I have followed her videos and was excited to learn some awesome cleaning tips from her, or even gain inspiration from her personal story.

None of that was in there: I don’t even know what this book was about. It was a lot of random nonsense.

Ok to be fair, she did talk about what types of dish detergent she recommends 🤦‍♀️

The first chapter literally talks about the entire childhood and life story of another person. Not even the interesting eventful things, but literally what kind of baby she was, when she met her milestones, that she got depression when she was older, etc. like what does that even have anything to do with anything the book is supposed to be about.?

I think there’s a lot of scrubbing that should be done to this book before it is released, everything is completely off topic.

I also noticed that on Net Galley the title is “happiness cleaning” and on Goodreads it is “Queen of Cleaning.” I personally think “Happiness Cleaning” is a lot more catching. With her cute pose on the cover, it made me feel like this was going to be a fun book filled with great tips on how she cleans such crazy spaces in so little time and how to have fun doing it. It’s also very unique and would help the book stand apart. “Queen of Cleaning” is just eh. Still, I don’t feel the content at the moment fits either of those titles.

This book honestly kind of feels like the publisher found her viral
Videos and was like “hey we will offer you this if you write us a book” and she agreed and then just completely trolled everyone with this nonsense.

This neat freak was NOT happy
with "Happiness Cleaning: How to Embrace the Mess and Love the Cleanup".

WHY?
This book does not do justice to Auri, one of Finland's most famous cleaning influencers who cleans the homes of the disadvantaged for free.

The first 75% of the book focuses on the sob stories of the families Aura has helped.

I was not interested in hearing sob stories.

Instead, I wanted to know the nitty-gritty details of how Aura selected these families and what Aura did to clean those homes.

There were cleaning tips at the end of the book that were lost in translation.

All of the cleaning tips at the end of the book would have benefited from accompanying videos.

One of Auri's tips was to never use a vacuum cleaner. (Huh?)

Damp microfiber cloths were recommended.

(I have a dog and I recommend using both!)

I listened to the audiobook read by Melissa Redmond.

Melissa Redman's narration was robotic and did nothing to help this book's dry and uninspiring dialogue.

UGH.....the book's cover and publisher's blurb were enticing but this book failed to deliver the "happiness" that was promised.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One star rounded up.

I wanted to listen to this audiobook because I can always use tips about cleaning, as well as being happy - and the cover picture screams happy! This book is a non-fiction book about Aurikatariina "Auri" Kananen, a Finnish cleaning sensation with 12 million followers on social media. This is more than twice that of population of her native Finland. Oona Laine is a reporter who didn't think she might be interested in writing about a YouTube cleaner, and starts her assignment somewhat skeptically.

The book is mostly her background story and attitude towards cleaning. Auri was a depressed teenager who found solace in cleaning. She cleans because she enjoys it, and cleaning brings her joy. She doesn't judge others of the mess they have created because anyone can get messy from time to time. She accepts her assignment for "free" of charge in exchange with the right to publish it on the internet. She films before and after her cleaning, with a trusted crew to post on internet. It's an interesting proposition. While lasting effects of her cleaning may be questioned, she wouldn't worry about the place being messy again. She has done her assignment once, and the rest is up to the owners themselves.

The part I like the most is that she accepts assignments as they are, without judging the owners (often times she doesn't meet them) or social stigma. Many people who cannot clean their environment also suffer depressions and mental illnesses. She suggests to make cleaning fun, and tackle only what you can where you care about - cleaning is not the cure all, but it can bring you joy to clean your environment. She enjoys the act itself and not necessarily to enjoy the result. Her attitude towards cleaning is an eyeopener.

This book may be enjoyed by people who think cleaning is a chore and want to have an attitude adjustment. Those of you who enjoy Auri's social media posts would certainly enjoy learning her background and philosophy about cleaning, Also, if one is into developing themselves to be a social media star, her life story may be fascinating. It is a fun read and it goes quickly.

This book may not be someone who desperately needs cleaning tips though. There are a few listed here, but they are general and not for specific tasks. I am afraid I fall into this category, so overall a little disappointed that it didn't have more tricks about magically cleaning the home. The audiobook was narrated by Melissa Redmond who did an excellent job and made it fun to listen to. I also enjoyed the girly pink cover.

This audiobook was provided courtesy of Netgalley and Tantor Audio in exchange with an honest review. My opinion is my own - thank you!

First thing’s first: thank you Netgalley for the ALC of this book!
Happiness Cleaning: How to Embrace the Mess and Love the Cleanup was an interesting book. I watch Auri’s YouTube and TikTok videos so I was excited to see this book! I expected this book to be more of a self help or instructional manual but was really more of a behind the scenes peek into her channel. I enjoyed it because I enjoy her content, but I am very confused as to why this is being advertised as a guide. There is some advice sprinkled throughout the stories, but by and large I wouldn’t classify this as a self-help book or a cleaning guide.
If you’re just looking for an interesting read about a content creator you already like: 4⭐️
If you’re looking for a cleaning guide: 1⭐️

Overall, I think I’m rating this 3⭐️ because I did enjoy it, even if it wasn’t what I was expecting.
