Another home run for Freida. I love the story-telling abilities Mrs. McFadden has. The writing is so easy to follow, and digest. I read this book in one day, and the Locked Door is sitting on my shelf to devour next.
One by one is a creepy, lost in the wilderness adventure that will keep you guessing—incorrectly at that. The infamous Freida twist will take you by surprise, and leave you reaching for another one of her novels to lose yourself in.

A quiet trip to a secluded inn with three couples turns into a trip that will soon not be forgotten.

Claire hates her husband; yet here she is riding passenger in her mini van on a four hour drive to a romantic inn. Will this trip save her marriage? Or will it be the end of it?

Likes:
* twisty thriller where anyone could be the “killer”
* easy to read
* great character development
* kept me guessing until the end

Dislikes:
* I found one character to be unnecessarily dumb
* the urgency of water and food after only a couple of hours was ridiculous
* no cliffhanger, which I’ve come accustomed to with a Freida McFadden book

All in all another great read. Thank you to @NetGalley and Freida for an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

I always love Freida McFadden books! I read this one in an afternoon. Good mystery about friends going on a trip together and disappearing or “dying” one by one. I thought I knew who was responsible but was totally surprised in the end. Excellent thriller! Thanks to NetGalley for the copy!

I love Freida McFadden and immediately requested an ARC of One by One. And let me just say, it did NOT disappoint. I loved the setting, loved the characters, and loved the plot. I truly could not put it down. Do NOT sleep on this book!

This was a nice, quick read. I was pulled in by the drama right away and it just kept coming. I enjoyed how the characters were knocked off one by one. I was constantly suspicious - trying to guess who would be next and who the culprit was. And the twist ending?! I saw a lot of possibilities but I did not see that one coming.

Thank you NetGalley, Freida McFadden & Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC.

I have loved every book that I’ve read by Frieda McFadden, and One by One is no exception!

Whenever I read thrillers, I like to put my detective cap on and try to figure out the mystery. Frieda is so good at making you think that you know what is going to happen. When reading her books, I ALWAYS think that I know how the story is going to end and I’m ALWAYS 100% wrong.

One by One follows Claire, a married mother of 2, her Husband Noah, and two other couples as they plan to go on a weeklong vacation. Claire’s minivan breaks down before they’re able to get to the inn, and of course, no one has cell service. They decide to walk to try to find where they’re supposed to be staying, but one by one, someone or something is causing them to disappear.

I couldn’t put this book down and read it in 1 day. The twist at the end had me shook. I didn’t see it coming at all.

This book was originally published in 2020, but the paperback was just released on April 2nd, 2024.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with the eARC of this book!

How many times have we really read books with the main character that goes on a trip or is lost in the middle of nowhere and addresses the bladder problem?

So many books with female MCs that run, fight, survive, but the reader is always in the dark cause apparently none of these characters pee, poop or even get their period, ESPECIALLY DURING DYSTOPIAN TIMES.

Kudos to Frieda McFadden for not mentioning once but multiple times how our protagonist Claire constantly has peeing and having to eat food on her mind, cause RELATABLE! Everywhere I go, I always think about where I will pee. 😂

One by One was a very refreshing read unlike no other, took me back to the books I read in school revolving around getting lost and surviving an unknown danger.

I call this refreshing because it’s a different take from the generic thriller plot, it’s fast paced, keeps you guessing but to tell the truth, I couldn’t guess this one, because the other pov in this book is written in a very specific way to distract us.

It’s the kind of plot that would generally involve teenagers, but this was realistic because it was a bunch of married/almost married adults.

One by One is about a group of six friends going on a trip, and everything that could go wrong, does there. Told in the POV of Claire, our relatable MC and another Anonymous POV, YOU CAN NEVER GUESS WHO THIS PERSON IS.

OVERALL RATING: 4.6/5

I keep coming back to McFadden's books one after the other and this book encompasses why. They're enjoyable to read, fast-paced, and the kinds of stories you want to keep picking up or finish in one sitting to find out what happens next. One by One is no exception with an interesting cast of characters and a plot that keeps you guessing. I thought I had it all sorted out only to be surprised at the big twist...and then caught off guard again with a final twist! McFadden has already found a huge audience with her Housemaid books, but she is continuing to write new novels at least a couple times a year which, to me, are even more intriguing.

Thank you to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC of this book in exchance for my honest review.
If you’re looking for a quick, engrossing and edge of your seat book, Frieda McFadden never disappoints.
Claire cannot contain her excitement as she heads off on a weeklong vacation at a resort with her husband Noah and two other couples. Things are beyond tense between Claire and Noah. Possibly marriage ending tense. As Claire’s minivan breaks down in the middle of the woods on their way to the inn, and with no phone reception, the three couples decide to walk the rest of the way. But trouble is just beginning.
This book is a total page turner. Six adults stuck together in the middle of nowhere, secrets, pent up feelings, classic Frieda McFadden. Loved it!

Such an awesome thriller! There were so many twists and turns, and it kept my attention the whole time. Definitely pick this one up!

This book had some good suspense and excitement, but not the usual psychological thriller I've come to know from Freida. It definitely spooked me at times, and had the one classic twist no one saw coming. Overall I enjoyed it, but it wasn't my favorite of hers.

One by One 4.7 stars

In this story we start out with a marriage that is falling apart but is being held together for the children. But a trip with friends is happening and the main character Claire has a feeling that after the trip is over, her marriage with her husband Noah will surely end.

But as they travel to the hotel, things keep going wrong, first their car breaks down, then the map and campass the group has seem to be leading them in circles, and lastly people in their group keep disappearing. There is blood but no body and they keep finding large claw marks on the trees but don't know what animal they could belong to.

At times I really felt for Claire and how a marriage and romance that started out great was going down hill. The interactions with her and her husband would sometimes have my jaw on the floor and as people started to disappear, seeing how their relationship changed held my interest. I really love stories that revolve around difficult situations as I'm always curious to see how people may change.

I partially had things figured out but then the plot twist at the end completely surprised me. And just when I thought everything was over, the last two pages again brought another surprise.

Thank you NetGalley for sending me the ARC for the book.

Claire Matchett is having trouble with her marriage. And she thinks a week away in a suburban resort with her husband and two other friends might save it. Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought. Hours later, they are hopelessly lost. And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one.

Enthralling, captivating, and unexpecting are all words that can be used to describe 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘖𝘯𝘦. Intense with drama, I could feel myself suffocating as well as though I'm lost in the woods with the characters.

My eyes were glued to the pages the whole time as always, and although I haven't loved all her books, they all have been addictive that'll get you hooked from the first page. This one was no different. This definitely ranks better than 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳.

This was an easy read and the plot twists did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this book for any psychological thriller fans.

Thank you NetGalley @netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press @poisonedpenpress , an imprint of Sourcebooks, Inc. for this ebook. 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘖𝘯𝘦 is published on April 2nd, 2024 is available at wherever books are sold.

This book was an adventure! From the start you are sucked into the action. All of the characters seemed guilty at some point. I had zero clue who could be trusted. The ending was super intense and left my jaw on the floor.

I loved this book as always this author has your hooked from the start! So many ways the story could have progressed…twists and turns but a superb ending! Read in a matter of days! Love love love ❤️

Yes, yes, yes! I read this in two days because I just couldn’t get enough. In true Freida fashion, there were so many twists and turns. At one point, I thought I mayyybe had it figured out, but I was wrong! There are so many different ways this story could have gone, and I honestly had thought through ways I could be convinced each character was the killer, but the ending was better than any of the scenarios I had thought of. I also really liked the tiny twist in the epilogue. It keeps the suspense going a little bit, though the book ended.

Three couples head off to a secluded inn for a nice relaxing week away from their hectic lives. In the way to the inn, things go awry. The van dies in the middle of nowhere, the map of the trip to get to the inn no longer makes any sense, and the dang compass doesn’t seem to be pointing north like it should. Now they are all hiking through the woods and it seems like they’re just going in circles. One by one they start disappearing or are found dead. Are they being hunted? Will anyone survive?

I received an ARC of One by One from NetGalley and wrote this review voluntarily.

I don’t understand how this author always leaves my jaw on the floor. I have to say the ending twist wasn’t the perfect answer just cause I keep wondering if it wasn’t perfectly convenient.
Always a messed up twist and I did enjoy it.
