A hilarious cast of characters, a whodunit, and a banter filled slow burn romance. The Dead Guy Next Door is a fast paced, laugh out loud read. Nick and Riley are enamored with each other from their first meeting and despite their feelings they agree to just be friends. Only the more time they spend together the more their feelings grow.

At first it was hard to get into, but as the story kept going I did enjoy the mystery and the romance. I enjoyed the quirky characters and the funny commentary.

I really really enjoyed this book! The plot is so unique and the characters, especially Riley, are so incredibly funny even though they’re dealing with a literal crime. 😅

This was one hilarious ride!!!
I absolutely loved the murder mystery vibes with a bit steamy romance.
If you need something adorable and funny for in-between heavier books, this one has you covered...

This started out really good then literally dragged on and on with tons of boring filler. One thing I am noticing is that 9 times out of 10 if a book is over 400 pages it will not be as good as books that are around 300-350, because that extra 100 pages is boring filler that ruins the quality of the book. I really am starting to feel there is a sweet spot for pages in a book & you can only go over that if you have a truly amazing story that absolutely needs it. This did not. This could have been amazing, but it dragged on so much that I got tired of it.

I really loved the premise of her being a psychic and Gabe was an interesting character. There were lots of good parts. Just too much filler. Not for me.

Okay let’s just start with me saying that it started off well.

But it was just LONG and it just kept on going.
It felt like it was longer than it needed to be.
Which really made me not care about what happened at the end.

This book is fun chaos! Riley is being forced to accept her psychic powers in order to try and prevent her neighbor’s murder. What results is Lucy Score setting up a wonderful, ongoing world and a whole cast of kooky characters. There are so many places Score can take these characters’ stories so be prepared to settle in for an amazing series!

Do fun and murder mystery ever come in one sentence? I sure hope so! I love a great murder mystery but coupled with a fun romance - it’s a great way to start the weekend.

This is a new to me author.
This series is about a divorced Riley Thorn who meets Nick Santiago ( a lover of a good puzzle to solve) and they set out on their quest to find the perpetrator.

As their relationship progresses, so does the body count. The challenges add up as do the relatives that are just a big of a challenge as the mysterious Corps🖤es.

The writing is very fast-paced. The storytelling is very dynamic, full of humor and action.
Sometimes we all need an adventurous story with great sweet and fun feels that brings our mood up; lets us relax and enjoy the ride!

This book was very long- took me a month to finish reading each night before bed. But I love Lucy Score's writing as it keeps you sucked in. I would not normally read any paranormal type story, but this was cute and funny and at times a little steamy. The characters are very quirky. Gabe was probably my favorite, although I pictured him differently than described. I wonder how the rest of the series will go. It was fun to read this for me since I live in the area the book takes place and knew all the places mentioned.
I would give it 4.5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for an advanced reader copy..

You know... i love Lucy Score. But this one... ouffff. I strongly dislike mediums and it was really hard to keep at it, but eventually it beat me into it. I was decent and good enough for me to try the second one.

Thanks Netgalley for this ARC.

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door is classic Lucy Score with a psychic twist! This is just the book I needed to brighten my day.

Riley is coming off of a bad divorce and rebuilding her life, but she is strong, smart, resourceful, and, oh yeah, psychic. The murder of her next door neighbor brings P.I. Nick Santiago into her life and they are thrust into a mystery that neither of them expected.

Nick and Riley are adorable together! I loved their banter, pretty instant chemistry, and how their relationship evolved over the course of the book.

Lucy's writing is always snappy and fun with a well paced plot. I believe this is one of her longest books, but I was drawn in from page one and it flew by.

The cast of secondary characters were hilarious, and there's a few people I would love to see get their own HEA. Crossing my fingers for more of Riley, Nick, and the whole crew!

I always enjoy Lucy’s books. They are easy to read and just always a light hearted read. I loved Sam and Riley’s banter. And I just needed to see how it ended. I loved that it was a murder mystery romance. It made it that much more fun. Auto buy author for me.

Riley Thorne is not in the best place. She’s surrounded by elderly neighbors after her breakup, she hates her job and she denying she’s seeing visions even though physic abilities run in the family. Her mom’s an avid tarot card reader. But when Riley sees her neighbor dead before he ends up being murdered she can’t ignore things anymore. And that she’s at the top of the suspect list doesn’t help. When PI Nick Santiago ends up on the case he’s not sure what think when it comes to Riley. Even though she’s surrounded by some pretty eccentric people, Nick can’t help but find Riley endearing and believe in her abilities. If only Riley would just follow orders.

This laugh out loud murder mystery will leave you smiling and wanting to eagerly start reading the next book!

Such a fun new series, I loved every word of this book and I can't wait to continue with these characters. Riley Thorn lives in a small run down room in a mansion filled with quirky characters. She is psychic but wants to be normal, so she suppresses her talents. If she hadn't, maybe she wouldn't be divorced from a guy she never should have married in the first place. Nick Santiago is a private investigator who does best working for himself. Riley and Nick's worlds collide when they end up in a murder investigation. When I say mayhem ensues, it is an enormous understatement. With these characters, anything can happen. While I enjoyed Riley and Nick's stories, the other characters in the book really make this book laugh out loud fun.

My thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for an ecopy. My opinion is my own.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I felt as if this book started a little slow, but as it sped up, it was wonderful and I could not put it down! How did I not know about this series before now?? Everything I've read by Lucy Score is fabulous! Riley and Nick's story, the action, the suspense..this mix is so so good. Ended up loving this and can't wait to read the rest of the Riley Thorn series!

The Dead Guy Next Door is the first in Lucy Score’s Riley Thorn series. It was comical and amusing, the side characters are something else! The dialogue had me laughing out loud. I also enjoyed the romantic aspect and relationship between Riley and Nick. This gave me Stephanie Plum vibes, but had so many other elements, too. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, mystery, paranormal and psychic abilities, fun banter and spice, then I highly recommend! Thank you so much NetGalley, Sourcebook Bloom Books and the author for this eARC!

Rating: 4/5 Stars

I finally read my first Lucy Score book! I have known about this book for a while now, I know that this is the start to the Riley Thorn series. I decided to read the first and second as the third and fourth books will be releasing this year.

The Dead Guy Next Door was a fun one! It is told in a dual POV through Riley and Nick's POV. In this you will meet some super quirky but unbelievably charming characters and you will without a doubt be howling at some of the outrageous comments that are made. I truly enjoyed each of the characters' differences and what each brought to the story. The banter throughout this one is on point.

I was drawn to this one because it is more of a cozy mystery with romcom vibes. I love that Score mashed up these two genres throwing in multiple tropes within those genres such as paranormal elements - mediums and clairvoyancy to the grumpy/sunshine, instant love and even a little bit of miscommunication.
Paranormal elements - medium, clairvoyant. There is a lot going on in this one but its also super easy to follow and just such an easy read.

This is slow burn galore until the end where the pacing picks up and some suspense jumps in. It's also super long. I think I would have loved this one more had it been shorted to roughly 300 pages. I think there was some unnecessary fluff, but overall, I really enjoyed this story. I love where Score went with this one and i thought that it was a great read.

Pick this one up if you're looking for something light and easy to read, if your're looking for some romance and some mystery. I really enjoyed this and look forward to picking up the second book soon. The Dead Guy Next Door was originally published in 2020, but was recently rebranded and rereleased in March of this year. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Lucy Score and Sourcebooks for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
