Three couples whom are friends embark on a relaxing vacation. On the way they are forced to leave their vehicle and walk the rest of the way.
Each person has their own secrets.
While walking to the inn they get lost. One by one they go missing.
Freida McFadden keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who is responsible for the missing people.

Claire, her husband Noah, and two other couples are taking a vacation together at an inn. However, on their way, Claire’s van breaks down and they are forced to walk to try to find help or the inn. The group gets turned around in the woods and One By One, members of the group get injured or worse.
I really like Freida McFadden’s books, just when you think you’ve figured it out she comes out of left field and completely surprises you.
My only “complaint” is that I didn’t particularly like the characters, even our main character Claire is a little “meh”. Still I gave it 4 stars!

Another fast paced thriller from the queen of psychological thrillers.
A group of friends, each with their own secrets, embark on a much needed vacation, that quickly goes wrong. After being stranded in the woods, it becomes clear that not everyone is who they say they are. As they fall, one by one, we're left to ponder who's to blame, and who will make it out alive. "One by One," a thriller by Freida McFadden, transports readers into the ominous depths of the woods where Claire Matchett and her friends seek a relaxing escape from the stresses of daily life. Their vacation turns perilous when their car breaks down, leaving them lost and vulnerable in an unforgiving wilderness. As they are mysteriously picked off one by one, the tension escalates, and the line between friend and foe blurs. While the characters lack depth and are somewhat stereotypical—ranging from the cold career woman to the charming contractor—the narrative's pace is well-managed, keeping the suspense high even as some plot points become predictable. Particularly engaging are the chapters from the perspective of "Anonymous," presumably the killer, which delve into the antagonist's psyche and motivations, adding layers to the otherwise straightforward plot. McFadden does a commendable job of exploring the frailties within personal relationships, maintaining a chilling atmosphere throughout. Despite its flaws, the book remains a compelling read for those fascinated by psychological thrillers and the dark turns of human nature.

McFadden delivers banger that kept me guessing until the very end. The slow start quickly gave way to a gripping narrative that had me hooked from start to finish. The use of an anonymous narrator added an intriguing layer of mystery, constantly challenging my assumptions with each turn of the page. The unexpected plot twist took me by surprise and added a refreshing twist to the story. Overall, the writing was top-notch, seamlessly tying together all the threads for a satisfying and enjoyable read.
Cannot wait to read more thrillers by her!

In true McFadden style, this book will hook you and make you stay up all night to finish.
6 friends head off on a trip, only to be picked off one by one.
This book was a rollercoaster of nerves for me.
It definitely had me sucked in and I couldn't put it down.
But once the twist was revealed, I was disappointed.
It was a loose ending that just seemed to be thrown in there.
Now the twist of the very last page, that I didn't expect.
2 stars for the story
3.5 stars for piquing my interest.

What. Wild ride this Novel is! Frieda never lets you down.
Clair and Noah's marriage is on the rocks. Things have not been good for some time. Claire has been having an affair with Noah's best friend Jack.
As the couple and a group of friends head out to a retreat to enjoy some time away from everything the car dies and they get lost trekking in the woods. The map they're using keeps getting them further and further in to the woods. Will they ever get out? Will they ever find the lodge?
The tension is high as the friend group runs around in the woods without food and water. Will they ever make it to civilization? Will they survive?
Thank you to NetGalley and poison pen press for this smashing thriller!

Not amazing, not terrible. I figured out who the killer was fairly quickly, right after the first death.
I didn’t particularly care for any of the characters. They weren’t likable and we didn’t get to know much about them beyond the superficial. It was almost like they were outlines of characters without any depth to them - the cold and ambitious career woman, the attractive plastic surgeon focused on looks and success, the rugged and charming contractor, the hot best friend, the mean and miserable husband. The main character, Claire, was probably the least likable of the bunch and it was a bit hard living in her head throughout the story. Her thoughts were all over the place and some of her reasoning and decisions made no sense. I also found that a lot of the actions/reactions for the whole group were unrealistic for six educated professional adults in their 30s/40s.
On a more positive note, the pace of the book worked well. The story moved quickly and, even though I was pretty sure I had it figured out, it kept me engaged and looking forward to what was going to happen next. The story was told from the perspective of two different characters. One was Claire and the other was someone we just know as Anonymous, who we assume is the killer. I enjoyed the Anonymous chapters very much. They helped flesh out that character so we got to learn a lot about them and what made them tick. These chapters were really the highlight of the story.
This was my first Freida McFadden book. It was an okay read for me but I did enjoy it and it kept me engaged until the end. I’ve heard great things about this author so I will definitely be giving some of her other books a try.
Thanks NetGally and Poisoned Pen Press for an advanced copy of the republication.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.
One by One by Frieda McFadden is a psychological thriller in which 6 friends head off on a trip and nothing goes as planned. One by one they die or disappear and the remaining are questioning who they can trust.
Like all Frieda's books you suspect EVERYONE at some point. I like the setting for this book, in the wilderness with survival themes as well as the fact that their friends are disappearing. I really enjoyed the characters in this book and specifically hated one in particular!
I enjoy all of Frieda's books and can't wait to read more!

Really really really good, but honestly ikinda predicted what was going on.. perhaps i finally am starting to understand freida's brilliant mind?
As always, really good read, very easy to get into, def recommend!
(ps thanks for the ARC!)

⛰️ Three couples going on a vacation together at a swanky hotel for 6 days of hiking and hot tubbing. Innocent enough…what could possibly go wrong? How about car troubles, getting lost, no food or water, oh - and a killer that is picking them off one-by-one?
💀 This book has all the makings of a cheesy horror flick, with surface level characters and cliché “just leave the dead body, we have to keep moving!” suspense. I was so disappointed in the characters choices and behavior. I really wanted them to be better humans, but they let me down. Even the “anonymous” story, OMG that was horrifying - and I was glued! What a horrible situation 😱 but I couldn’t look away.
🌪️ In true Freida fashion, it has a couple of twists, one that really shocked me while listening via audio (sneaky!! I like it!).
⌛️Although this has been my least favorite of her work so far, it’s still worth the read/listen if you are looking for an easy-to-follow suspenseful binge in less than a day.
Thanks to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for providing me with a complimentary copy to review!

I don’t know what this woman puts in her books to make them so addictive, but I find myself constantly needing more! I couldn’t put this book down and I loved the twist at the end. I would honestly read anything Freida McFadden writes!

I couldn’t put this book down. It’s he first book I read from this author. I read this in one sitting. I was drawn in and entertained from the get go. I enjoyed this thrilling and griping novel. There were a lot of the twists that kept me guessing.

I appreciate Freida's easy narrative. Her stores are easy to follow and easy to read. Character development was rough. I didn't have much of a reason to like the characters and had a hard time believing these six people actually would willingly go on a trip together. Overall, the book read easily and was interesting, however the plot and it's twists fell flat.

“One by One” by Freida McFadden wasn’t my favorite book by this author. I felt this book had a slow build to story. As I continued to read, I did find myself having a hard time putting down the book. I wanted to know how the book ended. The end had a huge twist. If someone is looking for a quick and easy read this may be a good fit.

One by one, they will get what they deserve...
A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.
She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven.
Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.
Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.
And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?
But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:
Only one of them will return home alive

First off... I was super hyped I got this book as an ARC! Freida is one of my top 5 authors! I have never rated any of her books below a 4 star. And this book is no different! Absolutely loved it. However it did feel a little different than her other novels. It was fast pace and there wasn't always a whole lot of action at once but when it happened it happened quickly and intently. Of course classic Freida... huge twist that the end did not see it coming. But I really recommend this book I loved it!

Thank you to NetGalley, Freida McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Something about McFaddens writing is just so addicting and so so easy to read. I binge read this entire novel and I loved the concept. The ending was perfect!

This was a decent book. The story started out slow but sure didn’t disappoint. I love the length of the chapters and pages of the book. You are able to remember each character in the book with ease.

Freida never disappoints with her twists does she? I was guessing the whole way through about the anonymous person… boy was I wrong! My suspicions kept changing as they always do with Freida. Well all except one … I figured that one out.
