Thanks NetGalley for the book.

I have read quite a few books from Freida McFadden but this was one was not my favorite. It was a very quick read, it’s interesting and will keep you guessing until the end of the book. I just felt like it was all just a little unbelievable. The ending felt rushed to me.

I’m a little confused as this was given to me as an ARC from netgalley in exchange for an honest review…. But it was published years ago.

Aaaaaanyway. This one was interesting! I enjoy McFadden‘s books a lot, but the housemaid series is my favorite. When I started reading this, I was picking up Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None vibes heavily. The plot is similar, but it definitely isn’t the same. I really wondered if this was going to take a paranormal turn! I truthfully didn’t see the twist coming at all. Once we figured out who Anonymous was, I was surprised. All in all, I enjoyed this for a shorter story. 4⭐️

Thank you Netgalley, for the ARC.

I can say i only liked this book .An easy read. I felt there was some details that could of been explained more, such as the disappearences of certain characters. The ending felt rushed to me as well. . Not my favorite book by this author.

I've read a lot of Frieda McFadden books in the last couple days and I have to say this one is one of my favorites. It had me guessing the whole book. And every time I thought I got the ending figured out something would happen and I would be wrong! I really loved how it was so different compared to some of her other books. Overall a very fun fast read.

Thank you netgalley and poisoned pen press for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this one in the beginning. But unfortunately the way that everything resolved at the end seemed unbelievable.

Wowza, such a great story with twists that keep you guessing until the end.

When a group 6 friends, 3 couples, go to an out of the way inn, things turn from bad to worse when their car breaks down on the road to the inn. With limited food and water, they are wandering the woods using a poorly printed map and a compass, and seeing animal tracks and marks everywhere. With no cell phone signal, they can’t call for help, but must instead rely on each other. The story becomes tragic when Lindsay eats some wild berries and dies from the poison. But then other tragedies occur one by one, leaving you guessing on who is doing this. Is it someone in the group? Who can you trust?. Who is the killer? Is anyone safe? The story has lots of twists and keeps you guessing til the end.

“There will be six of us. Six adults. Stuffed into a six person minivan, like sardines.”
“Our reservation is for six days”
“Six days away from civilization”
“In revelation, 666 is the number of the devil. The sixth commandment is though shall not kill. Six is not a nice number.” anonymous

As the story unfolds, you find that all the relationships are not exactly what they appear. Claire and her husband Noah are having marital problems, and both have gotten to the point where they can’t stand to be in each other’s presence, and with this getaway, maybe they can strengthen their relationship and fix what’s broken. Except there is no way that’s going to happen when Claire is sleeping with his best friend, Jack who happens to be part of the group, with his lawyer wife, Michelle. On the plus side, Claire’s best friend Lindsay is on the trip, with her hot new doctor boyfriend. But the personalities in the group creates tension as Michelle acts like she’s better than everyone, and marital problems cause constant bickering and conflict.

The book is told from two points of view, one being Claire and the other being the mysterious anonymous person.

This was one of my first reads by Freida McFadden. I love the way she weaves twist after twist. You always believe that you have the plot figured out, and then bam!!!!, you realize not only are you wrong, but you weren’t even close. Freida keeps you hanging on to her every word, afraid that you will miss something big.
One By One keeps you guessing even after the last page.

One by one by Freida McFadden is the tale of a group of friends going on a little getaway trip but the problem is is this a trip of happiness or a trip that ends in utter disaster. Some of the people are struggling in their marriages and with hidden secrets and others are trying to have a good time or so we believe. This story is a great thriller that has some very common elements and twists but in the same token will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting answers and shocked by the end. I love Freida’s writing and to date she is one of my favorite thriller writers. I believe that this one is worth the read and will make you have questions and oh my god moments. Is it the best book by her or my favorite of her books no but it’s definitely on the list of ones I definitely recommend.

I have to stop reading Freida McFadden books, at least old ones that pop up on NetGalley masquerading as newly published. I love the Housemaid books, but everything else I've read by her ends up being a silly thriller with a juvenile writing style. That said, as ridiculous as this was, it was a super quick read that entertained me during an afternoon workout, so...could've been worse. If you are looking for a mindless thriller to keep you busy for a bit, this might fit the bill.

This book is another win by the amazing Freida McFadden. The main character, Claire, is a teacher in a lackluster marriage with two kids. She's embarking on a week-long vacation with her husband and two other couples, but they don't make it to their destination.
You will have to read it to see for yourself.

A modern twist on And Then There Were None, Freida McFadden has done it again. The author keeps us guessing until the very last page. A group of friends travels to an inn, but become lost in the woods. Murder and love gone wrong make for an interesting plot. This thriller is an excellent read!

6 friends are on there way to a mountain lodge for the week where they would be hiking, fishing and relaxing. On the way there, things start to go wrong and the group must find their way to the lodge with zero GPS or cell service and limited supplies.

There is just something about this author that makes me want to read all of her books, even when they are sometimes so over the top or ridiculous, they are always entertaining. This one didn’t have many likable characters but it kept me interested and the pace was good.

Overall while this was not my favorite Freida read, it was still an easy read and enjoyable. I thought I had it all figured out once again but in the end I was wrong, which is always nice to not figure out the twist!

Thank you netgalley and poisoned pen press for the ARC!

Freida does it again!! This is a dark, twisty tale of revenge and betrayal gone wrong. A group of friends find themselves stranded in the woods. Suddenly rhey realize they are being picked off one by one! Terrifying and completely unpredictable. The shocking twist at the end was a made for tv moment and everything tied together nicely. One of my favorite Freida's so far. Multiple pov with an unreliable narrator makes for a good time with this Freida thriller. Highly recommend.

Thank you Poisoned Pen Press & Netgalley for an ecopy of One by One by Freida McFadden! As with all of Freida's books, this one is easy to absolutely binge in one sitting.

From the getgo, you know something bad is going on, but you aren't sure what or why (or who is causing it). A group of friends has planned a trip at a luxurious hotel in the woods. But on their way, Claire's minivan breaks down. There's no cell reception and the group must make the trek to their lodging on foot. Quickly, they become hopelessly lost in the woods.

One by one, terrible things start happening to the group. It's clear that someone is determined to make sure they don't make it out alive. Easy to binge book that keeps you guessing, another enjoyable novel by McFadden.

Freida McFadden's "One by One" is like a wild ride through a haunted forest, full of twists and turns that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. But while the suspense is intense through all the book, the characters kinda fall short.

Regrettably, none of the six main characters in the tale manage to escape the confines of their stereotypical scheme. Their unlikeable attitudes and lack of redeeming qualities make it challenging to invest in their fates. You can't even root for anyone to make it out alive 'cause they're all irritating. And as each character succumbs to the mysterious threat lurking in the woods, I couldn't care if they survive.

Compared to McFadden's other works, like "The Teacher," where the characters felt more fleshed out, "One by One" left me wanting more.
But if you're all about the adrenaline rush and can overlook the so-so characters, this book is still worth a read.

One by One by Freida McFadden is another great book of hers that I struggled to put down to get stuff done that really needed my attention.

This is the story of Claire and her husband, who are embroiled in an unhappy life together. They decide to go on a vacation with their married friends, and Claire's best friend and her boyfriend. On the way to their destination their car breaks down and they are forced to walk through woods (who does that, it's a BAD idea, always!) to get to the place they are supposed to be staying. Of course, they get lost and members of their party start disappearing and bloody messes start appearing. Is it one of them? An animal? A stranger?

I just found out that this is a previously released book, but that didn't matter a bit. I was captivated with the horror that was happening to them and didn't figure it out until right before the "who" was revealed.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review. What an adventure in the woods with this one. Can honestly say half way through I won’t be going on anymore walks in the woods anytime soon!!!! As with all Frieda McFadden books brace yourself for a wild ride! Plot twist next level!!!

Fissures in a marriage.

Little cracks and volatile pressure points almost assure the breakdown of what was. Noah Matchett suffers from a purposeful disconnect from his wife Claire. Claire, on the other hand, sits on the rim of eventual hate. Everything that Noah does and says riles her. It's the beginning of the end.

The last thing that this couple needs is a vacation together with a group of friends in the wilds of Colorado. But admitting to the fact that this is a bad idea seems to be a bad idea in their minds. So they pack up and meet with this crew: Lindsay the infatuated hairdresser, her new boyfriend Warner the plastic surgeon, Jack the handsome contractor, and Michelle his cold and snarky lawyer wife.

As they near their destination, the once dependable van of Claire's breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Smart people eventually lose their practical sense. Of course, there's no cell service and the map they have is nothing but confusing. Instead of splitting up with some staying in the comfort and safety of the van, the whole pack takes to the wilderness. They're lost. No one thinks to climb a tree to check for the lodge in the distance or an alternate route or cabin nearby. But then, we wouldn't have this wild and wackadoo storyline, folks.

One by One is weirdly good. if you dismiss concerns with the believability factor that Freida McFadden often presents in her novels. You'll soon find yourself hoarse from yelling at these people if you don't. Just sit back with one eyebrow up and see what happens. One by One is meant to entertain.

One by One was originally released in July of 2020 (Pandemic Era). I wasn't aware of that as it will be re-released on 4/2/2024. It settled in at 3 Stars for me, but there's some twisty stuff happening in the end that raised it to 4 Stars. It's a must read for McFadden fans and an adventure for those new to her writing style. Note to self: Pack up plenty of snacks in every available zipper compartment on the next hike.
Ya never know.......

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Poisoned Pen Books (Sourcebooks) and to Freida McFadden for the opportunity.

In true Freida fashion, there are definitely a few WTF moments.

Claire and Noah are going on a trip with some of their college friends. With their marriage on the rocks, it shapes up to be a doozy of a trip before it even begins. But add in Lindsay and her boyfriend, Warner, whom none of them have met yet. Jack and Michelle, who are also married but Michelle complains about having a lot of work to do.

When Claire’s minivan breaks down before they make it to where they’re staying, they all end up stranded in the woods. Each has their own agenda.

Lots of twists and turns, and never a dull moment.

I’ve read all of this author’s book, and this was not one of her best.I found it to be tedious and redundant, populated with characters whom I disliked from the very beginning. The whole book took place over two days. Six people start off on a journey. Throw in a broken down van, a map, compass, no cell service and you have ,Everyone wandering aimlessly around the woods, and keep says, we are going in circles, but everyone keeps following along. The story was short on detail, save the three or four specifics that were repeated over and over——-Claire is unhappy, Claire loves her children, Michelle is a cold fish, Warner is handsome. The anonymous person is pretty easy to figure out also.
