It's a fun read though not one of my favorites from Freida McFadden simply because of how far out there the story is. I enjoyed the twist on the classic people go missing one by one plot and the ending is definitely not something anyone could guess. If you have read other books by Freida McFadden this one is a good quick read though I wouldn't start with this at her first book if you are new to this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in advance of publication.

Thanks to Freida McFadden, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this book before it’s released.
The story follows six friends heading off for the weekend to reconnect, relax and unwind from their busy lives. After their vehicle breaks down they’re left to walk the rest of the way to where they are staying - but no one seems any good at navigating. Something sinister is hiding within the woods and gradually members of the group disappear. Will anyone make it out alive and get to safety or are they all doomed?
McFadden is by far on of a very few authors so can surprise me with a twist in the storyline - a twist I didn’t see coming. Once I started this book, it was near impossible to put down until I found out who/what was in the woods and who would make it out alive.
A must read for 2024. McFadden is an author to keep track of - she’s amazing and I can’t wait to read more of her work.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for accepting my request to read One by One by Freida McFadden in exchange for an honest review.
This story is about 6 people that are going to spend a weekend at a secluded Inn in the woods. On the way there, tension is already a little high because of a newcomer, marital problems, and secrets that are being kept from close friends. To add to that, the minivan breaks down and they are forced to walk to their destination...throughout this journey through the woods, members of the group start to disappear one by one...
This is not my first Freida book and it most certainly will not be my last. She never disappoints me with the plot twists that come at the end. I have yet to be able to predict what the outcome will be and I love that about her writing. Additionally, I love the fast paced style of her writing and how her books are unputdownable. I will always recommend reading a book written by Freida and this will be no expception!

Freida McFadden cannot write a bad book. This may not have been my favorite Frieda read but it was still a high 4 stars. I really liked how relatable it was. I'm from the South & camping, hiking, cabins & infidelity are all aplenty in this hot, humid atmosphere. The characters were well written, I could picture Jack & even Penny, who wasn't often present. I'll be ready for the next read by this author! ENGROSSING THRILLER

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press & NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was so excited to get the chance to read one of Freida’s books I hadn’t read because she is the Queen of thrillers! This one did not disappoint, because I could not put it down and read it in two sittings. The desolate setting of the woods, and members of the group going missing one by one felt so eerie and creepy I had to stop reading it at night because it felt so real! lol
The ending was truly shocking as I did not see the twist coming at all. Freida always has twists coming out of left field at the end of her stories and this book was no exception. I only rated 4 out of 5 stars because I felt like the culprit was a bit far fetched of a story. But all in all, I really enjoyed this suspenseful thriller and think you will too, if you’re looking for a quick and fast paced read!
Six friends head out together in the minivan for a week long vacation, at an Inn in the woods. Tensions are already high in the car with a newcomer to the group, marriages in shambles, and friends keeping secrets. When their van breaks down in the middle of the woods they have no choice but to continue on foot to try and make it to the Inn. But what should be an easy walk to their destination turns into a nightmare when they are utterly lost and stuck in the woods with no cell reception, water, or food.
As they continue to trek towards what they hope is the Inn, tensions continue to rise until one by one people start disappearing. Who will be the last one standing? And was this all a chance accident? Or did someone orchestrate this entire plan to carry out revenge?

This is my 8th book from Freida (I'm seriously binge reading from this author) and I love that I'm always taken aback by the twist.
The first parts of the story describes how Claire hates her husband Noah. She describes how he doesn't do what she wants him to do and it makes me think that she will have a motive to kill her own husband. Not to mention that in the next parts, it turns out she's been cheating with his husband's best friend, Jack. More reason to actually get rid of her husband.
Well, there are 3 couples who are out on a week long trip in the middle of nowhere. They were driving until Claire's car broke down and then the journey begins. They all walk to find this inn which seems impossible to find. It was very curious since at this moment I thought it's very fishy if this inn even exists since they were all looking for it so hard but they still can't find it. One died, one went missing which they think is surely dead, another missing, until 3 are left.
It was actually confusing since Noah says something seems fishy with Jack because his compass is acting strange, then Jack tells Claire that Noah seems fishy, then another says somebody is fishy. It's definitely intriguing to me at this point.
The ending is okay I guess. I'm shock how things turned out especially Lindsay and what she did with Warner. Also how Noah saved Claire it's kinda okay only to me. Eeehhh I'm not sure but I did enjoy this read.
It was also well planned, especially on Lindsay's part when she put the magnet in Noah's clothes. This made me think how Claire must be freaking out about the reality of their relationship. Like I feel like it's a good revenge on Lindsay's point of view, I feel like it's interesting.
Anyway, this is a good read and I enjoyed it.

A week away for 3 couples doesn't go as planned when they get stranded in the woods on the way.
We get enough information about each character to really get a feel for them and easily distinguish who's who.
The story unravels through the POV of Claire and Anonymous, who I really felt for and was so eager to find out who they were. I had suspicions of who it was, but was always thrown off by others suspicious behaviour!
Once we find out who anonymous is, the twists still keep coming and your jaw keeps dropping, but it ties everything together nicely and leaves you wanting more.
A quick, short, bingeable read that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Great twists and turns. Darker story than some of Friedas other books. Good suspense story that leaves you thinking though.

"One by One" borrows the classic trope of friends going on vacation together with only one of them returning alive. Freida McFadden is good at building tension and dread for the reader as well as having great plot-twists. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. #OnebyOne #NetGalley

One by one, they will get what they deserve...
Claire Matchett needs this trip. It will be a break from work and raising children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubbing with friends at a luxurious hotel in the woods, disconnected from the pressures of real life. On a lonely dirt road Claire's mini van breaks down! They have no cell reception and no way to fix the van so they decide to walk! As some of the others say "its two miles down the road!" As they all trump through the forest its dark and difficult to navigate they all realize they're completely lost! As they get deeper into their journey some members of the group are struck down mysteriously! One by one until there's only a few of them left! They find a cabin and that's where the craziness starts! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action packed, murder, mystery, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Thank you, NetGalley and Poisoned Pens for this ARC.
Enjoyed this book from start to finish! Claire is going on a trip to a resort with her friends and her husband. She's not getting along with her husband anf the trip starts with them arguing. Not a great way to start the trip and it doesn't get better.
As always, Freida McFadden, ending is not expected and is always something I couldn't guess.
Great read for those who enjoy thrillers

Okay this was bonkers and I couldn’t put it down, I would have read it in one sitting if life didn’t get in the way. I seriously don’t know what Freida puts in her dang stories but I binge them every time. I swore I had this one figured out by the 35% mark and I was dead wrong. So wrong. So bonus points for that! The setting was eerie, the drama was delicious, and the plot twist was shocking. I didn’t love the ending or I would have rated this higher but I did enjoy the story overall!

Tense and nail biting! Three couples, five old friends, many secrets - cheating, betrayal, lies, and did I say secrets? One has a plan, a plan for the rest - off they go for that weekend getaway, but who will actually get away? And who or what is out there? A suspenseful winner!

This book had me glued to the book! Freida is one of my favorite authors! I absolutely loved this book. I had to know who was gonna be next and find out what happened and why. Thank you for the read.

I had already read this book but it was another winner-winner-chicken- dinner from the wonderful Freida McFadden. She can suck you in from the beginning and doesn't let go.

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for allowing me to read this early. One By One by Freida McFadden is a pyschological thriller with twists that you would never see coming. I felt like I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. I did not want to stop reading it.

Freida does it again and again. She knows how to pull readers in from the first page. I love everything about this book and about Freida McFadden!

3.5 ⭐
We’ve all had vacations turn into nightmares; things don’t go as planned, the kids act up, car/plane mishaps. BUT, I’ll bet none of our adventures compare to the one these three couples have planned in the French Alps.
With almost 7000 reviews and 113,000 ratings on Goodreads, you really don’t need my detailed response to this book, so it’s short and sweet.
I enjoyed following Claire and Noah, Lindsay and Warner, and Jack and Michelle as they get lost in the woods on their way to a remote inn. These tech entrepreneurs may be wired for success, but when it’s a life-or-death situation, their skillset is challenged. Will this team-building retreat be successful or will the ‘fun’ be extinguished before they even get started?!
😀great locked door setting
😀twisty; didn’t predict the ending
😀creepy ‘anonymous voice’ POV
😀great foreshadowing
☹️language
☹️infidelity, revenge and betrayal become too repetitive
Despite not being ‘wowed’ by this book, I’d still reach for another McFadden thriller!
I was gifted this copy by Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Freida is one of my favorite authors. I've read over ten of her books, and she is masterful at twists and turns. Her writing is more basic, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Her plots are easy to follow, and her books are easy to get lost in.
The book is told in the POVs of Claire and Anonymous as 6 friends share a ride for a week away at a hotel in the woods. When their car breaks down, they decide to hike to the hotel. But one by one they start disappearing.
Unfortunately in this book, none of the main 6 characters were likeable. They each fit into a stereotypical mold, and their attitudes were terrible. None of them had any redeeming qualities which made it hard to root for any of them to survive. It honestly didn't matter to me if they did or not. I only wanted Claire to make it out alive so she could go home to her two kids.
I liked the anonymous sections as it gave us some backstory on who the killer actually was. Several of these chapters gave more clues than others about their identity. Anonymous had a very crappy upbringing, but I don't think the events of the book would have transpired this way just because of their background.
3/5.

Freida McFadden’s stories are addictive. They suck you in from the get go. “One by One” is no exception. The prologue instantly had me hooked. I couldn’t stop reading. I *had* to know what was going to happen. The ending was not so outlandish that it was completely out of nowhere. It wasn’t exactly what I expected, but it wasn’t too far off. I loved following the twists and turns of the story, wondering who was going to die next. As the prologue states “At the end of this week, only one of us will make it home alive.”
Capturing readers with the plot is definitely McFadden’s strong suit. However, I felt very little connection to the characters. I didn’t care much about any of the characters who died. I felt apathetic about everyone involved. It was not my feelings of concern for the main characters that pushed me to read, it was the urge to discover what was happening. I have read one another McFadden book, “The Teacher” and I felt much the same.
If you’re interested in a quick, captivating read “One by One” by Freida McFadden may be the book for you!
