A fast paced captivating read of the year so far🔥🔥 Six friends who leave to spent a week in a cabin find themselves in a forest out of nowhere and one by one everyone is getting murdered. The killer could be anyone.. either a stranger or one among themselves.

I finished this book in just two days. Easy to read and so immensely fast this book like a roller coaster ride. Loved it but I really wanted a bang ending. But nevertheless I really enjoyed this ride.

Thank you @poisonedpenpress and @netgalley for the wonderful book

Tense, Compelling..
When a group of couples break down en route to a relaxing break, hiking to their hotel doesn’t appear to be too much of an issue. It is not long, however, before the group become entirely lost in the woods - as they continue their journey someone or something begins picking them off… one by one. A deftly drawn suspense with a credible cast, an atmospheric sense of place and a propulsive plot with a continuous underlying vein of menace. Tense and compelling.

I guessed the plot twist really early in BUT the way this book was written had me second guessing almost the entire time. I like this one in the sense you think you have it pinned down then reevaluate almost every chapter.

The anonymous chapters are very well written. She gives nothing up in them until she is ready to.

One by One is the perfect “whodunit” thriller!
How well do you truly know your friends? Twisty and turning, three couples head out for a little reprieve from life, only to find themselves NOT where they thought they would be. And one by one they are dying.
I loved the anonymous narrator portions.

This was a great quick read. Expected nothing less from Queen McFadden!

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this re-release/arc in return for my honest review.

Do you love a book of "whodunnit?" Who is the true murderer? One by One by Freida McFadden may be a book that satisfies your love of a mystery.

I love Freida McFadden books, but this one didn't cut it for me. Six friends, six days in the forest, and someone is out to get them. I didn't have any connection with the characters, and I felt absolutely nothing when there was a murder. About halfway through, I just wanted the book to end to find out who the name of the murderer. There are random chapters about "anonymous," so you want to figure out who this person is and why they are important to the story. Most of the story is told from the viewpoint of Claire, who is a mother of two, and in an unhappy marriage.

That being said, there are so many people that loved this book, so don't let it stop you from reading it. I'm still excited to read other books by McFadden because they read quickly and usually have a lot of suspense.

I think so far every book that Freida McFadden has written and that I've read I've thoroughly enjoyed.

This one was so entertaining and quite honestly I would hate to be in that situation with my friends.

Another 5 ⭐️ book by Freida McFadden. A page turner from start to finish with an ended that you don’t see coming!

One by one, questions surround the six individuals on a camping trip. One by one, individuals begin to disappear. Fingers are pointed and theories start emerging. Who will remain alive at the end? A must read book.

This book tells the story of a friend group that decide to take a trip to escape the day to day life. What they didn't expect was for it to be REALLY different from day to day life.

I think this book was the most out of the box of Freida that i've read so far and I LOVED IT. I rated it a 4 stars but I'm still considering it.
I read it in less than 24 hours and I was hooked beggining to end and there was not one boring bit.

I guessed who the killer was but i had a lot of theories all through the book and this one was not the most obvious one.

This didn’t feel like a usual Freida McFadden book, it felt different to me from the start, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. It took me a little while to get into the story but once I was hooked, I had to keep reading to see what would happen next!

One by One was nerve-wracking and I kept finding myself trusting and then not trusting each character. In the end, I didn’t trust any of these people and I can say that I never want to go camping in a group, ever.

I still cannot put my finger on what makes it different from the author’s other books but it was a good read! I have yet to read a book by Freida that I didn’t like.

Here is the synopsis:

Claire Matchett needs this trip. It will be a break from work and raising children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubbing with friends at a luxurious hotel in the woods, disconnected from the pressures of real life.

Then, on a lonely dirt road, Claire’s minivan breaks down. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to walk the rest of the way to their remote accommodation. But the forest is dark and difficult to navigate and, hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.

As they venture deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously, one by one. Are they being hunted? And by what—or who? As Claire’s dream vacation descends into a nightmare, something becomes clear: only one of them will return home alive.

Out now!

I’ll be honest, while it’s a quick read, the characters felt one-dimensional, and parts of the story felt overly repetitive. The ending was a surprise, but I found it a bit silly. Furthermore, I still found myself enjoying the book overall. Freida McFadden has the talent for weaving a suspenseful tale, and even though this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me, I still had a good time reading it.

FREIDA MCFADDEN HAS DONE IT AGAIN. I will pick up anything Freida McFadden has written. This book is so easy to immediately get into and absolutely fly through. Your heart will be racing and you will be left questioning everyone and everything. The slow burning build up and unexpected plot twist is Freida’s signature and you can find it once again in One by One.

Freida McFadden is one of my absolute favourite authors and One by One does not disappoint.

I read this novel within 2 days, and that is really good for me.

We meet a group of friends who are going on a trip to get away from everything. We meet main character Claire, she is married to Noah and they have 2 kids, we also meet Lindsay and new partner Warner and Jack and Michelle.

They set off in Claire's people carrier car and we learn that Claire and Noah are having marriage difficulties, constantly getting at each other and that Noah, Jack, Lindsay and Claire go way back and all have a firm friendship.

Then everything happens so quick, the car breaks down, they decide to walk in the woods to the hotel only to find that the directions that they are following are rubbish and then someone or something is killing them all off "one by one".

I was addicted to this novel, very easy to read and lots of twists and turns that the reader will not see coming. The chapters are told mainly through Claire's perspective, but there is another narrative "Anonymous" who gives an insight into their background.

Very well and cleverly done, I loved it. Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved that this one had a different aspect w the anonymous character chapters, really made me question EVERYONE! I didn’t expect that twist at all tbh and I felt dumb not figuring it out. The ending was a bit lacking for me but overall it was a good read and I did enjoy the mystery. Thank you @netgalley for the arc.

One by One by Freida McFadden

This is my second book by McFadden and she is truly starting to grow on me. Do I like her characters? For the most part no. I’m not even a huge fan of part of the story, but what she does with the climax is where it gets me every time. I will definitely continue reading her books. This one was a quick read, where you truly don’t know who did what.

A group of friends get lost in the woods and they start dying of one by one one.
Solid premise and solid execution.
This was my first book by this author but it did know of them already.
The first half or so I was struggling with it. I just didn't like the characters and wasn't feeling it as much. But when it picked up couldn't put it down!
The chapters from the ''anonymous''pov felt like a nice break from the Clair chapters and it was fun to look for clues in them. I was able to guess the killer partly.
But I never knew where it was going fully

This book was just ok. The story was a little far fetched for me. I love Freida but I think this was not a favorite of hers. I know it’s just a book, but the getting lost in the woods and no one knowing how to get out, no food or drink and still surviving was just a bit much of imagination!

As a devoted fan of Frieda McFadden's previous work, I was excited to dive into this one. However, I must admit, my excitement turned to disappointment as I progressed through this one.

The book follows around Claire, who is in an unhappy marriage with Noah, as they go on a camping trip with their circle of friends. Yet, when their journey takes an unexpected turn, leaving them stranded with a dead card, tensions rise as members of the group mysteriously vanish.

While the plot held promise for a gripping thriller, I found myself grappling with a sense of repetition throughout the story. Claire kept complaining about her marriage and missing her children. It was really annoying and detracted from the overarching suspense. Additionally, the inclusion of chapters from the perspective of an anonymous character aimed to introduce an element of mystery, yet fell short of fully engaging me as a reader.

Also, the plot twists and revelation of the perpetrator felt somewhat predictable, despite the author's attempts to insert mystery through the anonymous character's backstory. It really just left me underwhelmed.

I am still a big fan of Frieda's talent of a catching you with a popcorn thriller, but this one lacked the grip I am used to with her other work. Regrettably, I can only give it one starr. Thank you NetGalley for providing me a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
