Pub Date: Apr 2, 2024
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was thrilled to receive this book. I found this book to be highly suspenseful and a good read.
Here's a bit of the synopsis from the publisher:
And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?
But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:
Only one of them will return home alive.
I highly recommend this book if you have enjoyed McFadden's other books. 5 stars

Claire and her husband Noah have hit a low point in their marriage. She is having an affair and in the long run things are looking bleak for them as a couple. Noah doesn’t seem to be aware that his wife is sleeping with his best friend. They are planing a vacation at a hotel near the woods with two other couples. One person in each other couple is a best friend to Claire or Noah. And off they go.
The car breaks down and the six would be vacationers find themselves totally lost in the woods, with not enough food, lack of water, a faulty compass a map that has them walking in circles, and cell phones that go dead. Eerie sounds compound the well described creepy scene. And then, one by one, the group of friends is being picked off. But why? By whom or what?
Yes, there is some repetition and some discrepancies in detail. Yet, I became hooked on this fast moving plot, narrated by Clair and another person who remains anonymous until the end. There is no lack of action or horror as the story unfolds with a few twists and turns, some surprising, some not as much. It’s a good diversion and a very quick read. Four stars for an entertaining book that never aspired to be more than that. Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC in exchange for my review.

The story felt quite overloaded with unnecessary details and plotlines across its 270 pages.
It was a quick read, but unfortunately, it faded from memory just as swiftly.
The predictable and at times absurd twists didn't quite engage me. Honestly, I was relieved when I reached the end of the book.
While I usually enjoy the author's works, 'One by One' left me disappointed this time.
The rushed ending might be attributed to the limited page count, but it didn't really enhance the overall impression.
It's a pity, as there seemed to be more potential that could have been explored.
Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me the review copy!

Another great one by Freida. Was definitely a different vibe than her other books but still a very fast paced page turner. I'd love to see more thriller/murder mysteries from her in this style

So Freida McFadden is my latest auto buy author.Probably everybody's auto buy author.
This book was very fast paced and surprisingly very short.
I finished it one sitting like all the other books by her.
Her every story is different from the next.
You think you know what happened but you are always wrong.
Go read her books. You will thank me later.

Usually I find these books very predictable, and while this one wasn't amazing, I at least didn't guess the plot twist this time. However, it is hard to root for any of the characters because they're all terrible people and not even in a fun way. I will still pick up her books when I need a quick read.

This one was super fast-paced and twisty! I swear all of Freida’s books just hook you from the very beginning and keep you guessing until the very end. I thought I had this one figured out multiple times throughout but I was wrong each time!

The ending of this book was perfection. Everytime I thought I knew who anonymous was something happened and changed my mind. The plot twist was superb and never saw it playing out like it did! This was once again a fast paced read and a fantastic thriller!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
I usually can figure out the plot or the "who done it" before the book ends, or at least have a clue on who it might be, Freida McFadden has proved me wrong. She gets me every time. One by One is no exception, 3 couples set out on a trip. stained martial relationships. so 6 days away in a mountain retreat what could go wrong? everything They get stranded with no cell service and lost in the woods, this book is so fast paced I couldn't put it down I finished it in one day! I really had absolutely no idea it would turn out how it did!

One by One gets a solid 3.5 stars from me. The story follows a group of friends going on a vacation that get stranded in the woods and begin to get picked off one by one by a mysterious killer. This book has a fast pace that kept me engaged and wanting to know what was going to happen next. Like all Freida McFadden books this book has a surprising plot twist that was only slightly predictable if you have read a lot of Freida's books. I have read many of her books and always try to guess her wild twists.
As with all of her books, I would like to see more character development and stronger females, but she is an automatic read author for me.
If you are a thriller lover or a Freida fan, I definitely recommend this book. It was an engaging, dark and twisty read! Thank you to NetGalley and Poisioned Pen Press for this reviewer copy.

"One by One" by Freida McFadden is a novel surrounding the life and (failing) marriage of Claire and Noah. They are headed off on a trip with four of their friends for the week in a secluded cabin. Tensions are high because Claire and Noah aren't exactly getting along. Everyone seems to be hiding something....what could possibly go wrong?
This was one of McFadden's weaker plots for me. There were a lot of holes I just couldn't get around and try as I might, it just wasn't very good. Even sticking to the true Freida twist at the end, it just was okay. However, it wasn't completely awful. It was still a very easy read. It was just harder to stay engaged when it felt so slow.
It comes out April 2 if you haven't read it on KU already! Let me know what you think!

I binged this book in a day, I loved the setting of this and I suspected every single male the whole time, but also didn’t expect it to be who it was. I loved this thriller.

A quick, engrossing read that will leave you questioning how well you know your friends. A thriller, murder mystery, and drama rolled into one. The characters are well written and some of them a bit scary.

In my personal opinion this was my least favorite book Freida has wrote. It was still a really great book, but there wasn’t as many twists and turns as her other books.
I would most definitely still recommend, but from her others this is my least favorite.

Claire Matchett is ready to end her marriage to Noah, her college boyfriend. They’ve grown apart since the birth of their two children. Noah is quick to pick a fight and Claire…well, Claire is having an affair with Jack, her husband’s best friend. In fact, she has booked separate rooms on this trip to an isolated, luxurious woodland resort. She plans to share hers with Jack. They are joined by Jack’s wife Michelle and Claire’s best friend Lindsay and her new boyfriend Warner. The mood in the car is tense with frequent arguments about the rough roads they choose on the way to the hotel. Then their van breaks down and they decide to continue on foot. What happens next is why this thriller is titled One by One.
Freida McFadden has done it again! One by One builds suspense slowly, one step at a time. Suspicion falls on all the characters so once you think you’ve figured this twisted plot out, there’s another turn and you realize you were wrong. Claire and an anonymous observer share narration. The observer is obviously the killer but you won’t know who it is until the final pages. Enjoy! 5 stars.
Thank you to NatGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and Freida for this ARC.

Another revenge driven tale... three couples decide to go on a week long getaway. Each has secrets and one of them is going to get even. A wild ride that has you trying to guess who the killer is. The author is brilliant at setting up the story, what motivates the killer and ties up everything nicely at the conclusion.
Thanks Netgalley for the advanced reading copy in exchange for my opinion.

Another solid Frieda book where you think you know what is happening and then boom, you had it all wrong. I enjoyed the wilderness setting with this one. Great twists!

i love how fast paced freida mcfadden books are. it’s so easy and entertaining to read that once you started you’ll never put your book down.
one by one have the best and most satisfying ending!!! the plot twist is so insane. i’d rate it more than 5 stars if i could.

Once again Freida McFadden nailed it. I loved twists and as always the epilogue was perfect. Just when I thought I had it figured out, of course that wasn’t the case.

Freida McFadden is a go-to author for me. She is such a good writer and always has a good story to tell. In this book, three couples go on a car trip to a luxury inn for a week in the Colorado wilderness. What could go wrong? No spoilers. Recommended for a good, fast paced read, and recommend all of McFadden’s books!
