A middle of the road thriller novel, but it has a tropeset I like: toxic relationships, wilderness, and, well, the characters all get picked off one by one.

Wow! Just loved reading this one! I have read a couple of books by Freida and they are all varies yet extremely engrossing. This book is another page turner that kept my glued. An amazing premise, set of characters, red herrings and use of location to advantage. The style of narration is again brilliant like her other work.
I honestly didn't guess the ending and it went against my guesses. The book kept me guessing and is impossible to put down until the end. It also made me invest into the characters and why this was happening and the motivation. Especially loved the ending! Freida is my auto buy author and this book again proves why!
Thank you Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for this e-arc in exchange of my unbiased review.

Freida has done it again! Every book I read of hers I always think “oh I think I’ve got this one figured out” but, as per usual, I don’t. This book was a quick and easy read that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It had many twists and turns and an ending that surprised the heck out of me. Highly recommend this book

4ish stars
This book was tense, twisty, and dramatic. I didn’t expect the ending; in fact, it largely went a very different direction than what I was anticipating, which is always a win for me. I’ve really enjoyed a lot of books from this writer and appreciate that I can usually count on her for a quick, dramatic, satisfying thriller.

Wow! Absolutely devoured this read. I really loved the quick and snappy pace of the book along with the originality of the storyline. Also, a great plot twist at the end! Yet to find a Freida McFadden read I haven’t loved!

Another great one by Freida McFadden! Honestly, she can do no wrong. I will read every book she ever releases, and I know I’ll love them all.
Thank you, NetGalley, for a copy of One by One by Freida McFadden.

Claire has a marriage that's going downhill fast and she thinks maybe this trip will rekindle what they lost, or give her the strength to finally admit its over. She, her husband, and 4 friends head out to a hotel only one knows and of course on a lonely dirt road, Claire's minivan breaks down. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to walk the rest of the way to their remote accommodation. But the forest is dark and difficult to navigate and, hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.
As they venture deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously, one by one. Are they being hunted? And by what—or who? As Claire's dream vacation descends into a nightmare, something becomes clear: only one of them will return home alive.
Not a unique premise but one that has always proved to be entertaining. I can be very hard to please when it comes to mystery novels and I have been rough on some of this author;s choices before. Freida McFadden seems to have a golden pen. Whatever she writes becomes a hit and a fan favorite. This is my second try for her and it did go better than the first.
I personally didnt find the end to be that surprising or inventive but I will admit the trip was fun and I inhaled this in one night.
It was entertaining and compelling. Like eating a fresh bag of chips. You start and before you know it, they are all gone.
Not the best mystery I've ever read, not the worst. But I can see why McFadden is so popular. Kinda hard to go wrong with reading any of them as long as you know what to expect.
I recommend for that esy beach read where you don't want to get to committed.
Thanks to Poison Pen Press and @netgalley for the opportunity to read this eArc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

While I am a huge Freida fan, this book through me a bit off. I found it repetitive and redundant. Unfortunately, I felt there was lot of repetition which caused me to try to skip through blindly in search for new material. While I didn’t find what I usually love here, I’m sure I’ll find one from Freida next.

Frieda McFadden never disappoints, great easy with a wow twist. Could not put this read down and finished in one sitting.

One by One follows Claire who decides a break from work and her children is the perfect idea to relax and potentially repair her damaged marriage. Claire, her husband and two other couples embark on their journey for a week of hiking and relaxing until their minivan breaks down on the way to the Inn. There’s no cell reception so they decide the best way to make it to their hotel is trekking through the woods. During the journey, the group soon discover that something isn’t quite right when members of their group begin to be struck down one by one.
I will always recommend Freida McFadden to people who want to get into the Thriller genre. Her books are always fast-paced reads with twists that will keep you hooked. They are also always great for getting out of reading slumps.
What I loved about this book the most was the feeling of dread. You knew something was going to go wrong, you knew that someone disappearing or getting hurt was inevitable and you just had to wait for the next shoe to drop. It was so fun to read because you truly couldn’t know who to trust. After all, every person in the book had their own motives.
A fun read that was easy to get lost into in!
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Easy read. The characters were relatable and felt like people I’ve met. Kept me guessing until the end, I didn’t see it coming.
This was my first book by Freida, but won’t be my last.

The more I read Freida's book, the more I'm becoming a fan of hers! I like how I'm never able to guess who's the killer, and One by One was no exception to that.
The story is told mostly by Claire's pov, but part of the story is also told by Anonymous, and I wasn't able to guess who it was up until the last few pages of the book. In One by One, we follow Claire, who's going on a 1-week vacation in a remote hotel with her husband and 2 other couples. Claire's marriage is on the rocks and she was hoping that this week would help repair the damages. But a wrong turn and car that breaks down in the middle of the forest will change her life for the worst.
I know this book was first published in 2020, but if you haven't read it yet, I recommend you do now! You will not be disappointed.
All my thanks to NetGalley, Freida McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced reader’s copy of One by One.

𝙼𝚢 𝚃𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜:
Not my favorite book by Freida but if there’s one thing she’s good at it’s hooking you in and this one did just that
𝚁𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝚒𝚏 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎:
Suspenseful mysteries
Friend/ relationship drama
Quick and fun reads
An anonymous POV
Couples trip gone wrong
Lost in the woods
Unexpected(?) twists
Crazy plots (duh it’s Freida)
𝚃𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚜 𝙸 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎𝚍:
I love a good survival story so them having to rough it in the woods was alot of fun for me lol
𝚃𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚜 𝙸 𝚍𝚒𝚍𝚗’𝚝 𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚏𝚘𝚛:
While a lot happened in this one I feel like a lot also didn’t happen if that makes any sense haha
I wanted more from the ending

Yet another draw dropping psychological thriller by Freida McFadden. I was hooked from the first line. Just when I thought I knew who Anonymous was, BAM! Plot twist! Carve out some time for this one, you won’t be able to put it down.

As a long time Freida McFadden fan, I was excited to receive a copy of One by One from NetGalley! Three couples plan to go to a remote hotel in the woods for a vacation. When they find themselves unexpectedly stranded in the woods, things take a turn for the worse as people start to disappear one by one. This one is a quick read for sure, but I have to say is not my favorite Freida book. It had her traditional twists and she did catch me by surprise with the twist at the end, but I found much of this one to be a little unbelievable. That being said, I am not sorry that I took the time to read it.
Thank you to Net Galley, Poisoned Pen Press and the author for the copy of this book in exchange for my thoughts. Publication Date: July 13, 2020

One By One
By: Freida McFadden
About: A taut story of betrayal and survival from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden that will leave you wondering if there's any way out of the woods…
Quote: "Do you think while I'm doing laundry, I'm thinking to myself, 'Oh, here's Noah's UChicago shirt-better put that somewhere special, instead of the drawer where I put every other shirt of his I've ever washed in the history of doing laundry?"
Favorite character: Noah. I don’t like him at first, but by the end you see what kind of person he really is.
What I liked: the ending did have a twist I didn’t see coming, a couple actually. It was a quick read as well. I also live right by Castle Pines Colorado, and the book was based there.
What I didn’t like: The book was so very far fetched, I honestly just wanted to get through it since it was an easy read, definitely not my favorite Freida book.
As always, read triggers! And don’t forget to read what makes you happy! Just because a book isn’t for me, doesn’t mean it might not be for you.
Thank you Freida McFadden, NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for a copy.

Freida is unbelievable! She never lets me down and every book I read of hers always gets me! I often think I have it figured out and she reminds me, I clearly have no idea!

Definitely not my favourite FM book I’ve read. Got through it as it was very fast paced, making me want to read on and on to know what happens but I felt the ending was very quick, unresolved and quite underwhelming in my opinion. A shame as the book has potential for a great ending.

In true Freida fashion, this was a fast and easy read. There was little character and plot development, which I’ve honestly come to expect from her, so I didn’t really mind. The writing, however, was repetitive at times and the twist was as good as she could’ve done considering the way she set the plot up. Overall it was a good palette cleanser, but definitely not my favorite of hers.

This book was nail bitting interesting. I couldn't put the book down. It's thrilling, twisty, utterly addictive.
